I am all about celebrating the strong, successful and amazing women in my life every week. This Sunday, March 8th is International Women’s Day. Seems like the perfect opportunity to celebrate with my favorite women. This post is sponsored by adidas however, all opinions and ideas are my own.
Celebrating International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a “global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women”. I love that women all over the globe will be honoring each other on the same day. How will you celebrate International Women’s day?
5 Ways to Celebrate International Women’s Day
Get outside and play
Assemble some of your besties and get outside and play. Embrace your inner child and enjoy having fun on a playground or basketball court. Step away from your computer and enjoy laughing and playing together.
Go for a run or walk
Group runs and walks are my favorite way to catch up with friends. We have planned a big group run followed by breakfast.
Coffee Dates and treats
Honor moms, grandmas or teachers by meeting for a coffee date. Surprise a special someone with some homemade treats.
Send a handwritten note
The beauty of a handwritten note is always appreciated. Consider sending one to those women near and far that you admire.
Inspire the next generation
I treasure the time I volunteer mentoring my Girls On The Run team. I believe I am inspiring the next generation of strong women by building their self esteem. We use fitness drills to increase their confidence and interpersonal skills.
Adidas has long been a supporter of female athletes and the everyday woman. Their She Breaks Barriers campaign “aims to celebrate all women- those that inspire, empower, and break barriers”. See how these women including World Record track and field holder Keni Harrison break barriers and records. Take a quick look:

Catrina says
I love doing all of these 5 things, especially the “go for a run or walk”! Many things are simple and easy to do together but sometimes we get caught up in daily life. Love that photo of you in the net at the playground!
Deborah Brooks says
We can easily get caught up in life and forget to take the time to just relax and have fun w our girl friends
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
These are great ways to celebrate! I love the idea of a handwritten note. Those can be so special especially these days when everything is written in texts or E-mails!

You do so much to support women, between being an MRTT chapter leader and GOTR, and so much more! I am inspired by women like you who do so much to lift others up.

My Grandma makes us cards for holidays so I should make one to send to her as just a hello note. Thanks for the idea!

Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I had no idea that it was Sunday, but there’s is a women’s expo here and I have plans to go with a friend. Except I’m feeling kind of meh right now so hopefully I’ll be feeling better by Sunday!
Deborah Brooks says
I really hope you feel better by then!
Denise @ runheartfit says
I’ve been trying to connect with my girlfriends more frequently (I tend to be a loner even though I love being with my girlfriends. Does that make sense?) since a good friend was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer.
I didn’t know about International Women’s Day, but what a great reason to get together. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it does make sense and I am sure your friend would appreciate it too. Thanks for stopping in and sharing

Having a good girl squad is everything! I consider myself so lucky to know so many amazing women that support me in accomplishing my goals.

It is also fantastic to cheer your friends on virtually and receive them too!

Deborah Brooks says

Debbie says
I love this Adidas campaign and how it helps girls and young women break barriers in sports. It’s so important and there are still too many barriers that need to be broken! Great ideas!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Deb and thanks for being one of the inspiring women I have in my life
Abby Langer says
Girl power! It’s so amazing to have a squad of strong (inside and out) women by your side, isn’t it! xx
Deborah Brooks says
It sure is!
Smitha Barki says
<3 <3 <3 I miss my squad … Ever since I've been swamped with mom duties, I've missed hanging out and running with them.
Deborah Brooks says
Hope you are able to find time to reconnect w yours as your kids get older. It is much more challenging when you have younger kids
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
I’ve always been so impressed by your group of friends!! You are lucky! Love those Adidas outfits and how they are celebrating women.

Deborah Brooks says
Yes it sure is!

I’ll be spending it watching my daughters play hockey – so proud of them for playing a sport that has been traditionally a men’s sport. Where I live there’s more and more girls hockey teams and it’s amazing to see!
Deborah Brooks says
That is pretty fantastic to see and a great way to spend the day
The Accidental Marathoner says
I’m so envious of you and your huge group of lady friends! I have yet to find a female run squad. The best I can do is my 71 year old male neighbor and sadly, I can barely keep up with him! I love all the Adidas gear. I’ll have to check them out – I haven’t bought anything in a long time.
Deborah Brooks says
You are definitely part of my virtual tribe! I am so very lucky to have such a large group of like minded women in my community
Elaine D says
Grateful we honor the women who came before us to pave the path for where we are today! I will be attending a Women’s Breakfast tomorrow at my church which will be one way to celebrate International Women’s Day. I’ve always wanted to be a mentor for Girls on the Run but haven’t made it a priority yet – hoping in the next few years where both of my kids can join.
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds like a great way to celebrate. I hope your kids and you are able to participate in GOTR some day it’s a fabulous program
Farrah says
These are all great ways to spend the day! I like the one on going for a walk and I love the idea of a handwritten note! I used to write letters/notes so much more often–kinda feel like I should take it up again!
Deborah Brooks says
I like to write hand written notes too I think they are extra special
