It’s been quite the whirlwind week around here! With both kids heading off to college this week, I’ve had tons of emotions swirling around and just tried to keep it all together. I did not get in my usual amount of exercise this week but every little bit helps. Joining in with Hoho and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap College Move In Week Times Two.
College Move In Week Times Two
Sunday- Pool running 60 min
My first foray into pool running was a success! I completed my first session fo Fluid Running ( a guided pool running workout). Full review coming this week stay tuned.
Monday 60 minutes Elliptical
I was up to my ears in laundry and packing but was able to hop onto the elliptical for a quick sweat session and a stretch. Spent the rest of the day packing up and organizing gear for both of the kids. Wow both of my kids are going to college tomorrow!
Tuesday 2.5 mile run
Woke up to find our flight was delayed a few hours so that gave me a little window for a quick run. Great stress reliever for sure. Finally made it to Indy a few hours later.
Wednesday- college move in times two
Lots of carrying boxes, unpacking, organizing and decorating college dorm rooms for both kids. I think that counts as a workout for sure. We were even treated to a tornado warning siren in true mid west fashion. We were all pretty exhausted that night but impressed that we got so much done. My son was completely moved in and my daughter was about 50% done.
Thursday- Orange Theory class 1 hour
Had planned on a run outside but the weather was not cooperating. Decided to hop into an Orange Theory class on campus. Nothing like being the oldest person in class! Ha ha. I had not been to an Orange Theory class in years and ended up liking it way more than I remember. My achilles was also okay during class which was a nice surprise.
Friday- Spent the morning with the kids having brunch, shopping for books and trying super hard not to cry as we pulled away. Both of my babies seem really happy and excited to start their year of school. Makes me feel a little better that they are together this year.
Saturday- 50 min pool running and 60 min hot yoga
After yet another delayed flight, arrived back at home after midnight. I slept in and it was quite toasty by the time I woke up. Opted for another pool running session.
I am quite sure that my new status as an empty nester has not sunk in yet. For now, I am not really sure what to do with myself. Kind of nice and kind of scary at the same time. Well, that’s probably enough for one week!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
That’s nice that both of your kids are at the same college! I’m sure it was a tough day though saying goodbye to both of them. Looks like you still got in some good workouts this week!
Deborah Brooks says
I am so happy that they are together and yes it was a little tough saying goodbye. Hanging in there though
Kim G says
I would say that helping both kids move in was definitely a workout! I’m sure you got in a ton of steps those days as well.
I think it’s awesome that you took an Orange Theory class on campus (and how cool that they have those types of workouts on campus too)!
I know it had to be an emotional week for you and I hope that you are feeling better.
Deborah Brooks says
Things have really changed on college campuses since I was a student! Yes very emotional and I am not sure it’s quite all sunk in yet. I am okay though thanks for the kind thoughts xoxo
Akaleistar says
Pool running sounds intriguing!
Deborah Brooks says
I am really enjoying it especially in this heat! Will be doing a full review this week
Sarah @ merrillthon says
I agree that moving boxes (times two!) definitely counts as a workout! Looks like you had a great move-in and your kids look really happy. Pool running sounds awesome in this heat and humidity.
Deborah Brooks says
We did have a great move in and I tried not to cry too hard :). I am loving the pool running full review coming this week
Coco says
OTF on campus?! Wow! I remember my first empty nest days, well. Trust me, you’ll get used to it before fall break. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
It might take a little longer than that. The OTF is not on the official campus but it’s right there!
Jessie says
Moving two kids is a HUGE workout! Yowsa 🙂 Nice work. How fun to get in an Orange Theory class on campus, and I’ve totally been there when I took a corepower yoga class on our campus and was by far the oldest! ha!
That’s so nice that both of your kids are at the same school. You can visit them both at the same time!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it’s comforting to know they are together. Already miss them!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
You’ll settle into being an empty nester in no time because you’ve got your own interests and aren’t just “their mom.” I’ve only had one friend who didn’t adjust easily, but she really didn’t do anything other than cater to her kids and go to work. Have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so! Thanks xoxo
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
Isn’t Fluid Running the BEST?! I love all the workouts I’ve tried and it’s been such a great way to train while I’m injured.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am enjoying it much more than I expected to
Kimberly Hatting says
Well, I’m in total denial about the empty nest thing, especially since the son is just an hour away, and the daughter will be coming home Thursday nights for most of the weekends. 😉 You and those flight delays….you are consistent LOL
Deborah Brooks says
Hold onto those babes while you can. Maybe that will help you with the transition. I miss them already!
Hannah says
Moving is definitely a workout, especially in the heat!
Liz Dexter says
So your kids have gone to the same school but in different years? That made it easier moving them in, then. My best friend’s twins are off to university next month at different ends of the country, luckily starting in different weeks!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes my kids are 3 years apart at the same school. A little easier to have them at the same school for sure
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Moving in the kids definitely counts as a workout! At least it’s “easier” with them both in the same school. My parents wanted me to go to the same school as my brother but I really didn’t want to (and didn’t).
I’d say you were plenty active. And I’m very impressed with you going to OT on campus!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it did make it a little easier logistically. Miss them already
Marcia says
Aww all the best with the empty nest! Bittersweet for sure. I know I’ll be a mess when the time comes. It’s wonderful they’re at the same school though. Isn’t pool running a great option to have?
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it has not all set in yet but the house is very quiet! I am loving the pool running more than I thought
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
I can’t wait to hear your pool running review! I’ve seen a few people talk about it but don’t know much about it. That’ll be nice for your son and daughter to be at the same school
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it’s great that they are at the same school for a year at least
Teresa says
Oh my, having both kids leave the same year would definitely make it so much harder! But like you said, at least they have each other and I know that eases your mind a bit.
I’m so glad you are loving the pool running… can’t wait to read your review of Fluid running workouts. I may have to give it a try rather than just doing my own thing.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it has been a crazy week for sure. Loving the pool running
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
You must feel so full of emotion to have to say goodbye to both kids in college! It definitely must be comforting that they are at the same school and can look out for each other.
I really look forward to your pool running review! It looks like such a cool product!
I bet you kicked a lot of butt in Orange Theory! And you definitely blend in with the younger students 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha don’t know about the blending in part 🙂 Yes it’s been an emotional week for sure
Lesley says
One thing my mom did after I started college was she took a trip right in the middle of the semester, just for her. She went to Costa Rica and loved it. She didn’t have to wait on school schedules anymore.
Deborah Brooks says
Well that’s pretty cool! The hubs and I are going on a cruise to Alaska fairly soon I am really excited
AmyC says
Can’t wait to hear more about the pool running! My husband and I joke about how we had to learn to live together without the kids around 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
well yes, there’s that!
Dodie Mercer says
What a long week emotionally! It sounds like you did a great job of balancing things even with some roadblocks thrown in. I hope your week goes well this week!
Deborah Brooks says
Sure trying thanks!
HoHo Runs says
I wanted to decorate my son’s dorm room…and he wasn’t having any of it. He was happy with just necessities. So, it was a pretty easy move. My nest felt starting feeling very empty two years ago when middle son went away to college and youngest son got a serious girlfriend. I’m sure it will feel a little different, but honestly I had already done my grieving. I saw Fluid Running on another site. I’m very intrigued! Thanks for linking.
Deborah Brooks says
It has not all sunk in yet but the house is very quiet and the kitchen is very clean 🙂
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I can only imagine all the emotions swirling around this week! You did a great job getting some workouts in – and yes moving and unpacking your kids certainly counts. Hope your kids have a great year!
Deborah Brooks says
It has not all quite sunk in yet! Thanks friend
