Weekly Wrap Strong Start to the New Year

This week just completely flew by and here I am writing another Weekly Wrap to sum it all up. Joining in with Wendy and Hoho to share my week in workouts. After the holidays, I was ready to get back on track and keep up my strong start to the new year. This week, I had lots of fun trying new Peloton classes both on and off of the bike. Here is a peek at my week.

Table of Contents

Toggle
  • Strong start to the new year
    • Sunday- 10 min restorative yoga
    • Monday- 30 min Peloton bike, 1 hr strength training, 30 m afternoon walk
    • Tuesday- 4 mile run + 5 min Peloton stretch class
    • Wednesday- 90 m strength training/boxing + 5 min peloton glutes stretch
    • Thursday- 3 mile run + Peloton 5 min post run stretch x2
    • Friday- 45 min pop 2K Peloton ride + 5 min stretch class
    • Saturday- 5 ish mile run to Georgetown, DC + 2 5min post run Peloton stretch classes

Strong start to the new year

Sunday- 10 min restorative yoga

While technically a rest day for me, I did a 10 minute Peloton restorative yoga class right before bed. I definitely slept well and will be doing this one again more often.

Monday- 30 min Peloton bike, 1 hr strength training, 30 m afternoon walk

I was ready to keep up my strong start and hit it hard today. I am in a “Run Bet” challenge that requires me to do 4 runs/walks per week to stay in. Since I normally run 3 days a week, I wanted to get in one good walk just to be safe.

Tuesday- 4 mile run + 5 min Peloton stretch class

Trying to add back in some hills to our run (why?). My first 2 miles tend to be challenging and then I am getting a second wind mile 3.

strong start

Wednesday- 90 m strength training/boxing + 5 min peloton glutes stretch

My trainer just killed me today! Lots of deadlifts and squats and abs. Yep that’s gonna hurt!

strong start

Thursday- 3 mile run + Peloton 5 min post run stretch x2

Not only was the wind howling today, but I was so sore from yesterday’s workout! Made it through with the help of my friends. Forcing myself to do the Peloton 5 min post run stretches is really helpful. I tend to “forget” to stretch.

strong start

Friday- 45 min pop 2K Peloton ride + 5 min stretch class

Sang my heart out on the bike today at the top of my lungs. It was absolutely perfect. Love me some Britney and NSYNC.

strong start

Saturday- 5 ish mile run to Georgetown, DC + 2 5min post run Peloton stretch classes

Even though we live so close to DC, we rarely run there. Today, we ran into Georgetown to one of our favorite bakeries. All great runs end up in a bakery right? “Running more efficiently than the government”

I realize now looking back at my week that I may have over done it a bit! I am proud of my strong start for the new year but may dial it back a bit this week. Hope you had a great week! Don’t forget to check back in tomorrow for my Meatless Monday recipe.

strong start

I have always wanted a peloton! Do you love it? Maybe santa will bring me one next year!

I have to say I am absolutely adoring it and perhaps over doing it a bit too because it is so convenient. So good and bad 🙂

Definitely a strong week for you! Thanks for the tip about the yoga class before going to bed – I might try that and see if it helps me sleep better.

Good luck with the RunBet challenge! I haven’t done RunBet yet, just StepBet.

I’ve been loving exploring different Peloton classes this week because of the Winter challenge.

Thanks for getting me on board with the winter challenge. It’s been great to explore different classes and forcing me to do one everyday. the Runbet is going well and less stressful than the step bet. 🙂

I had a similar thought about over-doing it (the cardio) when I looked back at my week, too. But I like cardio! I figure as long as all the cardio is not via running, I’m giving myself some leeway 😉

      01/13/2019 at 2:16 pm

I think my runs were tougher this week bc my legs were a little burnt out from spinning and walking more. I am ok with that because, like you, I feel good.

