Momentum over perfection

Building habits now lets you start small and gain momentum, so you’re not overwhelmed by “all or nothing” January vibes.

Holiday Survival Mode

Starting now means you can enjoy the holiday season with balance, not guilt, and avoid the “I will fix it later” trap.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

This post deserves to be read by so many people! You make an excellent point—why wait until January to start building good habits? Overindulging in food, drink, and endless couch time won’t bring us happiness, but nurturing our body and mind certainly will.

I think this is true, but I can also see how it could be really hard to start healthy habits right now. It is such a busy time of year and honestly if I already didn’t have a routine in place the workouts wouldn’t be happening!

I thrive on a routine as well. My overall points are that taking the time to give yourself the gift of exercise and wellness can only help with the stress of the holidays

The best time to start is always right now, but I get how some people need that mental touchstone to get them revved up and going.

Whenever you start chasing those goals,it’s always a good time!

never a bad time to start or reassess

While the new year is always a time when people decide to begin their fitness journey, I do try to encourage them to start early. Why wait?
