This week was another jam packed week with lots of running and cross training. With the Cherry Blossom 10 miler race just 4 weeks away, increasing my running mileage while staying injury free has been my focus. Even though triathlon season is quickly approaching, I have not thought about training for it until this weekend. I realized I kind of did a sort of tri this weekend by accident. Let me explain in this Weekly Wrap A Tri-ing Week.
Weekly Wrap A Tri-ing Week
Monday-15 min elliptical and 60 min strength training
Tuesday- 6 mile run + 60 min yoga class
After a few days off last weekend traveling, I was excited to get in a longer run.
Wednesday- 15 min elliptical + 90 min strength training and kick boxing
Thursday- 6 mile run
Tired legs today but made it through.
Friday- 60 minutes yoga + swim class (2000 m)
Loved the combo of yoga right before swim. Glad to be back on my weekly Friday swim class routine and happy to log some good distance.
Saturday- 26 miles on a simulated tri bike course
First class on a computrainer that simulated a local tri course. A chance to ride with Coco as well. Look for a full review on this coming Wednesday.
Sunday- 9 mile run on the plan
A tri-ing week
So, here’s what I am thinking….I may have accidentally done a triathlon this weekend without even meaning to. With a long swim on Friday, a bike ride on Saturday and a run on Sunday, I have to think that counts for something. Ever do a tri by accident? What do you think? Who says a triathlon has to be completed all in one day? I might be on to something here.

A 2000m swim is insane! That’s so much harder than running 5 miles to me haha. You really kicked butt with your workouts this week.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! The hardest one was actually the bike ride for me
Wendy says
I have to say that I have never done a tri by accident! LOL! But I have done computrainer and that is really tough. Actually, that was before I ever ran a marathon. I did the class on my mom bike with a bunch of Ironmen and they all shamed me into doing a marathon–the rest is history!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha now that sounds like a great story! I was so amazed by how hard it was.
Laura says
That definitely counts as solid tri training! Nice work with all the strength work too- I love the amount of variety you’re getting in!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! I attribute the variety to keeping me healthy!
Jessie says
Wow, what a great variety of workouts you fit in- so impressive! I can’t wait until I can swim laps again…A swim class sounds great. Is it customized for people training for triathlons? Or all different types of swimmers?
Deborah Brooks says
My swim class is offered at the gym as a master swim class. Not everyone does tri races. I am amazed at the shape some of the older people are in from swimming their whole lives
Kimberly Hatting says
Well, that’s a very good to way to look at it! I so admire how committed you are to the swimming aspect, which I assume is the most challenging of the three disciplines (?). I know you haven’t been in the pool a lot yet, but I know you will be if history repeats itself. 😉 I’m excited for your Cherry Blossom 10-miler…wish I could run that one!
Deborah Brooks says
I have not been in the pool a lot yet but it is the shortest part of the race. I need to do more biking as soon as CB happens. Yes one of these years you must come down and do it. You can stay w me!
Kim G says
Whoa – you had a busy week full of workouts – Yoga, running, cycling, swimming, etc! I always love your variety of workouts.
To answer your question, I’ve never done a Tri by accident
Deborah Brooks says
I did have a busy week kind of by accident!

A tri by accident, thats just awesome! I pulled a muscle so I am focusing on strength training and laying of the running this week until it feels better. Not happy! No accidentally tri for me!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh no hope you are feeling better with a little rest! Have a great week 🙂
HoHo Runs says
I can’t wait to hear about your computrainer class. I’ve never done that. It sounds like fun to be able to ride a local tri course too. Yes, you absolutely completed a tri! Who said it had to be done on one day? LOL. Thanks for linking!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s what I say! 🙂
Coco says
You definitely deserve a medal at least! How was your run? My legs were TIRED so I opted for 6 instead of the 8 I was toying with.
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Well you definitely did some cross training this weekend. I wish my gym had a pool so I could start swimming.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Great that you’ve gotten back in the pool! 2000 meters is awesome!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Im sure that counts for something! Ive never done anything like that by accident but I have accidentally run a half marathon. Looks like a great week of workouts!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha ha funny when that happens too!
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
Can’t say I’ve ever done a tri by accident but props to you! The Cherry Blossom race is on my bucket list some day, maybe next year!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s a fun race hope you have the chance to run it one year
Lesley says
Great job! I’m not a swimmer, so no, I’ve never done a tri by accident. Swimming is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
Deborah Brooks says
Swimming can be really intimidating for sure! it is the shortest part of the race though
Shathiso says
One of my secret goals this year is to do a triathlon… I say secret because I haven’t written it down so it doesn’t count yet! My only problem is I can’t swim. There’s a super sprint triathlon in the first week of December, and the swim distance is 400m… wondering whether in the time I have left I can learn to pull off a 400 m swim… hhmm. Need to think long and hard!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I think you can!! Plenty of time to train
Teresa says
You had an awesome week of workouts and training!! Can’t wait to hear about this computer cycling ride …I’m really anxious to get back to cycling this spring and summer!
Deborah Brooks says
It was really an interesting experience posting about it on Friday
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Nope, never unintentionally did a tri. 🙂 And will never intentionally do one either — although maybe I’ll try an indoor one someday.
Still not back to swimming (even though it would be good for the knee). Seriously, the endless winter sucks the life out of me. Although oddly enough today I don’t feel that way, despite the snow.
Deborah Brooks says
The winter is getting to me today too. We did not get any snow again but I am over this crazy wind all the time.
