Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down today. We are loving all of the participation and interaction we are seeing each week. This week we are saying hello August. I have a big goal this month and that is to just embrace the heat and have a better mindset about my runs. Maybe I will start tomorrow ๐
Hello August
Monday- 30 min Peloton + 60 m strength training + 2 mile walk
As usual I like to hit it hard on Monday mornings. Just puts me in a good mindset for the week. Had a fun afternoon power walk with some of my crew.
Tuesday- 3.25 miles + 15 min stretch + 10 min core class
We started and finished our run today at a local coffee shop to mix up our route and provide a little more shade. Still struggled with the humidity.
Wednesday- 20 min Peloton + 90 min strength training and kickboxing
I did not like the way my photo came out so no Workout Wednesday post. Did it really even happen? Yes!
Thursday- 3.5 mile run + 1 mile walk + 10 min core class
Found a short but shady trail to run on ad escape the heat. Walked to Panera and back afterwards for my cold iced tea. I am becoming a very frequent customer there.!
Friday- 45 min Peloton bike + 10 min core
I was hoping to get outside for my bike ride today but woke up to thunderstorm warnings. Never did rain at all! Go figure. Ended up having a great ride and beating my last maximum output so all smiles here.
Saturday- 2.5 mile run and 1/2 mile walk + 20 min Peloton yoga flow
Well hello August! I am determined to try to suck it up and have a better attitude about running. Fall will be here soon! I slept in a bit today and headed out on a solo run. Walked up the hill at the end. Trying to smile here even though my sweat is dripping into my eyes. Ha!
Sunday- hot yoga class
Have not been in a few weeks and I am looking forward to it!
Thanks again for joining us today! I have a yummy summer muffin recipe coming your way for Meatless Monday tomorrow.
Coco says
Fridayโs weather was weird! There was so much lightning when I was walking Scooby, then drizzle, then nothing! This is definitely a time of year to find more shady routes. Iโve been wimping out and going to Orangetheory for the A/C.
Deborah Brooks says
I would hardly call OTF wimping out! If I got up and ran at your hours I would be in much better shape ๐
Kimberly Hatting says
Your suck-it-up attitude is spot-on. Making the best of a less-than-desirable situation (ie, the weather LOL), is really the best any of us can do. That’s how I cope with all that sub-ZERO crap in winter ๐ Onward!!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am really trying to have a better attitude it’s just really challenging and I get so frustrated. This week we are back in the 90’s so we shall see how that goes!
Melissa says
Haha I love that sign! Too funny. And as always, I love all the different types of activity you do. I’m finding it so hard to find time these days to do anything but run with a 1 and 3 year old, but you inspire me.
Deborah Brooks says
Having a 1 and 3 year old is a workout in itself! I am impressed you can get so many miles in a week. I really struggled when my kids were that age.
Jessie says
I’m so impressed that you make it to hot yoga when you’re living in hot yoga studio conditions ๐ You must have sweat out ALL the toxins, ha!
Love the search for shade. It makes a difference! Definitely go easy on yourself in this heat. You had a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
You my husband always asks why I love hot yoga in the summer time. I get such a great stretch and it’s so cleansing. Holding on for September and October ๐
Kim G says
Awesome job this week Deborah! I love that you are embracing the summer heat this month. I have been trying to do the same this summer, but also counting down the days until Fall, lol
Deborah Brooks says
Well…I am planning on embracing the heat. Let’s see how this week goes. Looks like we are in for another hot one
Shathiso says
I love that so many of your runs and workouts involve friends! That’s just awesome. Best of luck in August – let’s make it a great one!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes most of my runs involve my friends. I’ve gotten so used to it that it’s hard to run on my own
Liz Dexter says
Oh humidity is so hard to run through and I hate getting sweat in my eyes (hello, All The Buffs). I just got so hot and sweating officiating I had to have a shower as soon as I got home! Well done on avoiding the thunderstorms, too!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes the humidity has really been killing me lately! I am hoping August is much better
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
That looks like a lovely trail! I’m lucky that I don’t mind the treadmill as much as some. The majority of my runs are still outside, but pretty much all of my speed work has been on the mill this summer.
