Thanks for joining Kim and Me for the Weekly Run Down today. I finally feel like I am settled into the new year and cruising into January. Running recovery is coming along nicely and I am feeling hopeful that I can get back up to speed soon. Here’s a peek at my week in workouts.
Cruising into January
Monday- 40 minutes Peloton cycle + 60 min strength training
Felt good to get back with my trainer after a few weeks apart. I was ready to start the week off strong.
Tuesday- 3.5 mile run + 10 min Peloton + 1 hr hot yoga
I upped my intervals to 4:1 and was feeling good for the 3.3 mile run. A quick Peloton cool down ride and afternoon hot yoga. We had our first “snow event” here in DC. Everyone went nuts over about an inch of snow and the Federal Government closed. It’s crazy!
Wednesday- 50 min Peloton + 90 min ST and 3 mile afternoon walk
Ready to hit it hard today and had lots of energy for some reason. When friends suggested an afternoon walk, I was all in.
Thursday- 3.5 mile run + 800 Meter swim
The coldest day we have had in a long time! Bundled up and got it done. One of my January goals is to get back to swimming once a week. I just signed up for a Sprint Tri at the end up May. It’s been a few years but I am excited to get back into it.
Had the pool all to myself!
Friday- 45 min Strength training group with friends and 35 min Peloton
Pedaling my way towards #200 classes on Peloton.
Saturday- 5 mile run and 3 mile walk
After such a cold day on Thursday, we were gifted a little summer today. I am so happy to be feeling so much better running. My 5 mile run (with intervals) felt good. I also completed a 3 mile walk afterwards. I am thinking about using this strategy in New Orleans in a few weeks.
Sunday- Rest Day
Soup club swap is this afternoon and I am looking forward to sharing my recipe with you all tomorrow. Don’t miss Meatless Monday tomorrow.
The week ahead: I am pedaling toward that big #200 Peloton class and plan to take it live at the New York Studio on Friday. I also plan to casually run into “my Denis” at his Peloton Yoga class next Sunday in NYC. Should be a fun few days up there. Thanks for joining. How are you cruising into January?
Catrina says
Oh, you signed up for a sprint tri! So exciting! I have signed up for one in April and I haven’t been in the pool for ages. I don’t like swimming and really have to force myself.
Love all your happy group photos! So nice to be training with a group of good friends.
Deborah Brooks says
I keep reminding myself that the swim is the shortest part. Mixing up my workouts keeps me in better shape usually. happy training
Liz Dexter says
What a good week – hooray! I thought it was only the UK that panicked when there’s a scattering of snow, though! It was super-windy yesterday and as I am about to get ready for my long run, I hope that’s died down. Good luck for your 200th Peleton!
Deborah Brooks says
Everyone totally freaks out in DC when it snows!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Another great week for you! Love seeing you do so many different activities. Excited for your Spring Tri!!! Oh talk about crazy weather with snow one day and then summer another day. Haha!! You are unstoppable!
Deborah Brooks says
I am excited to start training for the tri. I do better when I mix up my workouts and not just run
Marcia says
It’s crazy how erratic the weather has been everywhere this year. It’s even crazier how quickly the gov’t shut down for weather. Shame on them. I love that you put a tri on your calendar! I’m jelly of that empty pool!
Deborah Brooks says
The empty pool was a nice gift! I am excited to start training for the tri races again. It will be good for me
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m in a soup mode as well..making chicken tortilla soup (for the first time), and kind of winging it LOL I found a few recipes, and I’m “doing it my way”…what could go wrong? 🙂 I didn’t realize it’s been two years since your last tri…it’ll be fun to follow your training!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s pretty hard to mess up soup-you got this enjoy! I am excited to do a tri again too. Think you will ever tri one?
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
“the swim is the shortest part” – that’s a good way to think about it! I hadn’t thought about it that way before. I haven’t committed to any tris or dus yet this year. I only have one race on my calendar, and technically I haven’t even signed up for that yet! I do have a case of “dragging the feet” I believe 🙂 . Looks like a lot of nice social runs this week for you. That’s great!
Deborah Brooks says
there were a bunch of nice social runs this week. My favorite kind!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
You’re making a great comeback with your running. Congrats on signing up for a sprint tri!
You are going to have so much fun next week in NYC! I hope you’re able to take Denis’ class for your 200th ride – wouldn’t that be amazing? I can’t wait to read all about your trip!
Deborah Brooks says
I am feeling so much better w running again thanks. Looks like I will take a yoga w Denis next weekend as his cycle times don’t match up for me.
Coco says
Oooh, I like your plans for this weekend! I am so glad your running comeback is working! We were going to drive home from Delaware Tuesday afternoon until we saw the Fed Gov closing, so we stayed one more night — and then drove through snow squalls in Delaware Wednesday morning! This weekend weather is nuts!
Deborah Brooks says
I am excited about our NY trip for sure. Crazy crazy weather this week!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
OMG, having the pool to myself would be heavenly! Lucky you!
