Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down. It is always fun and motivating to read what everyone is doing to stay active each week. I feel like we have our own little support group here each week. I am continuing my goal this month to embrace the August Heat and keep smiling. Here’s how it went down:

Embracing the August Heat

Monday- 40 min Peloton bike + 60 min Strength training + 2.5 mile power walk

Mondays are always super active for me as I usually take it easy on Sundays. I also feel good starting the week off on a strong note. Because I am back on the RunBet challenge for the next 4 weeks, my 2.5 mile afternoon power walk was the perfect way to begin. I am planning on hosting another one in September. More details to come. You can read how it works here.

Tuesday- 3.5 mile run + 10 min core

embracing the August heat

Another sweaty run another iced tea finish. I think we have hit just about every coffee shop and bakery this summer. It has been fun finding new spots to run in and seek shade.

Wednesday- 20 min Peloton + 90 min kickboxing and strength training

I enjoy mixing in some core work in between kick boxing exercises. Plus you just look tougher with boxing gloves on right?! Ha ha.

embracing the August heat

Thursday-3.25 mile run + 10 min core

embracing the summer heat

How’s that for embracing the August heat? Ran right into these beautiful lazy Susans and could not resist the photo stop.

Friday- 45 min Peloton 80’s rock lass + 10 m core

Gotta say I do love these sing out loud classes when no one can hear me.

embracing the August heat

Met some friends for coffee at a new doughnut shop. Admittedly, I am more of a cookie girl but could not resist.

Saturday-30 min bike + 30 min run brick

First bike run brick done since last summer! This run went way better than I expected even after the bike. The slightly cooler temps and lower humidity made a huge difference. I saw paces that I have not seen since May. I am feeling much more confident about the SUP Triathlon next month.

Sunday- rest day

Hosting a BBQ today will catch up with you all later tonight.

I think I had a much better mindset this week about the heat. How are you embracing the August heat? More importantly- cookies or doughnuts? Thanks for joining us today.

Chocolate donuts are my kryptonite! I wouldn’t have been able to say no either. But you earned it!

That’s what I like to think too!

Omg that donut…looks good enough to convert a cookie girl, no?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 1:15 pm

I think it might be! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Coco says

    08/11/2019 at 8:18 am

You had a great week! You do look tougher doing that core work in boxing gloves. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am not a huge donut fan either, but I do like cake donuts. Yummy!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 1:16 pm

ha ha on the boxing gloves! There are so many new food spots in Ballston now we are planning our fall runs around them ๐Ÿ™‚

    08/11/2019 at 10:59 am

Iโ€™m with you on the cookies vs.donuts…though I seldom shun them either. Great mindset on embracing the heat… itโ€™s gonna be there regardless, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 1:20 pm

Yes this week went better with slightly cooler temps I just have to power through until September

  5. Melissa says

    08/11/2019 at 12:19 pm

I’m also more of a cookie girl than a donut girl, but that looks yummy! Great job staying active in the heat.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 1:22 pm

      Cookies for the win!

    08/11/2019 at 12:26 pm

Cookies all the way. That photo of you on the bench with the black eye susans is great!

We were blessed with a mostly cooler week this week. Don’t love the heat but am not ready to say goodbye to summer, either.

    Have a great BBQ!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:01 pm

cookies definitely! We have another few hot days ahead but I am going to keep a good attitude and power through

Awesome job embracing the heat this week! Luckily it was a little bit cooler on Saturday ๐Ÿ™‚

For sweets, I’m more of a cake or pie person, but if I had to decide between doughnuts and cookies, I would pick cookies (choc chip or oatmeal raisin). For some reason I’m not a huge doughnut lover even though they are delicious.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:09 pm

Saturday was our best day around here as well. I actually enjoyed my run that day. Definitely cake and cookies over donuts ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    08/11/2019 at 12:56 pm

Great job embracing the heat! I agree on cookies over donuts, but that chocolate donut looks heavenly ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:16 pm

I did really enjoy it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Gotta live a little right!?

  9. Shathiso says

    08/11/2019 at 1:30 pm

Boxing gloves most certainly add to the “tough” look! LOL. It gets so hot during summer where I am and I’ve found the only way to power through is to embrace the heat! Well done on doing that this week!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:20 pm

Yes I do imagine it is quite hot there! I guess you eventually adapt to it. I will still be happy when fall arrives ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Marcia says

    08/11/2019 at 1:42 pm

I’m on team cookie as well! How great that brick felt good! Temps have definitely moderated here. It still gets hot during the day but it’s less humid, which is huge. The best thing is it’s been cooling down at night to the point I can open the windows. Aaaah!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:24 pm

It is getting slightly better with the humidity here too. I am trying to have a positive outlook and look forward to September temps.Opening the windows already? Wow!

  11. Jessie says

    08/11/2019 at 1:52 pm

I love your new mantra, embrace the heat and smile ๐Ÿ™‚

Always impressed by your solid variety of workouts!

