Hello Summer! Thanks for joining me and Kim for the weekly run down. Summer is roaring in with a vengeance bringing an early heat wave. Yay. Here’s a peak into my week of fitness and fun.
Hello Summer Weekly Run Down
Sunday- 3 mile power walk
I woke up a little later than planned and it was already toasty out there. A 3 mile power walk it was. Later, lounged around the pool on a perfect summer day with my son and husband. We all went over to my parent’s house to celebrate Father’s Day with them and my sister & family.
Monday-30 min peloton hike + upper & lower body strength + core + stretch
Started off with a 30 min Peloton hike on the tread. Have I mentioned how much I love these? Day 2 of JJ’s split is back and biceps and yes I did feel those. These classes were lots of reps that definitely took me to muscle failure (in a good way).
Tuesday-3 ish mile run + Pilates and stretch
Oh Hello summer! The heat is on. You all know how much I struggle with humidity and thus today had lots of walk breaks. But, we got it done.
In case you missed it-check out my hot summer running hack

Wednesday-Peloton hike + lower body strength & core + lap swimming
After sleeping until 8:30 this morning, I was full of energy and ready to take on the day. I completed day 3 of my split with JJ which was legs and core. Oof that 4th round! I also decided it was the day to return to lap swimming and oh it was fantastic. Take that summer heat wave!
Thursday- 3mile run/walk + core + stretch + swim
Marking the first day of summer with a sweaty and shorter run (with lots of walk breaks). We finished with a jump in the pool to cool off.
Friday- Peloton hike + upper body strength + yoga and stretch + lap swimming
It was a busy day over here celebrating International yoga day, selfie day and first full day of summer. Later, I learned it was also smoothie day! Wow what an important day! LOL. I am on week 2 of JJ’s split so today was upper body push. My triceps are screaming! Later, it was back to the pool for some laps with a friend.
Last but not least on this milestone day, I finally hit my 10K on Peloton.
Saturday- Pool running class and stretch
It was way too hot for me to run outside today. Instead, I pulled out my Fluid Running belt and cued up a class in the pool. I had forgotten how great they were and lots of core work too. It’s over 100 today and I am not a fan!
It was a hot first few days of summer! I had “play dates” with friends everyday at my pool which made it a lot more bearable. Hope you are surviving the start to summer.

You are so lucky to have that pool!!! Which Fluid Running class did you do? I’m still pool running weekly, but indoors. The outdoor pool is open, but not early enough to accommodate my schedule, lol. This summer weather is nuts. I can’t wait to see what’s coming our way this week–lol
Deborah Brooks says
I ended up doing a refresher class bc I had forgotten how the moves went. It also had core and some upper body so it was really nice. I am sure I will get another one this week. It’s been fab having the pool yes and oh so relaxing on these hot days. My invite is still there for you to visit!
Marcia says
Lots of pool time is the best way to beat this crazy heat! Now I’m wondering where my water flotation belt is…
Deborah Brooks says
Ha I had to look around for mine but I found it! Highly recommend:)
Kimberly Hatting says
Nice consistent week! The pool is a great “coping vice” to have this time of year 😉 I hear ya on all the JJ DOMS! My glutes are on fire as I type…
Deborah Brooks says
I honestly was so surprised about how sore I was from his classes bc I have been doing lots of Rebecca. Always good to mix it up
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I’m very jealous of your pool. We had a hot week. And crazy storms.
Deborah Brooks says
The pool has been great we may hit 100 again today ick!
Debbie says
Oh my gosh, I couldn’t believe how hot it got and how fast! This is the time of the year that I’m thankful I’ve got outdoor cycling because it’s so much cooler on the bike than running or walking. Stay cool!
Deborah Brooks says
biking was always much better than running for me in the summertime too. Stay cool out there
Deborah Brooks says
PS my comments are probably stuck in your spam again they won’t go through
Coco says
The definitely was a good week to be in the pool!
Love your summer hack. Back in the day my son had a summer of lacrosse tournaments when the weather was like this. We got packs of towels from Costco and kept them in a cooler of ice water on the sidelines. It really helps you cool off!
Deborah Brooks says
yes those cold towels are the best after a hot workout. It’s crazy how hot it was
Catrina says
Well done, Deborah! So nice of you to invite your running buddies to your pool. I bet they loved it!
Wait, you didn’t celebrate smoothie day with a special smoothie?? *gasp* 😉
Deborah Brooks says
we all loved it! Truth-I am not a smoothie person-I would rather eat my food than drink it
Catrina says
Ha! I totally get that! I’m not a smoothie person either for the same reason! 😀
Deborah Brooks says
They just don’t do it for me!
Jenny says
Oh that’s funny- we both did some pool running this week! You seem much more cheerful about it than I was, ha ha. I’m sure it would help pass the time if I had actual workouts, rather than making up my own. Somehow I’m resisting that because I keep telling myself that I won’t be pool running for very long (I’d rather run outside in 100 degree heat that run in the pool!)
I hope your heat wave subsides- it can’t last forever!
Deborah Brooks says
The actual workouts are really great and distracting. Hope you can try them sometime
Melissa says
yay for beating the heat in the pool. love that you not only did laps but got in a pool running day! nice week!
Deborah Brooks says
yes best way to deal with the heat
San says
Oof, it’s been pretty hot here too but at least it’s dry heat… I don’t envy the humidity that you’re dealing with. At least you have access to a pool to cool off!
Congratulations on 10k Peloton minutes! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
the humidity is a real killer for sure! The pool has been great
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Hooray for pool life! I will admit that I went swimming after a garage sale day this week and fell asleep on a raft floating around. LOL! It sure did feel good 🙂 You have inspired me to look into pool running. Not sure it is a good fit for me, but I’ll try anything to maintain some fitness and sanity. Great job getting your workouts done in the heat this week!
Deborah Brooks says
Relaxing on a raft does is also very nice. Check out Fluid Running it was designed by an injured triathlete. She is very accessible too if you email her
Jessie says
How lovely to have the pool on these crazy hot days! That must feel so nice after a run. Great week Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
It sure is refreshing!
Jenn says
So much incredible pool time! How fun!
I didn’t get to the beach last week due to storms, but I’m hoping I can get there this week. Fingers crossed.
You always have such a great variety of activities. It’s absolute goals!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! Hope your weather clears and you can get to the beach. A little beach the is good for the soul
