It’s Friday and time to link up with the fabulous DC Trifecta- Cynthia, Mar and Courtney for this week’s theme “5 Things I love about…”
So today I’m going with a lighthearted post
I’ve written about how much I love my Moms Run This Town group before and how much I really enjoy being a Co-Chapter Leader with my friend, Alex. Here are my top 5 reasons why I love them:
1. We don’t judge- Run fast, run slow, run long, run short. Walk, skip or jog with a stroller. We don’t mind. We’re not competitive. We have runners of all paces and distances and more likely than not, there is always someone to run with. Doing your first post baby run? Need to get in a 20 mile training run? Want to run at 0 dark thirty or noon? We’ve got an app for that! Well not exactly but you get the gist.
2. We are not afraid to go all in with our style- We love to pull out all the stops with our race day outfits. Trust me you will feel far less silly riding the metro at 6 am in your reindeer outfit and crazy socks if your girlfriends are along for the run.
3. We’re not afraid to get dirty! Crazy race idea? No problem we’re in! Want to do a crazy, muddy, foamy, color or obstacle race? One of more of us are always will to join you and you won’t even have to twist our arms.
4. We give back-MRTT prides itself and making community connections and giving back by volunteering whenever we can. We manned a multi-Chapter water stop for the Nike Women’s Half this spring. Great to be on the other side of the table and cheer on our friends.
5. We’ve got your back!- Running and running friends really are cheaper than therapy. Going through a hard time? Just need a night out with the girls? Just say the word (Wine/Beer) and we’re there for you. When your running friends become your real friends, life is good.
Those are my top 5 reasons for LOVING my running group. What do you love about your running friends?
Tina Muir says
Booo! i am jealous! I do 99% of my runs alone, and that is not fun, but I know that is part of the deal of me running fast is that I have to run alone to get to where I want to be. I am hoping when I move I can find a group for at least my recovery runs.
Looks like you guys have so much fun, and I love that you can dress up and be a little silly t times, definitely makes it more enjoyable on the slogging days!
Deborah Brooks says
We are at a whole other level for sure. Most of us run for fun and fitness. I have seen lots of the members get way faster and run far longer with the group. They start running with faster ladies and they become faster. It has been such a great experience all around for me.
Jennifer says
Chatting away is a plus, but also getting introduced to new running routes.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes definitely! Chatting does make the miles fly by for sure
jill conyers says
I love it when I was able to run with a running group! Unfortunately the timing of when we could meet became to frustrating. I need to start another one!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes you do! Start your own MRTT group!!!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I’d been looking forward to running with you ladies at some point this summer, but my crazy schedule earlier this summer never worked out with the time of the runs, and now I’m getting ready to go back to school on Monday, which doesn’t work for the timing of the runs either. Hopefully our paths will cross soon though, maybe at an event at Road Runner!
Deborah Brooks says
yes we were looking forward to meeting you on a run. Perhaps on a weekend sometime. This summer did kind of fly by!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I love my running friends–we meet at races, we lunch together, and we support each other virtually. But I run alone. I don’t want the pressure of conversation or keeping up with someone else’s pace. Weird, I know…
Deborah Brooks says
No not weird at all! It’s not for everyone. I like the company and accountability.
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
So fun! I need to join a running group 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
You definitely do!
Lauren @ Lauren's Glass Slipper says
OMG I ran the Nike Women’s Half in DC earlier this…I totally could have seen you! Running groups really are the best… I miss mine. I haven’t gotten to run with them since my injury and I can’t wait to get back to running with them!
Deborah Brooks says
They are the best! I love them. I bet we did see you run by!
Kristy @Runaway Bridal Planner says
I love all your reasons for running! For me I agree with all and I’d like to add that it is the best time to relax and enjoy your own thoughts and sort through all your problems ending the run refreshed problems solved and ready to start the day!
Deborah Brooks says
It is a great time to relax and start the day!
Kat @ Life by the Laces says
Looks like a great group 🙂
I love my church running group, and I just joined another to train for another half. I feel a little like I’m cheating on my original group, but groups are just so much fun!
Deborah Brooks says
It will be our little secret! Groups are great fun!
AMP runs says
I love my running groups! Some groups, I will admit, are better than others. But they’re all great at getting you motivated. I enjoy them a night or two a week, and then do other runs by myself.
Deborah Brooks says
That’s great that you’ve found a balance that works for you!
Karen - Fit in France says
I have been really tempted to join a running group but haven’t really looked. Maybe this fall ! In any case, you make it sound really fun !
Deborah Brooks says
oh you must! You can even start a chapter if you want to
Mar @ Mar on the Run says
I love that last quote!
Deborah Brooks says
ah thanks! Me too! Happy Friday!
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness says
Looks like such a fun group!! Maybe thats my problem- I need to start doing cardio in groups!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes for sure can’t love my group enough!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Great post! You nailed it for sure. My life hasn’t been the same since MRTT came into the picture!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes you know I can’t say enough about all of you amazing people I’ve met! #MRTT love
Meranda@fairytalesandfitness says
I run with a partner but never with a group. My sister use to have a running group but hasn’t found a new one yet since she moved. You ladies look like you have so much fun!
Deborah Brooks says
We do! She should start an MRTT group where she lives
Alexandra says
You know I love our MRTT chapter – and couldn’t agree more with EVERYTHING you wrote – I would never have met any of the wonderful, thoughtful, inspiring beautiful strong ladies I now am lucky enough to call friends without it. I love to help be a part of other peoples motivation to get out there but am as much inspired , supported by others as anyone else and I love that. xx
Deborah Brooks says
I absolutely agree. It’s been so personally fulfilling to watch our members achieve their goals and know that we were a part of that. We are so lucky to have such a great group of women to call our friends. 🙂
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
running friends are the best friends. i love this post 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Couldn’t agree more! Happy Friday 🙂
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I love everything about this post, and agree with all of your five points! Even though I love my Cruisers, I’m SO GLAD I found my MRTT friends!
Deborah Brooks says
WE are the best aren’t we?! Have a great weekend
Mary Beth Jackson says
Do you ladies meet at the same time every week? A couple of us have started a running group that meets on Wednesday evening at our local wine bar and then runs. The wine bar provides us free bottle water when we finish and of course the goal is to get back before happy hour ends and have a glass of wine and catch up. I need ideas on how to grow the group. Should I look at this MRTT group? Happy Saturday!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes!! OMG yes you have to start one. Look at the Nat’l page for info but I’m happy to help. We just kept adding runs on so people would start coming and now we have 10-15 runs a week at all times and days. happy to chat with you about it anytime
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
You are really lucky to have this awesome group of ladies! We moved a year ago and I found two running groups that I run with occasionally, but both are largely men… where are all the ladies?! I’ll have to search for a near by Moms run this town group, or start one!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh you should start one! Best thing I ever did. Check the National web page to see if there is one near you. If you ever want to chat about it let me know!
Haley @ Running with diapers says
I love that we posted such similar posts for the #FridayFive. I know I’m going to love MRTT once I’m back out there postpartum. I can hardly wait. Your chapter looks like a lot of fun!
Deborah Brooks says
I know great minds think alike right?! You will be back out there before you know it
