Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down today. Last week I was sweating my butt off with summer humidity and heat and then all of the sudden, hello fall weather. Fall is most definitely my favorite time around here. I am reading to start easing back into regular running and getting my body back into running shape. Being in cycling shape is quite different from running shape! Also Happy New Year to my Jewish friends and family!
Hello Fall Weather
Monday- 20 min core + 20 min glutes/legs + 30 min cycle
Decided to take a break from the power zone this week and just hit some hard classes. Mixed it up by doing my strength first.
Tuesday-20min cycle + yoga for hips + 20 min full body strength
I am enjoying doing shorter strength workouts with more frequency during the week instead of doing longer ones 3x a week. In case you missed it, I shared my Matzo Ball Ramen soup it’s a must try!
Wednesday- scheduled rest day
Thursday- Peloton Bike Boot Camp 45 min
I have been waiting for this forever and it did not disappoint. The new Bike Boot camp classes are everything I hoped. Sweating everywhere in a good way.
Friday- 4 mile run/walk intervals + 10 m core + 10 min glute strength
Taking it slow and easing back into running. Hip is feeling good. Wow I am so not in running shape right now. Intervals are working well just need to be patient. Not one of my virtues but I am determined not to get injured again. Nice to run with a friend again too.
Saturday-30 min Bike boot camp + 20 min 70’s ride + 2 mile walk
Only a few classes have been released so far and I was itching to try another!
Sunday- on the plan 4 miles run/walk intervals
Sunday Runday! Back out there on a gorgeous fall weather morning with a few of my BRFs. We also saw DC Celeb Dr. Faucci out there walking with his wife. Mask on of course 🙂
I am hosting a new round of RunBet challenge next Monday the 28th. It is 4 runs/walks per week 30 min each at a min of 18mm. Perfect for walks or runs. The more the merrier! Want to join me? Register here on the website first then head to the app. Let me know if you have questions.
I had a lot of questions about the 2 week yoga for hips challenge that I just completed. The studio is offering another round starting the 28th. If you are interested in joining me register here and use my discount code (DBROOKS15) for 15% off. It’s a great deal and a nice way to support a local small business.
That’s about it in my fitness world. Up tomorrow my new Vegan Pumpkin Chipotle Chili don’t miss it. Who else is saying hello to fall weather?

We had a nice summer-rewind last week, but Fall is definitely here this morning (can you say 47F???). I’ll take it over snow/ice and rain LOL Happy New Year to you and the family 😉
Deborah Brooks says
It was about that temp here this morning as well. My favorite season!
Liz Dexter says
It’s been quite sunny here this week but is plunging again on Wednesday, apparently. Good strong work from you again!
Deborah Brooks says
The nice weather really does help doesn’t it?!
Wendy says
I am loving the weather we’re having this week! It is beautiful. I want to make that soup. Looks yummy. Happy New Year!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks and enjoy your weather!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Happy New Year! That smile on your face says it all! Glad the return to running it going well for you.
Way back when I first looked at bootcamps, I wanted one that was cycling! So I’d just cycle instead of run — I’ll check them out at some point, I’m sure. As it cools off I definitely enjoy running outside a whole lot more!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes the cooler temps are a gift!
Kim G says
Awesome job on your workouts this week! Secretly, I’m happy that the Discover your Power Zones training will end for me next week. I definitely see the advantage of the program, and I’ll still take some PZ classes, but I much prefer the regular cycle classes!
Deborah Brooks says
Same! I am not really enjoying them at all unfortunately.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Hey, I know it must feel like you have a long way to go on the running, but you’ve made so much progress on your injury. I’m certain that you’ll have some good fall runs and meet your goal of no injury.
I’m jealous of your Fauci sighting! Huge fan and it doesn’t hurt that he’s a runner;-)
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I sure hope so!
Darlene says
Happy new year.
You are right. I biked today. Harder than running. Totally different muscles.
Glad you are able to return to running too
Deborah Brooks says
Happy new year to you as well. Biking and running are so different-of course I want to be good at both of them
Melissa says
Great work outs and yay for getting back into running shape! It is starting to get fall-like here suddenly (it was 45 when i went out fo r my run this morning!!) but I don’t mind it for running. For everything else, I’m not a fan. I love the 80 degree days and just soaking up the warmth. I’m sipping up hot water right now, that’s how cold I am even though it’s 66 out now 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Yes everyone thought it was so cold this morning and I was doing a happy dance!
Michelle D. says
So nice to see you back at running! I hope your hip continues to cooperate.
Happy New Year!
Deborah Brooks says
Me too thanks!
Courtenay Brinckerhoff says
That soup looks so yummy — and it sure feels like soup weather today! Now I’m jealous of the new Peloton Bike Bootcamps! Glad you are liking them. Did you see the announcement about barre classes too? Those are not my jam, but I might make myself try one.
Deborah Brooks says
I am not usually a barre person it kind of bugs my back but we shall see. Enjoy this weather
Zenaida Arroyo says
Glad to see you getting back to running. I know you’ve gone through a lot and hopefully you will be healthy and injury free.
How awesome that you saw Dr. Fauci!!!
Fall weather is here – I am loving it!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks so much I hope so too!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Sounds like you are taking the right steps to not get injured again. Good to see you running! It’s humbling starting over again isn’t it? Bike bootcamp sounds fun!
Deborah Brooks says
OH so humbling!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I love fall weather and am so excited for us to get our first round of it this week! It’ll be down to the low 70s/high 60s in the early mornings here!
That chili recipe sounds good I’ll have to bookmark it to try. Love anything pumpkin flavored!
Deborah Brooks says
That sounds great and yes please check back tomorrow for the chili post
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
The cooler weather felt great for running this weekend! I am not ready for it to get much colder than this though:) So glad the hip is feeling good just in time for fall running weather!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks me too!
Jessie says
Oh, wow, that’s so cool you walk/ran by/with Fauci!! So fun. What a great week! I am glad the hip is feeling better.
Deborah Brooks says
Fingers crossed it stays feeling good
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Yes, hello fall! I’m learning to dress for cycling in the cooler weather. It’s very different than running, but I’ve learned that layering is still the trick. Thank goodness for all the pockets!
Thanks for the linkup and have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
It is so different!
Jenn says
Tonight might be a good night for that matzoh ball ramen soup. It’s in the low 70s and we have the windows open. I might wear jeans today!
Cycling shape is a whole different beast than running shape. I think we are going on a family ride this weekend, so I need to mentally prepare.
Deborah Brooks says
Hope you like the soup! Have fun on your bike ride you got this
