1. Eat-Don’t skip meals on Halloween. Going into the night hungry only leads to a meltdown besides, no one likes to be around a sour patch.

2. Get it done-Plan to get those Tootsies moving early Friday and get that workout out done in time for Trick or Treating.

3. Get rid of it-Donate left over loot to Operation Gratitude or to your local food pantry/shelter. You’ll Skor some major points with that move.

4. Plan a weekend with Mounds of activity. There are lots of Halloween themed races and Pumpkin patches to explore.

5. Relax-It’s only one day! A few extra M&M’s won’t keep you from looking like a Hot Tamale tomorrow.

Happy Halloween ~Hugs & Kisses

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

We are going to a Halloween party tonight! First one in many years and we are actually wearing the gypsy and pirate costumes I made over 20 years ago! Of course I had to get a few new things to freshen them up!

I feel like people definitely need to relax about Halloween. The greatest concern should be for your kid’s safety! And by that, I mean not killing THEM for getting too hyper off of the candy πŸ˜‰

      10/31/2014 at 8:36 am

Yes that is the most important thing. I’ve already eaten a few samples just to make sure that they are safe and all πŸ™‚

Very cute! I have “Mounds” of energy, so I’m heading out with my hubby for a trail run; and yes, I’ll watch out for leaf covered rocks!

    Happy halloween!

  7. Jennifer @ Running on Lentils says

    10/31/2014 at 9:12 am

LOVE this! So clever. Because I’m running a 5K tomorrow morning, I actually can’t eat any candy today (for fear it will give me tummy issue), so it’s nice to know I can’t eat any today. As for leftover candy, the lucky trick-or-treater who comes at the end of the night is getting it all!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2014 at 10:39 am

Now that was smart thinking ahead my friend!

  8. Chaitali says

    10/31/2014 at 9:21 am

Great tips! It also helps knowing exactly how much is in each of those candies to help decide if they’re worth it πŸ™‚ I’ve got a couple runs and a wedding where I’m planning for lots of dancing this weekend so I think the activity is covered.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2014 at 10:33 am

      Absolutely true! Have fun tonight

SO CUTE, Deborah! I love this list! And, by the way…how did you know about my addiction to Hot Tamales?!? πŸ™‚ HA! Thanks so much and I hope you have a wonderful Halloween weekend!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2014 at 10:38 am

who doesn’t love hot tamales (and chocolate that’s my weakness) Happy Halloween!

Love the list! Very creative! We’ll be trick or treating like crazy today. I think this will be the first year both boys will actually enjoy it. I know I’m in trouble if my 5 year old asks “can we go to all of the houses this year?” :p

I don’t have a huge sweet tooth, so I’m not too temped with candy around this holiday, but I will snack on any leftovers. So we only purchased one bag of candy this year in an attempt to avoid leftovers. I keep telling myself that I can’t even have ONE PIECE because I need to make sure there’s enough for trick-or-treaters. Hopefully I don’t run out and end up with egg all over our house. lol

  18. Sarah says

    10/31/2014 at 3:21 pm

Love it! So far I have managed to keep the candy away. I always say I will just have “a little” but have far too many treats. This year my husband said I couldn’t do it… nice challenge I felt like a kid with the double dog daring. So I started a new 21 day macro and workout plan on Monday and so far so good without giving in! I am thinking I should take the trick or treating duty tonight instead of handing out candy. πŸ˜‰

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2014 at 6:10 pm

It’s so hard to resist. On a regular day I can do it but I’m feeling weak (bc I need chocolate)

  19. Laura@ Fit Running Mama says

    10/31/2014 at 3:25 pm

Great list!! Enjoy and have fun– Just got back from my daughters parade and the wind is brutal and the temps are even worse! Trick or treating is going to be harsh if she wants to do it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2014 at 6:11 pm

It is getting really chilly out here too! Have fun
