It’s been a while since I did a Loving Lately post and well, there is so much I am loving lately. October took a while to really settle in and bring with it the cool, crisp temps I have been longing for. Along with the autumn air came so many of my favorite things.
October Loving Lately
Long cool runs and hot baths
The cooler air has finally given me a renewed excitement in running that had been missing all summer. Long weekend runs are back in full swing. My favorite post long run ritual is the hot epsom salt baths. Best way to recover.
Fall nail colors
While I do love the summer corals and pinks, I always get excited for the deep reds and richer colors of fall nails. I am currently wearing this mauve purple color and loving it. (photo source)
Slow Cooker Soups and meals
I am loving that my crock pot has come back out to take center stage on my counter top. Soup and Chili season have finally arrived. Current faves Pumpkin chipotle Black Bean soup and White Bean Quinoa chili.
Warm coffee on a cool day
I love waking up on a cool morning and being the first one downstairs into the kitchen. The sound of the warm coffee dripping into my mug along with the delicious aroma wafting my way, gets me in my “I am going to kick ass today” mode. How cute are the mugs with the little sweaters?
Hot Yoga
Now that the temps have dropped, I have a renewed love for hot yoga class. The warmth of the class allows me to get a much better stretch. Perfect for all of those long run recovery days.
Tell me: Has your slow cooker come out yet? Do you change your workouts with the seasons? What are you loving lately?

I love that nail color! I only cook for 2 people so I feel it’s a hassle to get the slow cooker out although I really want to use it!
Deborah Brooks says
I only cook for 2 now as well since the kids are gone. I love to make soups and then freeze them in individual serving sizes

I actually use my slow cooker year around but this time of year more hearty, thick based dishes are being cooked in it opposed to just batch cooking proteins.
Deborah Brooks says
Slow cookers are just the best!
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh yes, the crock pot has been in use 😉 Although I don’t drink coffee, I do LOVE coming downstairs on a cool morning and smelling it (the hubby is the resident coffee guru).
Deborah Brooks says
There is nothing like the smell of coffee in the morning!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
I def have busted out the slow cooker! LOVE that nail color too. I need to get mine done this weekend.
Deborah Brooks says
You should definitely get a mani pedi for yourself while you have time!
Debbie says
I need to pull out my slow cooker! Between this recipe and a couple others I’ve seen I really want to use it. I’m loving the cooler weather too, and I love my morning cup of coffee to start the day.
Deborah Brooks says
The slow cookers just make everything easier and smell delicious all day
Farrah says
Those nails are so pretty! :O I keep meaning to paint my nails but still haven’t gotten around to it yet, haha. I’ve definitely been all for soups/chilis and slow cooker recipes lately though!
Deborah Brooks says
I think you should treat yourself to a mani 🙂 You deserve it
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
That mauve color is gorgeous! I have a pink mauve on my toes and I think it’s a great way to add a neutral but still have some color.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes exactly!

I’ve been finding myself soaking in a hot bath on the regular lately too. Sooo nice! That mug sweater is adorable! When we were in Ireland the trees around Blarney Castle wore trunk sweaters. 😀 Given the recent turn of events, I’m going to be running this winter. A lot!
Deborah Brooks says
wow I never heard of tree sweaters! I am excited for you 🙂
Lesley says
Oh yes, my slow cooker has come out. We’re warming up this week so I won’t use it this weekend, but I’ve made some yummy meals in it already. It makes it so easy some weekends to just throw everything in and let it cook. Get a liner and cleanup is oh so easy.
Deborah Brooks says
The liners are a game changer for sure. Happy cooking!
Darlene says
My fireplace.. Hot coffee, yes. Need to try hot yoga too. the fall foliage colors.
Deborah Brooks says
We have not turned on our fireplace yet. You should check out a hot yoga class when you are in NYC they have great ones

My Instant Pot is now my slow cooker, and yes, I am all about soups right now. Brrrr! We had our first hard freeze this morning & yesterday was 15 degrees below normal!
I’m the first one up (if you don’t count Giz pacing back & forth), but I actually start with warm lemon water before I make some tea (no coffee!). There is nothing like wrapping my hands around a warm mug of tea when it’s cold out.
Deborah Brooks says
wow that is chilly already! I love the feel of the warmth on the hands from the mug as well. Stay warm!
Abbey Sharp says
I haven’t pulled out the slow cooker but I definitely need to! Awesome post
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks have a great weekend
Wendy says
I’m kinda loving that coffee sweater! I have mixed feelings about the cool weather–love it for running but I hate being cold!
Deborah Brooks says
I kind of wish it could just be cool and wonderful while I was running then warm up a bit for the rest of the day.
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I’m usually very conservative when it comes to my nail polish choices (despite my nail lady’s best efforts, lol) but that purple color is really pretty. I’m getting a manicure tomorrow morning…you have me thinking about maybe branching out. Maybe.
Deborah Brooks says
Well now I am going to wonder! You may have to post a pic. Enjoy your mani pedi you deserve it
Coco says
I am loving this weather! I FINALLY got back to my favorite yoga class this week, and it was awesome. Love that nail polish! I alternate between light pink and bright pink depending on my mood. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Hot yoga is great this time of the year. We are due for a date
Mikki says
Oh man. I so want to get my coffee sweater out, but it’s been in the 90’s here. UGH. Though, I’ve been enjoying some long hot baths after a good work out.
Fun post to read.
Deborah Brooks says
It has to cool down sometime!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I can’t wait to make soups and chili this fall! No slow cooker but perhaps I should look into one.
Deborah Brooks says
They really are the best and makes things so easy
Renée says
that nail color Deborah… <3
I gave my slow cooker away and I'm sort of regretting it… thing is it was huge and we just don't have the space. friend of mine really wanted to try cooking with a slow cooker before buying one so I said "here, just take mine". Maybe I'll look for a smaller one.
I do plan on amping up my gym sessions more now that it's cooler out – more bodypump and more rpm! and I won't be training for any huge events for a while so cross training will do me good. I know what you mean about the cooler fall long runs though… it's the best time of year if you ask me! (as long as it's not raining…)
Deborah Brooks says
Slow cookers have come in quite a bit in price now and they do make all sizes. It’s really on of my favorite pieces of kitchen equipment
Natalie says
Soups and stews and cup of hot coffee in the early morning while everyone still asleep… I’m so with you girl. Love that nail polish color. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Best way to start off the day for sure!
Esther says
I have yet to get out my crock pot, but I have a feeling this weekend it will make an appearance. We finally have had fall temps for over a week so it feels it is here to stay for a bit!
LOVE those nail colors! Ahh, fall is my favorite!
Deborah Brooks says
Enjoy the fall weather and your crock pot
