5 Essentials in My Gym Bag

It’s Friday!!

Time to link up again with the fabulous DC Trifecta:  Courtney    Cynthia and Mar  for this week’s theme 5 Things in my Bag. What a fun one.

How much fun is this!?
How much fun is this!?

On Fridays, I usually do a double at Dancing Mind Yoga consisting of 45 minutes of Indoor Cycling followed by 45 minutes of Hot Yoga/Sculpt. The yoga is an interesting mix and Baptiste yoga and free weights. I have a hard time doing plain old yoga for a whole 60 min class so this combo has become my new fave. I just love my Friday workout. There is something so satisfying about sweating your butt off in a 100 degree room while doing weights. It is so much more challenging and it really kicks my butt every time.

This is what my bag looks like on the way to class each Friday. I’m highlighting 5 of my favorite items.

My typical Friday gym bag

1. Nathan Power Shower wipes– I discovered these a few years back. After a Hot Yoga class, I am disgustingly sweaty (in a good way) and the first thing I do is grab one of these to wipe of my face and neck. I also keep a spare pack in my car for post run wipe offs. I highly recommend them.

2. Hoo Ha Ride Glide– If you’ve ever sat on an indoor cycling seat, you know how uncomfortable those are right? I started using this chamois creme a few years back while doing tri races. If you are prone to chafing or have sensitive skin in that area, I find this creme to be the best. I use it before indoor cycling class and always on outdoor bike rides as well. It’s also great for preventing chafing on a run. I  keep a few of the sample size packs around to throw in for races.

3. Indoor cycling shoes- Clip in cycle shoes make a huge difference in class. I find a smoother pedal stroke and a stronger push on the climbs. If you’ve been wanting to make the switch to clip in on an outdoor bike, trying them out in class is pretty risk free. You are not going to fall off your bike!

These are easy to walk around in before class

4. Mac Lip gloss– I always have a few of these stashed in my bag. “Confession”-You will rarely see me without lipgloss on. Yep I admit it-I wear lip gloss to class and on a run. A girl’s gotta look good because you never know right? My lips also get really dry and chapped so these glosses really lock in the moisture and last quite a while.

5. Moms Run This Town business cards- I always carry a stash of these cards with me to class and even on a run. I’ve been known to go up to random people to recruit them for our running group. I sometimes run after ladies on the trail and hand them info. Yep I’m that crazy girl!

Do you have any of these in your bag? What’s your must have item?

Hah! Had not heard of that Hoo Ha glide. Luckily I don’t seem to suffer too much

It is way better than body glide in my opinion and has lots of uses. In the summer my arm band rubs against my arm and this seems to work well. Have a great weekend!

I need to check out those wipes, especially going to Ragnar and no showers for 24 hours 🙂 The Hoo Ha stuff is hilarious! I am thinking about getting clip ins for my spin class, they really do make a huge difference!

      05/30/2014 at 11:55 am

The wipes are an essential. They will be in our Ragnar van too. The Hoo Ha glide is better than body glide by far and has lots of uses. Clip in shoes make all the difference indoors and out. Have a good one!

Fully understand the lip gloss ! I rarely go out without mascara and earrings.

Glad I’m not the only one who admits it! Have a good one!

Must be Karen thing! I’m right there with ya! I grew up in the South, and mascara & lipstick/lip gloss are a must!

Absolutely! Mascara and lip gloss are a must!

I’ve never heard of the “ride glide” that’s genius! I love that you chase people down to give them your card. That’s dedication. I wish we lived closer, i’d definitely be in your group..haha -M

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2014 at 12:48 pm

And we’d love to have you. There are MRTT groups all over the country check out their website. The ride glide is great for running too! Have a great weekend

  5. Nikki @ grab your kicks says

    05/30/2014 at 12:53 pm

I love that you run after ladies, haha! I’ve never heard of that “ride glide”, but I bet it’s nice to prevent chaffing! I wear longer compression shorts to prevent chaffing, but sometimes that gets hot!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2014 at 12:55 pm

ON longer bike rides it helps keep things nice in the shorts. I also use it on my arm where my phone band tends to rub. Thanks for stopping by!

