Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. I have much to be thankful and grateful for today on this Thanksgiving Week. I am also very thankful for all of you. These weekly posts warm my heart and bring a smile to my face every Sunday.
Thanksgiving Week Happenings
Monday- lower body + core + upper body + Peloton cycle
whew, I could have used one more weekend day this week. Nonetheless, I am back at it today because that’s how I do Monday.
Tuesday-6.5 mile run
Today was the first day we woke up to wind chills in the low 20″s. This is usually more of a January/February situation around here. I definitely had some struggles dressing. I was freezing the first 2 miles with the wicked wind on my face. The second 2 miles I was pretty good. For the last 2 miles, I was sweating and had taken off the gloves and hat and unzipped the jacket. I finished freezing again.
I came to the conclusion that I need a sherpa to run behind me to carry my layers as I take them on and off. Any takers? Ha! Winter running takes some trial and error at the beginning of the season, doesn’t it?
My daughter and I had an afternoon mani/pedi and grabbed a few more items from the grocery. Third visit in 3 days.
Wednesday- upper body + core + 20 min Peloton cycle
It’s a busy one over here but I always have time for my happy hour. We are hosting Thanksgiving for 18 and I am so not ready! I ordered tablecloths 2 weeks that are not here and not coming. I have backups and obviously, this is a minor issue but I wanted everything to look a certain way. These are the things that stress me out!
Thursday- 6 mile run + Thanksgiving prep
We did our Turkey Trot last weekend so we had our own 10K today. These ladies just warm my heart. Sole Sisters!
While I am so thankful to have been able to have all our family and some friends join us for an in person Thanksgiving again, whew it was a lot of work. I lay in bed thinking today was like a relay race without a medal. Ha! Thankfully, it was drama free this year so that is a plus!
Friday- unplanned rest day
Honestly, I felt like I had run a relay race! Do laundry and dishes count as cardio? I spent most of the day putting things away and cleaning up. Too exhausted for anything but a stretch class to keep up my Peloton streak.
Saturday- 45 min Peloton strength
Dropped both kids back at the airport-sniff. I logged in for an intense full body strength class and that was good for today.
Sunday- on the plan 8 mile run
Hoping my energy is back and I am planning an 8 mile run with the run crew. Looks like a great weather day ahead.
Hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving week! Thanks for joining us.
Kimberly Hatting says
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving with friends and family! It was so nice having all three kids together with us for a few days, too. Good luck on your 8-miler! My 7-miler felt a bit sluggish on Saturday…still rocking a turkey (and all.the.food) hangover, LOL.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I still do feel a little off schedule both eating and sleeping. Hope my run zaps me back into place
Melissa says
Yay for having a full house for Thanksgiving. I can’t imagine how much work it was, so I’m not surprised a test day was needed. I’m jealous of your good weather week – we are having cold and snow aleeady!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it was great but I forgot how much work it was! I cannot complain about our weather right now
Marcia says
Glad to hear your Thanksgiving was drama free! I initially felt a little blue that our group was so small this year but it all worked out and we had lots of fun. Just dropped off Maddie at O’Hare this morning. Sigh. But we’ll see her again soon!
Deborah Brooks says
First time in a while that it was drama free! I was sad to drop my kids back at the airport as well. It doesn’t get easier does it?
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
It sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your friends and family! What a bummer that your tablecloths didn’t arrive in time – I totally get it when you want everything to be just so.
Glad you were able to fit in a run with your friends. And yes, to Monday’s run, it’s so hard to figure out what to wear when the weather changes and wind just makes it all the harder.
Thanks for the linkup and have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
It was really nice to all be together again! Having some friends join the mix was a nice plus
Wendy says
It was so nice to get together this year! I’m always sad after the boys leave. I suppose it will always be like that. Yes, I’m struggling with figuring out the whole running clothes situation right now!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Love that we both have sole sisters. Running friends are the best. I have little mojo running alone.
I spent most of yesterday cleaning and laundry and it’s just the two of us.
Happy Hanukkah
Deborah Brooks says
running friends really are the best! Hope we get to meet up again in 2022. The cleaning is exhausting! Happy Hanukkah to you as well
Black Knight says
Too beautiful to have a full house for a holiday! Here it will happen on Dec 2nd to celebrate, all together, the birthdays of my son (it was on nov. 26) and his 2 sons (nov. 24 and dec. 2).
I usually run alone but I know very well how nice running in group with the friends is.
Enjoy your 8 miler run.
Deborah Brooks says
Running with friends makes me happy! Hope you enjoy having your family home next weekend too!
Jenny says
I can’t even fathom how you hosted 18 people! You seriously do deserve a medal for that. Looks like you had a great week- and tonight is Hanukkah, right? It’s a busy time- enjoy!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, it was busy and so nice to have everyone here. Hanukkah does start tonight but the kids are already gone so it will be low key
Coco says
Hosting is exhausting, and you had a big crowd for a big meal — and I’m sure you went above and beyond. I often feel like I’ve been hit by a truck after hosting even a small gathering. Glad your kids made it home, and I’m sure you’ll be seeing them again soon!
LOL on the sherpa for your shedded layers. I defintlely would like that on the bike!
Here’s to a great week — and Happy Hanukkah!
Deborah Brooks says
I sure did feel like I was hit by a truck! It was lots of fun though. I can’t believe its Hanukkah already
Michelle D. says
What a great gathering you had for Thanksgiving! And, yes hosting is exhausting.
Hope you had a great run today!
Deborah Brooks says
I think I am finally recovered! It was gorgeous out today and felt good out there thanks

18 people is double the most I have ever had (maybe I had 10 once, can’t really remember). It IS a lot of work! I didn’t have to cook at all, but my mom won’t use her dishwasher, and that meant I had to wash everything by hand & dry — she also gets upset if things aren’t put away like immediately.
Glad you were able to host such a great getogether, i’m sure everyone appreciated it & I know your food was delicious. I used to use butcher paper. Goes with everything, LOL!
Deborah Brooks says
It sure was a lot of work! I was really happy to host and have everyone together again. I am still putting things away! 🙂
Liz Dexter says
What a lovely week! I was layers on, layers off just yesterday (starting for parkrun, coming home when it was cancelled, layers off, short sleeved top to get my covid booster vaccine, back home to wrap up, out in the evening to our running club’s awards night!).
Deborah Brooks says
It is always challenging to dress this time of the year!
Jessie says
Wow, that is a big group to host! sorry about the tablecloths.
It’s okay to take a rest day after such a busy time! 🙂 Happy Holidays!
Deborah Brooks says
So glad I took the extra day. Feeling back to normal already
Kim G says
So happy to hear that you had a great Thanksgiving – I love that group photo! I can definitely see how hosting a large Thanksgiving could be exhausting though.
Deborah Brooks says
So exhausting but definitely worth it!
Jenn says
This week has been forever!!!
I loved seeing all your beautiful family photos on social this week. Your smile lit tup the room! So glad it was a wonderful week!
Deborah Brooks says
Exhausting but fabulous at the same time! Thanks
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
18 people? You go girl! It looks like a great gathering and a fun run with your running buds. That is something to be thankful for indeed! And now, a little bit of relaxing until the holiday craziness begins again!
Deborah Brooks says
It was a lot of fun and I have finally recovered
Shathiso says
I think that was a well-deserved rest day on Friday after hosting 18 people for Thanksgiving! That’s a marathon!
Deborah Brooks says
It sure is! Whew it’s over 🙂
