It’s the most “Runderful” time of the year. Who else is invigorated by the cooler temps? Personally, I can’t get enough of fall and winter running. It’s all about choosing the right gear for the elements. A quality running hat, headband or face cover can make all the difference on a winter run. I am sharing a few of my favorite winter running hats guaranteed to keep you warm and happy while you pile on the winter miles. This post contains affiliate links.
Winter Running Hats & Headbands Guaranteed to Keep You Warm
Trailheads Trailblazer Ponytail cap
“Add to cart”! A perennial favorite for it’s fleece ear and neck coverings. Reflecitve stitching and the popular ponytail access make this baseball cap style hat a top pick. The curved bill protects your face from the elements. ($32)
Athleta Cold Weather Reflective Baseball Cap
Fleece lined interior brings warmth to winter runs and high visibility for those who run in the wee hours. ($38)

Prefer a headband to cover your ears? These SmartWool reversible merino wool headbands offer great coverage and comfort on a winter run.
This RUN beanie was one of my most worn accessories last winter. Use this link for 10% off of it or anything on the Sarah Marie Designs site. ($32)
Don’t be surprised if you see me and my run squad sporting these Run For It All Neckwarmers soon. I think they are going to be a staple for their warmth and their face covering. Also seen in my holiday guide for runners.
And if you prefer to go full on ninja this winter, I have been eyeing this gem since last year. The Athleta Flurry Balaclava is just what you need. Full face and neck coverage.
What are some of your winter running must haves? Warmest accessory?

I love the Ninja-look of the Athleta Flurry Balaclava!
I also saw that the sleeves are extra long.
That, together with the hand warmers that Wendy mentioned, would be the perfect winter outfit for me.

I caved in and ordered one stay tuned for ninja running in January! I have no self control 🙂 with my own lists

I have a trailheads hat that is pretty warm and I like that there is a hole for my ponytails! If I can keep my neck and head warm on a run I find that it can help so much, especially when it’s windy out.
Deborah Brooks says
Great qualities and I like the look of the baseball cap one
Wendy says
I love my Smartwool headband! I also discovered that I can wear my Aftershokz underneath it and that is a WIN!
Deborah Brooks says
OH good to know! I don’t wear headphones that much anymore while running. The headbands are the best
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m a huge fan of fleece headbands, but have developed a small obsession with pom hats in recent years. I need to check out the SmartWool headband; after all, I love their socks!,
Deborah Brooks says
The headbands are great and reversible which is nice, I also love the pom hats

My favorite winter running headband is a Lulu Lemon one that I got for Christmas years back. It’s so thin but comfortable and keeps my ears warm. Love all of the creative hats they are making now for ponytails though
Deborah Brooks says
yes headbands and hats have come a long way!
Darlene S Cardillo says
I hate headbands but I have lots of beanies. I prefer the ones with a cuff. Gloves of course but I lose them so use the $1 and sometimes even double up.
I add compression sleeves for warmth on my legs.
Smart wool socks.
A buff.
I’m good.
Thanks for the tips!

Some interesting ones in there, Deborah!
There is nothing guaranteed to keep us warm up here, LOL, but the right gear can definitely make a difference! I actually have a baseball hat with attached neck gaiter that I bought forever ago. The hat is kind of a combo of a baseball hat (there’s a bill) and a beanie.
Kim G says
I definitely want to try that Athleta hat!
Mimi says
The first one is so cute! I need to get it for my sister in law, she’s the runner of the family!
Heather says
It’s not very cold where we live, but when we eventually go on vacation, I will definitely check these out!

Great thanks so much!

Years ago I used to wear a Trailheads ponytail hat and loved it. It was perfect for Winter running. Now I cannot remember what happened to them. Now I am thinking about ordering one.

I really like the looks of it especially useful if it is raining too

This is a great list! I don’t have too much need for hats or headbands here, but it’s nice to see there are so many options for cold-weather runners!.
Deborah Brooks says
No I guess you don’t!

You inspire me to want to run outside more! What great gear. Going to pick up a few of these.

You had me at the pun, lol! I never thoughts about switching up the gear from season to season but that makes a ton of sense. I didn’t even know they had winter baseball caps!

These are all cute! I tend to run with headphones so sometimes it’s trickier for me to find the right headgear!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it can be depending on which type of headphones you are using

Trailheads hats are my absolute favorite! I also have Smartwool beanies for winter.

I always get annoyed running in the cold because I start off freezing them I quickly begin to overheat. I never really know how to dress!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it can be tricky for sure. You want to aim to dress for 10 degrees warmer than it is. layers are always good

I am all about the headbands for winter warmth but that Trailheads Trailblazer Ponytail Cap looks pretty great!