You’re looking really strong too! Starting off strong always feels really good, doesn’t it? I may have slacked just a bit this week . . . there just never seems to be enough hours in the day!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 4:22 pm

Thanks I am feeling strong albeit a little sore!

I hope your back is OK and that you aren’t shoveling snow today! Wish I could have joined your run yesterday, but it was moving day for my son …. Run hills so you can do the Reston 10 Miler with me! Or the 10K of it! I have a Race Pas 4-pack to share ….

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 7:05 pm

No shoveling for me just a little snow shoeing and way too much eating and football watching. My calves still get sore from hills but working on it. I am going to do for the love 10K in a few weeks

Wow, you had a lot going on this week. I don’t think anyone every felt bad about doing too much but perhaps they would about not doing enough! You had a great week Deborah!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 7:06 pm

I tend to do over do it sometimes and then things hurt. Just have to be careful about that 🙂

Britney and NSYNC always get me singing too. And yes, ending runs at bakeries absolutely make them great! Can’t wait to see what you put out for Meatless Monday!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 7:07 pm

It is so much fun to sing when no one can hear you! I have another tasty grain bowl for meatless Monday see you there

  8. Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says

Britney and N*SYNC are the best for working out! Gotta love their catchy tunes

    • Deborah Brooks says

Always fun to sing along too for sure

  9. Marcia says

    01/13/2019 at 6:52 pm

Hooray for a strong week! You killed it! I don’t know how you can run the day after such a tough workout with your trainer. I’d be SO sore.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 7:10 pm

I am so sore the next day! I can’t figure out how to fit it all in and not be sore. The struggles! 🙂

  10. Cari says

    01/13/2019 at 7:17 pm

LOL at running more efficiently than the government. When I did cherry blossom a friend I met up with had a version of that on. So many giggles.
    Love the teal balaclava!
Didn’t kn ow there was a Peloton stretch. What a great idea as a reminder and for an otherwise off day

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 7:18 pm

Yes there are Peloton classes for everything now. Yoga, stretch, cardio, strength. It’s been fun checking out some new things

  11. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    01/13/2019 at 7:23 pm

Awesome week! It looks like you’re really enjoying the Peloton! And, any run that ends at a bakery is a good one 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 7:28 pm

Yes it is always fun to run somewhere new as well. We don’t really take advantage of the great scenery we have in DC

  12. Jennifer @ Fit Nana says

    01/13/2019 at 7:37 pm

I am a “forgetful stretcher,” too. I need to get better, although I have been pretty good as of late. I’m certain I could do more, though. I need to get into the daily foam rolling routine. I do more than I used to so I’m still calling it a win but ….

I think I need to invest in one of those Peloton bikes. My sailor likes to bike and we have a really old (I bought it 8 years ago-ish?) spin bike. I just have to figure out where to put it in the house. I know it would get used, that’s for sure, especially once he’s home for good. How does a Peloton walking class work?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2019 at 9:13 pm

I have not tried the walking class yet but you can stream it onto a tv or ipad etc and walk on a treadmill. I believe there is also an audio version you can do outside. I will report back once I try it

    01/13/2019 at 7:44 pm

I’m guessing you really like your Peloton! Lol! That’s awesome. I swear everyone ravs about it. You kicked off the new year strong!

Yes I am loving it can you tell!?

you really had an active week! I’m getting a bit envious of all my blogger friends’ peloton trainings! Maybe you over did it last week but if you feel ok then I think it’s ok! did you pick up a treat at the bakery???

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/14/2019 at 12:55 pm

Yes I was tired but feeling accomplished. I got a blueberry lime muffin it was delish

    01/15/2019 at 9:25 am

Oh my goodness, you did have a busy week of workouts. Good for you! Our Sunday run (walk for me) was supposed to end at Starbucks, but there was too much snow. Actually, the old Deb would have been out there regardless, but for a walk… nope!

    Have a great week!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/15/2019 at 4:54 pm

There was a lot of snow!

You know, I am really enjoying the stretch classes
