April 14, 2014 What a Fun Idea! I was so excited to be invited the the 2nd annual Revolve DC Blogger Ride! I have been to Revolve DC a couple of times before and really enjoyed their ride. This seemed like a great opportunity to meet some other DC Bloggers that I chit chat with on twitter and have an amazing workout at the same time. Described on their website http://www.revolvefitness.com/ The Extended Body Ride: Cardio...Strength...Flexibility...Everything you need in one … [Read more...]
Can you be overweight and fit?
I caught a segment on ABC News Wednesday night that really got me thinking about this question: "Can you be overweight and fit?" This story quotes Dr. Carl Lavie- A New Orleans, Cardiologist, "it’s much more important to be fit than it is to be thin if you’re trying to improve long-term health". By ABC News Apr 9, 2014 7:19pm (Photo Credit: ABC News) Roger Juneau, 61, had a heart attack 20 years ago and … [Read more...]

Rent The Runway-If only Cinderella had known about this…
Ok so We've all been there-You have an event to go to and you are standing in your closet hating everything that you see and wondering why you ever bought half of it. Sound familiar? Like many women, I have trouble finding and fitting into dresses. I tend to wear drastically different sizes on the top and bottom. This makes for a challenge when searching for dresses. I usually require alterations. I've been wanting to try Rent The Runway for a while now and had been stalking their website … [Read more...]
What happens in Vegas…A weekend at Canyon Ranch @ The Venetian Las Vegas
My husband was heading to Las Vegas for a big political conference so of course I tagged along to get in on the fun. I spent my days checking out all of the classes and a few spa services at Canyon Ranch @ The Venetian. It was a tough job but somebody needed to do it. Here's a recap of my experiences. Woke up early Thursday morning (thank you jet lag) so I was ready to maximize my spa time. The Canyon Ranch Spa is hidden away inside the Venetian Hotel straddling both the Palazzo … [Read more...]
My new found love of Hot yoga & Is there any benefit to it anyway?
Over the years, I've tried to like yoga-I've tried really hard. I wanted to like it. I really did. I thought it would be a great compliment to running. I couldn't get into the visualization and all of the "Kumbaya". A few years back, an instructor talked about taking all of your problems and putting them into a box and leaving that box at the door. For real?? Sorry sweetheart who's got a box that big? Well you get the drift-I wasn't finding what I was looking for and what I was finding didn't … [Read more...]

Reston 10 Miler-My view from the Finish Line
I was looking forward to this race today as I have never done it and I heard it was great. I registered back in December and was planning on using it as a training run for upcoming half marathons. I’m in week 5 of no running due to the stress fracture so there was no way this was happening for me. Given that a bunch of my MRTT friends were running the race, I decided to volunteer instead so I could be with them in spirit and cheer them on as they finished. No matter how prepared I am, the … [Read more...]
Running Rehab-Getting my Fix…sort of
“Hi my name is Deborah and it has been 14 days since my last run”… Walking into PT at Bodies in Motion in Falls Church, Va I was very down and not particularly thrilled about being there. I wanted to be outside with my friends-running. I met my PT, Larry, a seasoned veteran of the PT world. He assured me that I would be back on the roads in a few weeks. He stressed that fact that being in such good shape when you get hurt really helps to speed up the process. Well, thanks for the compliment … [Read more...]
Health(ier) Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken free strips (Vegetarian)
I am always on the search for ways to make traditional menu items healthier and also vegetarian. With so many soy based products on the market now, this is easier than ever. This Caesar salad recipe has been in my family for years and it really cuts out some of the fat and calories that you normally find in traditional recipes. You will need: 1 tin of anchovies 3 garlic cloves ½ cup olive oil 2 egg whites juice of ½ lemon 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce Pepper Parmagiano … [Read more...]
Feeling sorry for myself
I pretty much spent the last 3 or 4 days feeling sorry for myself and repeating how this just wasn’t fair as I had been working so hard all winter. I then started to put it all in perspective and realized that in the big picture this really wasn’t so bad. It was only temporary. All runners get injuries and I will bounce back. I then began to freak about how I would maintain my fitness if I couldn’t run for 4-6 weeks. So the first week I jumped right back into spinning classes. I obsessively … [Read more...]
