I don’t know about you, but I am sure ready for the start of a new month. It is no secret that I’ve been struggling with running in the summer heat however, I’ve decided I am going to learn to embrace it. I am going to find my inner bad ass again because I know she is in there. So Hello July let’s do this!

Weekly Wrap Hello July

Joining in with Hoho and Wendy for a quick recap of my week of fitness.

Monday- 30 min elliptical, 60 m strength training, 10 mile bike

I am always ready to hit it hard on Mondays. Helps me get the week off to a running start. In case you missed last week’s Meatless Monday this grilled celery with blue cheese is a must try.

Tuesday-3 mile run + 1100 meter swim

Got out there early on this slightly cooler day and feeling a bit better. Slow and steady. Met a friend for an afternoon swim. Great combination.

Hello July

Wednesday- 90 min strength training and running drills

My trainer was tired of hearing me whine about my running struggles, so he dragged me outside for some running drills and sprints. Man, that was ridiculously hard! I was so sore in a good way. We went over some form drills and did a little speed work. Sometimes, he tells me exactly what I need to hear.

Weekly Wrap Hello July

Thursday- 4 mile run

Feeling a little better out there today and really glad that I found a water fountain mid run. Literally stuck my whole head in it!

June Runfessions | Hello July
Thank goodness for water fountains!

Friday- 30 min elliptical + 1800 m swim

Swim class was the place to be today with these temps. Water felt great!

Hello July

Saturday- rest day

Sunday- 4 mile run and swim on the plan for today

Trying to embrace my inner bad ass runner again. I know she is there somewhere. Planning on an early run and swim with my crew. Hello July-Let’s do this!

That’s a Wrap! Hoping this is the week I make peace with the heat. What’s your goal for the week?

Hello July

I hope that summer running gets better for you! A huge part of surviving summer running is the mindset so hopefully as you try to embrace it things will improve! Great week of workouts!

It went a little better today!

You had a great week with a lot of variety! I thought I had made peace with the heat last week, but I just wasn’t feeling it this week. I splash water all over me from our neighborhood park fountain. It’s a lifesaver some days! Love that Just Be You tank! Thanks for linking!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/01/2018 at 6:55 pm

Variety is key for me especially in the summer heat. Have a good week!

I don’t know about embracing the heat, but I’m going to just roll with it! Looks like you are too. Great job!

I think we are going to have to! šŸ™‚

I love that jumping photo of you – so fun! You did a great job of getting out there in the heat for your workouts this week!

I like your attitude about embracing the heat and I wish I could do the same thing but I just hate it so much LOL

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/01/2018 at 6:56 pm

Oh I “plan” to embrace it still in the planning stage šŸ™‚

  5. Lesley says

I hope those drills end up helping your running. I learned never give trainers ideas because they’ll come up with new challenges :-p

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/01/2018 at 7:03 pm

      Oh they sure do! LOL

  6. Kimberly Hatting says

I think you have the right attitude…making peace with the heat. The heat is there, it’s summer, it’s unavoidable. And the heat (and humidity especially) affects all of us. It’s gonna be tougher to breathe, it’s gonna be uncomfortable, and we’re all probably gonna run slower than we’d like. Just embrace the toughness, and it will make you even tougher šŸ˜‰ You totally got this!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/01/2018 at 7:42 pm

Thanks girl! I am certainly working on it. Today went a little better

I was really hoping to be in a pool this weekend but unfortunately I wasn’t. Hopefully this heat wave passes soon!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/01/2018 at 7:43 pm

The pool is the place to be-hope you get there this week šŸ™‚

  8. Jessie says

Great attitude about the heat! We’re all dealing with it. Just ease up on pace and stay hydrated šŸ™‚

Fantastic week with lots of variety for you, I’m impressed!

I love when trainers know exactly what you need to hear. I’m looking forward to July too, I always love fresh starts.

Nothing better than a fresh start!

Great week of cross training, I’m a Monday mixed bag. The spirit is usually willing but the legs might not be there after a Sunday race so I’m anxious to try and run tomorrow.
    Good luck embracing the heat

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2018 at 8:33 am

Yes my Monday workouts sometimes depend on whether I ran on Sat or Sun of that week. Have a good one!

Way to get your badass on in the summer heat! I can totally see why you would want to dunk your head in the fountain…water makes everything more bearable when it’s hot, right! LOVE your last swim pic! Very cool shot.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2018 at 10:41 am

Thanks! Definitely trying to adapt to the heat with each week

  12. Liz Dexter says

    07/02/2018 at 6:11 am

Brilliant work and well done for finding that water fountain! We hardly have any free public ones now (which is causing problems for our homeless population in the heat wave).

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2018 at 10:46 am

It’s tough out there on the east coast right now with the temps so high.

  13. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    07/02/2018 at 9:10 am

I think my goal for this week is survival. šŸ™‚ I have a 4 mile race on the 4th. It’s almost always hot, but I don’t think we’ve ever been in the grip of a heatwave like we are now. And it doesn’t start until 9!

I love that photo of you in the pool! And that’s why you pay your trainer. šŸ™‚

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2018 at 12:15 pm

Ha ha yes indeed! It is going to be a scorcher this week everywhere. Take it easy at your race and have fun

The heat has really been hard this week but you look like you’re having fun in all your photos!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2018 at 2:18 pm

I am having fun always but it’s been slow going around here for sure

  15. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    07/02/2018 at 3:51 pm

I’m trying to make peace with the heat too! It looks like you had a solid week and having the variety of activities I’m sure helped. Hang in there!

      Right back at you!

It looks like you had a good workout week! This heat is definitely affecting my running. Any chance you’re doing the Firecracker 5K in Reston on Wednesday?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2018 at 7:40 pm

We do an annual July 4th run into Georgetown each year that morning

        Ah yes, now I remember!

  18. Amy W says

    07/03/2018 at 2:46 pm

It must be heating up everywhere!!! It’s been pretty warm here lately – not so much today as the thunderstorms blowing through are making the temp cool off and then heat up again. So weird! My goal for this week is to start this marathon training cycle strong and to stay on pace for each run šŸ™‚

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/03/2018 at 6:29 pm

Sounds like a great way to start!

  19. Hannah says

    07/03/2018 at 7:39 pm

Cold water on the head definitely helps with the heat! At least temporarily….I don’t think I ever make peace with it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/04/2018 at 9:27 am

      I am trying to!

  20. Jenn says

    07/07/2018 at 6:54 pm

You’re doing great! This heat is hard for everyone, no matter where they are located. I really need to do a better job about getting back on the bike and in the pool, but I just haven’t been feeling it šŸ™

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/08/2018 at 7:34 am

I have not been feeling the running lately but trying to power through the heat!