And yes, if there’s no photo, it happened!
It is definitely hard. It’s hard up here, and we are way cooler. It actually felt like fall this morning . . . I don’t like the heat but I definitely don’t want to see summer end too soon.
Deborah Brooks says
I kind of wish it could be really cool in the mornings and then warm up for the rest of the day. ๐
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I think we are all grumbling about the heat and humidity. It’s been a rough summer for training that’s for sure. I’m counting down the days to October when we are predicted to get weather in the 60s for the first time.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh October sounds fabulous right about now!
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
I am also entering August with the hopes of a better attitude about running. The trails look beautiful with all the greenery!
Deborah Brooks says
Let’s both do it I know we can!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Good job Deborah! Summer running is tough but I think mindset can make such a difference! I do have to ask though…how the heck do you do hot yoga in the summer?! ๐
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha I would ask you how you run 10 miles in the summer!? You know I just get such a good stretch and I feel it’s very cleansing.
angela @ happy fit mama says
After all the hot and humid weather, I had multiple friends remind me that ski season will be starting in less than 10 weeks (if the weather cooperates). When you put it that way, it’s time to soak up the heat.
Deborah Brooks says
wow ski season will be here before you know it!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Hello August for sure! More so for the packed school schedules for me, but I’m looking forward to some structure. Ok, I’m feeling stupid… I don’t get the sign.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh it’s just a play on the Acai bowl trend. They sell them there ๐
Laurie says
You are doing so great at your Peloton training! Maybe wait to make a push on the running until more favorable weather comes to the East Coast?
Deborah Brooks says
I am just really doing the minimum mileage 3-4 miles per run to keep my running fitness from totally dissolving. One more month should do it!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
This is a tough time of year when we have had enough of the heat. I just remind myself that before we know it we will be complaining about the cold! While I am looking forward to fall, I would also like summer to last just a little longer.
Deborah Brooks says
I will not be complaining about the cold! October is usually our best month of running weather around here.
Laura Norris says
Maybe it’s acclimation, but the August heat never seems as bad as the July heat. Or maybe that’s because July is the worst of the weather where I live! You did a great job on getting out for your runs this week!
Deborah Brooks says
I also think July is the hottest here. I am hoping for a slightly cooler August as well. Good luck to both of us!
Renee says
I do know how tough it is to get out there in the heat for sure. But we do what we can, right? You still had a good active week ๐
Deborah Brooks says
Yes we just keep showing up! I will be glad I did
Zenaida Arroyo says
I love your pictures! I am sure the one from Wednesday come out fine. I haven’t been to hot yoga in years. I cannot imagine going to one when it is already hot outside. ๐ I am also trying to change my attitude about running – especially since I have a race in a few weeks!!!
Deborah Brooks says
It is hard to adapt and accept the temps. Those runs leave me so drained the rest of the day. The hot yoga gives me a really nice stretch and I find it so cleansing.
Darlene says
You just do it all – biking, friends run, solo run, walk.
I love all your pics too. I don’t post any workout pics (well they are rare anyway) because they don’t look good.
It almost felt like fall this am. Great weather for running but made me sad…is summer almost over???
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks we do love to take our photos it’s a fun distraction. Fall mornings sound great to me!
Chaitali says
Sounds like a great week overall! I love that goal of just embracing the heat ๐ I’ve been working on that too but it really got to me on my run yesterday. Oh well, all we can do is try!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes all we can do is try! Fall will be here soon
Hannah says
“Maybe I’ll start tomorrow” is how I feel about embracing the heat too! Really glad the forecast for my race is looking relatively moderate.
Deborah Brooks says
It’s been a struggle this summer for sure!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
It sounds like you had a great week of working out! You have the cutest workout and running tanks! Do you ever wear the same one twice? LOL It seems like they’re always something new and different.
Thanks for the linkup!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha yes I do love the graphic tanks! Thanks ๐
Jenn says
I absolutely love everything Peloton has to offer! I really would love to invest in one someday.
Great workout this week! I love the variety and how you get so much done!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I do like to mix it up especially in the summertime when it’s so hot!