That ice tea looks so refreshing…!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:28 pm

I am really trying to power through and make it to fall ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Cari says

    08/11/2019 at 2:32 pm

You’re going to be amazing with the SUP Triathlon. I missed this RunBet but hope not to miss the September one. I’m up for it. And yes, team cookie always and forever

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:32 pm

I will remind you about the runbet! It’s fun to do

      • Cari says

        08/11/2019 at 9:33 pm

        Yes please!

  13. Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says

    08/11/2019 at 3:45 pm

I’m kinda over this heat to be honest. The humidity just makes most runs really tough. I did have some good runs last week but lately it’s been side stitches almost every run and its been hard to motivate myself. I’m ready for some fall weather but most likely here in FL we won’t get that until mid October, sigh.

  14. Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says

    08/11/2019 at 3:46 pm

I’m over the August heat and heat in general to be honest. It’s really hard for me to breathe in high humidity so pretty much every run has been really tough. I can’t wait for some fall weather but here in FL we most likely won’t even get that until mid October. Sigh.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:37 pm

Yes it has been pretty challenging this summer for me. I am trying to push through to fall

  15. Zenaida Arroyo says

    08/11/2019 at 3:58 pm

The weather this past week was so much better. I am liking it! Chocolate long johns from Dunkin is what I love.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:40 pm

My husband loves those Chocolate long Johns too!

  16. Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says

    08/11/2019 at 3:58 pm

Cookies all the way! Nice week of work – I am excited to see how training for the SUP tri continues!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:43 pm

Thanks I am excited for the SUP tri as well! Should be fun to do something different

  17. Liz Dexter says

    08/11/2019 at 4:23 pm

I like your pursuit of the iced tea!! No August heat here – it’s been in the mid-60s at most and raining a lot all week …

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:47 pm

ah mid 60’s that is like runner porn ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Hannah says

    08/11/2019 at 8:03 pm

Good job embracing the heat! That did not work so well for me…I am pretty sunburnt ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to be in the right mood for a donut (and it has to be the right donut), but I can almost always go for a cookie!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:50 pm

I can always go for a cookie too!

  19. Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says

    08/11/2019 at 8:24 pm

I did runbet last fall. I liked that it was treadmill friendly and it pushed me to increase some of my weekly workouts. Cookies > donuts but I would have been all over that donut!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/11/2019 at 9:52 pm

Yes I really liked the challenge of run bet too!

  20. Lisa @ Mile by Mile says

    08/12/2019 at 4:57 am

I think I’ve gotten used to the heat at this point. Although when we have cooler weeks its always hard to adjust back when the humidity returns. I prefer cookies and will usually pass on donuts!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 7:08 am

Last week’s weather was much better wasn’t it?!

  21. Laura Norris says

    08/12/2019 at 5:33 am

I can’t say no to a good donut! Good job on staying so active in that heat!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 7:11 am

I did enjoy the donut ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Chaitali says

    08/12/2019 at 8:13 am

This week definitely felt easier with the slightly cooler weather ๐Ÿ™‚ And that doughnut looks delicious!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 11:35 am

Yes the temps make a huge difference for me as well.

  23. Laurie says

    08/12/2019 at 8:57 am

Oh, my. That donut!!! I would weigh 500 lbs. if I lived close to that donut shop. Your mix of strength, running, biking and everything else you do is so impressive. It always inspires me to do more than just run.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 11:37 am

Well I have a running friend who is a bad influence with the dounuts! I do like to mix up my workouts. Keeps me from getting injured!

  24. Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says

    08/12/2019 at 9:05 am

An 80’s rock class sounds so fun! I think I would choose donuts over cookies but I really love both!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 11:38 am

I do really enjoy the themed cycle classes to mix it up!

  25. Laetitia says

    08/12/2019 at 10:29 am

I love all your home gym set-ups! And that rose shirt, obviously ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 11:42 am

Ha yes a new addition but a fast favorite ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

    08/12/2019 at 11:50 am

Cookies over doughnuts every day of the week, but that one does look tempting! I’m very picky about doughnuts and usually not willing to waste calories on one I’m not crazy about – I’m a big fan of Bavarian cream. In fact, this spring while at the beach we stopped at Duck Donuts after our bike ride and since they didn’t have Bavarian cream I just got a chocolate milk.

    Thanks for the linkup!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 12:02 pm

I am also picky about donuts. I want my snacks to be worth it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Now I want chocolate milk

  27. Renรฉe says

    08/12/2019 at 1:33 pm

Great week Deborah! and well done on facing and embracing the heat! We actually have cooled down over here so it’s been quite bearable.

I think I’m more of a cookie girl but I generally don’t turn down a good looking donut ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/12/2019 at 2:11 pm

Enjoy the cooler temps! Cookies all the way ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says

    08/13/2019 at 12:05 pm

I guess I’d have to vote for cookies – unless it was a raisin oatmeal. I dislike raisins hiding in my cookies!! I would not turn down a donut though ๐Ÿ™‚ Great workouts this week – yeah brick workout!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/13/2019 at 3:06 pm

ha ha I have not had an oatmeal raisin cookie in a long time and now I want one