I will have to check out these wipes. I would love to get my run in during the work day when it’s slow season but I have not found anything in the stores to freshen up after other then face wipes and they just don’t work well. I used to have travel cleansing cloths from Avon that were great… Just add water and the cloth soaps up. One can’t exactly bathe in the sink at work though can we? LOL
If you came running up to me on a run, I would probably be defensive… until I saw the lip gloss. Attackers don’t put on lipgloss first ;0)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2014 at 1:24 pm

The wipes are an essential I keep a pack in my car and a pack in my bag. Thanks for stopping by!

You know you are tired when….I started reading your list and at first I thought #1 said “Naughty Power Shower Wipes”. I was like what the heck and then read it again! LOL

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2014 at 2:01 pm

ooh naughty wipes I will have to look for those. LOL Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve never seen those wipes before! I have some olay ones in my bag and they just don’t seem to cut it these days. I’m with you on the lip glass situation. I like to get red lip fit!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2014 at 2:01 pm

The wipes are great and very effective. I make my son use them after lax practice too. Lip gloss rules!

    05/30/2014 at 3:01 pm

I’d actually never heard of several of your items, guess I need to expand my horizons! I’d love to try the clip on bike shoes, I’ve always been afraid of trying them on the road, so getting used to them in the gym is a great idea!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2014 at 3:42 pm

I tried to highlight some of the things that might be new to some. Thanks for stopping by!

  10. Michele @ A Pace of Balance says

    05/30/2014 at 5:39 pm

I need to look into some shower wipes. Even though I work out early in the morning and come straight home, it would be better for my skin to wipe off the sweat right away! That’s great that you carry business cards! The best way to meet runners…when you are running of course!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/30/2014 at 8:47 pm

The wipes are great for after bike rides too! I also have my son use them after lax practice

Absolutely a must have cause you never know!

  12. Erin says

I love that you carry lipgloss in your gym bag how cute. I honestly only carry much in gym bag but my sweat towel, jump rope (gym is so stingy with jump ropes).

Btw love the MRTT business cards. I’m a MRTT member too. I should tell my chapter leader about making cards for our local chapter.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/31/2014 at 7:32 pm

Nice to meet other MRTT members-I always try to recruit people everywhere. Nice that you are a minimalist!

I always keep wipes in my bag and the Hoo Ha cream is a brilliant idea (clever marketing name too)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/31/2014 at 7:30 pm

The wipes are great! I love the name too but what sold me what how well it worked. Great seeing you in Annapolis. Hope you had a great race.

  15. Jennifer says

    05/31/2014 at 9:09 pm

matching #1 and #3 in my bag! haha I’ve never heard of the ride glide – seems like a good alternative to body glide?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/31/2014 at 11:00 pm

I think it is much better than body glide personally. Sometimes you don’t want to necessarily rub the stick of body glide in certain places either. Give it a try!

I need to look into those wipes! I’d love to workout at lunch but #SweatyGirlProblems 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

love this list! that hoo ha glide sounds amazing! i definitely need to buy some — do you just order it or is it in stores? also, i LOVED seeing you this weekend 🙂 great race!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/01/2014 at 2:17 am

I originally bought it in a bike store but you can get it on Amazon as well. Great seeing you this weekend too. You had such a big smile on your face every time I saw you. It was a fun race-hope to be back to the half next year

  18. Cynthia @ You Signed Up For WHAT?! says

    06/01/2014 at 3:32 am

Ooh, MRTT business cards! I’m about to print flyers for our new chapter and hadn’t thought about business cards. I have shower wipe things that I use but I’m out so maybe I’ll try your kind!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/01/2014 at 2:27 pm

the business cards are great. I leave them everywhere and they are easy to carry around and hand out. #MRTT love

  19. Momshomerun says

    06/01/2014 at 9:47 am

The fact that you wear lip gloss during your work out made me smile! I can’t even be bothered to wear any make up as a mom, let alone a runner. But I can definitely appreciate someone who goes to more trouble than I do!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/01/2014 at 2:24 pm

Every little bit helps! Thanks for stopping by!

  20. Heather Runs Thirteen Point One says

I love MAC makeup, but for working out I stick with plain old Chapstick. I wouldn’t be able to stand the gloss getting on my water bottle, which is just a weird pet peeve I think haha. I’m going to look into those wipes (I have a brand that works well, but I always like to try new things too see which is actually best).

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/04/2014 at 1:48 am

Interesting-I don’t think the Mac gloss comes off on my water. The wipes are great and a must for sweaty classes or runs. Thanks for popping over!