I have run many, many halfs using intervals. Almost all of them in fact. You cover the same distance & you get the same medal. 🙂
Good luck nailing that 200th Peloton before NYC — I bet you do it!
Deborah Brooks says
Having the pool to myself was a really nice gift. I am thinking about going forward with the half if I continue to have pain free runs.
Laurie says
As I was reading your weekly workouts, I was wondering if you ever take a rest day!!! Glad to see you took it easy on Sunday. I love your tights from your Tuesday photo! Good luck with the tri and also with “your Denis”! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I do make sure to take a day off it’s either Sun or Sat depending on what’s going on. I realized as I wrote my post this week, that I really did a lot this week.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Oh my goodness, your week makes me so happy! Injuries are never fun but I think it’s safe to say that you’re firmly in comeback territory. You’re killing it AND you signed up for a tri!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I am all of the sudden feeling so much better. Fingers crossed I can keep the momentum going
Kim G says
Awesome job on all of your workouts this week, and I love that you are getting back into swimming to train for a Sprint Trip this year!
Deborah Brooks says
I am really excited about it too. I am in better shape when I mix up my workouts a lot.
Darlene says
Crazy weather – winter…summer..winter.
I think I’ll be in NYC next Saturday and Sunday…for a half marathon in Central Park…. unless mi is raining or my foot feels worse.
Where are you staying?
Deborah Brooks says
Ok let me message you!
melissa says
good luck with the tri training! my husband did one a few years ago and it was so windy that they ended up making it a semi-biathlon and had to cancel the swim part. he was disappointed so i’m sure there’s another one in his future; he has a hard time training with the two little ones we have. i don’t know how to ride a bike, so i have a little more work to do if i wanted to do one!
Deborah Brooks says
It sure is hard to train for one w little kids. It’s very time consuming for sure
Jessie says
Excited your sprint tri! Swimming isn’t so bad, but it often feels like a process (to me); finding time at the pool with lap swim that works for my schedule, all the swim gear and shower gear- can’t walk outside with wet hair this time of year! But I also enjoy it when I am done.
Awesome week and glad your running is feeling great!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes even going for a short swim takes so much time and logistics. Yes running is slowly coming back I am really happy
Wendy says
I’m so glad that things are going so well for you! Looking forward to hearing about your meet up with Denis!
Deborah Brooks says
I just hope I don’t go all fan girl nervous in front of him again!
Michelle D. says
Sounds like you’re cruising to a good start to the year! And, yay for a sprint tri – how exciting!
Deborah Brooks says
I am feeling a lot better about my running thankfully!
Hannah says
Good to hear the lengthening run intervals are going well! Sounds like you have a lot of fun planned for next week.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks me too!
Cari says
Can’t wait to see you next weekend
This weather was completely ridiculous to both extremes.
When was the last time you wore a tank and beanie in the same week, save for a mid week vacation? Snow event makes me laugh too — didn’t we used to just call them storms. And they didn’t have names
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha I know it was so funny to look at my photos from the week. Yes it will be fun to meet up!
angela @ happy fit mama says
Good for you for committing to hitting the pool this winter. I swore I would still swim once I was back to running after an injury a few years ago. Ummmmmm…I didn’t keep that promise. Maybe I need to revisit that? 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Once I get into swimming I really do enjoy it. It’s just a big time commitment in the winter time especially
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Isn’t is crazy how much the weather changed this week? So glad you’ve been feeling good. That’s exciting that you are doing a tri this spring!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am so happy that I am feeling better. I am excited to get back to tri races too
Laura says
That’s great how well your return to running is going! Run-walk intervals are so effective. A sprint tri will be an exciting challenge – and all those Peloton workouts will really benefit you!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks and I sure hope so!
Chaitali says
Sounds like a good week! How cool that you had the pool to yourself for that swim. That’s exciting news about the sprint tri 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It was a nice gift to have the pool to myself! Excited about the tri
Jenn says
You are absolutely rocking those Peloton workouts!
Love that you are back in the pool. I almost wouldn’t mind swimming again (although I don’t have an indoor pool to fall back on right now), because it would feel like I was doing SOMETHING productive.
I am excited for your sprint tri!
Deborah Brooks says
That might be really great for your recovery if you can find a spot to swim.
Shathiso says
Yay!! I’m so pleased that you’re feeling so good running now! Always such a relief after an injury. Love that you’ve signed up for a Sprint Tri – I would love to do that one day. We have a Super Sprint Tri in Town in September… maybe I should think of registering…!
Deborah Brooks says
I am feeling a lot better thanks! Yes do it sign up for the tri
Renée says
I haven’t quite started crushing January yet 😀 but YOU have! some great miles and workouts last week! I’m excited about your triathlon too! whoo hoo! Looking forward to hear about your NYC Peloton trip!
Deborah Brooks says
I am trying really hard to get back to my regular running schedule it’s not easy
Jessie says
I have to chuckle that the government shut down over an inch of snow 🙂 Too funny.
So glad your running is feeling good lately- awesome week!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh yes we do not do snow around here
