Summer Confessions and Runfessions

It is time for a few sweaty summer confessions and runfessions. Let’s get right to it, shall we? Thanks to Marcia for hosting.

Runfessions

Summer confessions and runfessions

I confess and runfess…

This is about the time of the summer that I start to really question my decision to run an October half marathon. Back in March and April when I was feeling like a rockstar, crushing those races and basking in the cool spring temps, I must have been delirious. The heat and humidity really get to me and I have to cut the length and intensity of my runs. While I am aware that this is normal and expected, it is still anxiety provoking every summer. That October half marathon will be here before I know it!

I confess and runfess…

On our recent trip to France, I quickly realized how useless my high school French was. I, of course, thought I had some great phrases cued up! Every time I tried to express them to a waiter, for example, they would just answer me back in English. LOL. So much for that! At least in Italy I just stuck with pizza, gelato, and pasta words! Everyone understands food words!

I confess and runfess…

I started using the apple menstrual cycle tracker a few years back to monitor my ever changing monthly schedules. Sometimes, I have no idea when I am going to start my cycle and I will randomly get a notification like this one.

Wouldn’t you know it, the tracker has learned my body and it is pretty accurate. While it is nice to know it is arriving, I am not sure I always appreciate the information! Does anyone else use the apple tracker for this? Thoughts?

That’s all I’ve got to confess and runfess today! See you next week for the Ultimate Coffee Date with me and Coco.

I also have an October half and I’m not even training, so there’s that. At least the heat is a training tool in itself…am I right?

No need for a period tracker here! Not sure if that’s a win, tho… :p

well, I am also banking on the heat being a training tool and we will both somehow snap back into it when the heat subsides. 🙂

You will totally snap back when the weather cools! See now I found my French to be valuable in France. I think the French are so much nicer when you at least make the effort to speak their language.

I did try to speak French but I think they have a little attitude over there! I did way better in Italy 🙂 I prefer the food there too

No, two years of high school french did not help me in Paris! I’m sure the Parisians were smirking at my feeble attempts.
Wow, that apple tracker could have really helped me out in my late 40s when I had NO IDEA when my period would be arriving. What a cool tool!
I agree with Wendy- heat training is good, and you’ll see the results in the fall. You will be fine!

I sure hope so bc this summer running is rough!
It is nice to know when it is coming but still unwelcome 🙂

I used to have an app to track my periods, but during perimenopause they were extremely erratic & I never knew when I’d get them. It was really frustrating.

I didn’t take French, but I did learn a few words before I went to Paris & it actually did come in useful a few times! Once I was able to tell her that the earrings I wanted were on the left in French. But most everyone does speak English!

My cycle is starting to get erratic so it is helpful to track it. I think the French are just a little snooty when they think your French accent is not authentic 🙂 I found the Italians to be way nicer

Too late for me with the period tracker but it would have been handy back in the day.

Fortunately I am fluent in French and I love speaker to the French.

I went to Russia several times and I know zero Russian and no one there spoke English. Luckily they provided translators for us.

Let me know if you need to come on your next trip to France lol

I will sure keep you in mind! To be honest I really prefer Italy over France!

I often wonder how useful my limited Spanish is. When we were in Cancun for our honeymoon (ages ago, LOL), I tried telling the housekeeper that our room was dirty…and she apparently thought my Spanish was on-point, because she rattled a response to me so fast (and so many words) that I had no idea what can of worms I’d just opened. She was very friendly, so I think she was being helpful and not shaming me, LOL.

      07/30/2022 at 7:03 am

Ha yes, sometimes they answer back so fast and I had no idea what they were talking about!

yes, October half marathon….it’s humid and hot hear…but a couple just came into our store yesterday, she was due on July 22nd…..so, it’s all about perspective
funny story, I was in Vancouver a while back, noticed a lot of German tourists, sent my German bother in-law a text, asking him ‘how to say hello in German’….I can’t remember the phrase he sent me, but it literally translated into ‘how do you say hello on German’……I got a lot of strange looks

      ha ha that is funny!

I use the tracker on GarminConnect. I like it because if it wasn’t for that then I would know when to expect it either. I’ve never been to France but one day would like to go to Paris.

I hope you make it to Paris sometime soon!

I had that problem in Montreal. Partially because Quebecois is different, but also because textbook language isnt so helpful. And yes yes yes on summer running. The break in the temps makes me feel like a beast though.
It’s eerie how accurate the Apple app is. Sometimes the time window is way off though. Like ten days. Not so helpful. In the TMI field but usually breast tenderness and app are close. Grateful for a backup warning system

Yes, I do still appreciate having the warning reminder to prepare!
