Staying hydrated all summer in this crazy heat and humidity is not always easy. One can only drink so much water before you feel like there is a fishbowl in your stomach. Fueling up with fruits and veggies that are high in water content can help you meet your goals without feeling overly bloated. I am sharing a few of my favorite ways to stay hydrated.
The Best fruits and veggies to keep you hydrated
Cucumbers
These crunchy veggies are low in calories and high in vitamin C and potassium. They are over 95% water. Delicious on their own, in salads or dipped in hummus.
Watermelon
It’s not summer without watermelon. Perfect when chilled or grilled! Known for lowering blood pressure and being high in magnesium and potassium it’s the perfect post workout refuel. Also delicious in salads with cheese.
Apples
An apple a day…. Full of fiber and long known for their health benefits. I love mine with dipped in a nice heap of peanut butter. Hydrating and delicious.
Carrots
Cut up a big bunch to have in your fridge for fast and easy snacking. Full of antioxidants, fiber and water they are a satisfying snack.
Tomatoes
Probably one of my all time favorite fruits. Yes they are a fruit! I can’t get enough of the juicy, sweet summer tomatoes. Easily add them to salads or sauces or just eat them plain. Better yet, roast them with a little garlic and olive oil for a fantastic bruschetta topping. I am now totally craving a zesty Gazpacho this weekend.
What are your favorite fruits and veggies that keep you hydrated all summer? What creative ways do you enjoy them?
Wendy says
I just love watermelon!!! That is one of my favorite fruits. This is such a great time of year with the availability of all the fruits and veggies. You can’t go wrong!
Deborah Brooks says
All the fruit is just so juicy and fresh-yum

There’s nothing better than a big bowl of cold watermelon in the summer! Whenever I cut one, I swear more ends up in my stomach than in the bowl haha.
Deborah Brooks says
Right there with you!
Debbie says
This is great! I know better but I have been having a tough time staying hydrated. And I get headaches when I’m dehydrated so you’d think I’d be super motivated. I need to have more fruit on hand because if it’s in my fridge I will eat it!
Deborah Brooks says
I have gotten a few headaches the last few weeks as well. I am drinking a lot but I guess not enough
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I have been eating a lot of cucumbers this summer. I like the baby ones. I think I almost ate a whole watermelon the other day. Well its like 95% water right so it’s ok….haha.

Yep definitely ok by me!

Megan @ Meg Go Run says
All year long I eat a lot of tomatoes, bananas, and sweet potatoes. I guess tomatoes are the only ones that help hydration!
In the summer, I eat the same things but include lots of zuke and yellow squash! I planted so much this year and can’t wait until they’re ready to pick! I see pictures of friends that have huge zukes already but I have nothing!
Deborah Brooks says
All of the squash is so good right now too!
Lesley says
Peaches too! The Palisade peaches in Colorado are just starting to hit their season. I can’t wait!
