Sweet and Spicy Apple Jicama Slaw
A welcome addition to any summer BBQ or easy side dish to accompany your dinner. This tangy and Spicy Apple Jicama Slaw is sure to be a hit on your dinner table. Too hot to cook? I’ve got you.
What is Jicama? Where do I find it?
Jicama, found widely at most grocery stores, is a root vegetable that is low in carbs. High in vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, and fiber, jicama is a tasty nutritious to any salad.
Tell me about that dressing
I love a light, zippy and flavorful dressing on my slaw, and this Sweet and Spicy Apple Jicama Slaw has a fruity base of lime and lemon juice. I use a little bit of honey for sweetness and if you like a little kick, I am kind of obsessed with this “hot honey”.
How to adjust the spiciness
The sweet and spicy combination is one of my favorites to do for salads. If you are not into spicy, just decrease the jalapeño to a 1/2 instead of whole pepper. Using the hot honey also gives a nice little kick that everyone will love. Vegan and Gluten-free. Hope you all enjoy this quick and easy Sweet and Spicy Apple Jicama Slaw. What’s your “have to make one more time before summer ends” recipe?

What a great last BBQ recipe! I love apple and jicama in slaw.
Thanks I love the sweetness of the apples to counteract the spicy
I love that little kick! This looks fresh and delicious. I’m so ready for the fall I don’t need any more summer recipes!
I am right there with you. Can’t wait for soups
Another delicious recipe. I love apples but never heard of jicama.
I think you would love this one and it’s so easy. NO actual cooking required 🙂
I love this twist on cole slaw. We use jicama in some of our slaw recipes too. It’s a great crunch!
I enjoy different textures in salads and yes jicama is a good one
I’ve heard of Jicama but have never cooked it before. This looks so delicious!
You don’t have to cook it-it goes right into the salads raw and gives a nice little crunch. I like different textures in my foods
I love the refreshing crunch of jicama and this giant pile of slaw looks delicious! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks it does give a nice crunch to salads!
Yum, this sounds delicious! I’ve never heard of hot honey before. I’ll have to look into that.
It’s basically a little spicy added to honey but it’s so good 🙂
I have never had Jicama but I keep hearing really good things about it.
Oh it’s a yummy way to add a little texture to your salads
This looks yummy — and not too difficult to make, either! I may have to try this!
Could not be easier! NO actual cooking required 🙂
Yum! I love all the colors in this. It’s been awhile since I bought jicama.
It really adds a nice crunch to salads
I’ve seen that hot honey pop up a few places recently. It seems like everyone who tries it absolutely loves it. Is it more of a sweet or hot flavor would you say?
It is an interesting blend of both spicy and sweet. I often use it to saute tofu. It gives a nice crispy coating
Okay, I am not a cole slaw person, at all, but this sounds great with all those apples! I don’t think I’ve ever had jicama LOL (I know you’re surprised)
Nope you never surprise me 🙂 xoxo
This looks delicious. I love adding jicama to random dishes for the crunch. Something just works.
Mom has a pasta salad recipe with ramen, jicama. So perfect.
Well that sounds good too!
OK not exactly pasta salad, but that’s how I always remember it https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/187963/chinese-broccoli-slaw/
Sugar may be problematic if you eat more vegan, but assume possible to owrk around it
I have a similar recipe I used to make. You can totally cut out all that sugar and it’s still delish!
This sounds super full of crunch and flavor. What’s not to love?!
Thanks so much!
I love how apples also add a touch of sweetness and crunch to what could otherwise be a boring dish.
Yes I definitely agree!
Looks like the perfect side dish for a barbeque!
Thanks hope you give it a try sometime
LOVE the colour and crunch in this salad! Looks amazing
Thanks so much. I like different textures in my salads as well
Oh, that does look tasty!
Thanks so much!
I think jicama is so underrated. I love the crunch if brings!
Well, I agree! 🙂
This would be absolutely perfect with a BBQ dish – I know that you’re a vegetarian, but we just got the most amazing rub at a farmer’s market and I bet this would be a fabulous complement to anything cooked in that seasoning.
Thanks for sharing!
Definitely! Go for it and let me know how you like it
That looks like a great lunch recipe that I can food prep and enjoy all week long! Yum!
Yes indeed!
I can’t believe this but I don’t think I’ve ever used jicama at home! I’ve had it out at restaurants and on vacation, but I never have bought it to make something. I need to try this out and change that!
They sell it now already cut up and ready to go. Super easy!
Your recipes always look so yummy! We used the bagged cabbage quite a bit. I love the additon of the applies and jicama!
They are a nice change of pace and thanks 🙂
This looks amazing, and I just finished a whole big bowl of slaw! I would make this tomorrow if they had at jicama at the store this week. They were out before vacation and again this week so hope they get it back soon.
Wow, this looks pretty delicious and also refreshing. Question, if I do not find jicama, what can I substitute it with?
I would say maybe some carrots or celery for the crunch
