Staying hydrated all summer in this crazy heat and humidity is not always easy. One can only drink so much water before you feel like there is a fishbowl in your stomach. Fueling up with fruits and veggies that are high in water content can help you meet your goals without feeling overly bloated. I am sharing a few of my favorite ways to stay hydrated.

The Best fruits and veggies to keep you hydrated

Cucumbers

These crunchy veggies are low in calories and high in vitamin C and potassium. They are over 95% water. Delicious on their own, in salads or dipped in hummus.

Watermelon

It’s not summer without watermelon. Perfect when chilled or grilled! Known for lowering blood pressure and being high in magnesium and potassium it’s the perfect post workout refuel. Also delicious in salads with cheese.

Apples

An apple a day…. Full of fiber and long known for their health benefits. I love mine with dipped in a nice heap of peanut butter. Hydrating and delicious.

Carrots

Cut up a big bunch to have in your fridge for fast and easy snacking. Full of antioxidants, fiber and water they are a satisfying snack.

Tomatoes

Probably one of my all time favorite fruits. Yes they are a fruit! I can’t get enough of the juicy, sweet summer tomatoes. Easily add them to salads or sauces or just eat them plain. Better yet, roast them with a little garlic and olive oil for a fantastic bruschetta topping. I am now totally craving a zesty Gazpacho this weekend.

I just love watermelon!!! That is one of my favorite fruits. This is such a great time of year with the availability of all the fruits and veggies. You can’t go wrong!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/13/2018 at 7:23 am

All the fruit is just so juicy and fresh-yum

There’s nothing better than a big bowl of cold watermelon in the summer! Whenever I cut one, I swear more ends up in my stomach than in the bowl haha.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/13/2018 at 7:23 am

      Right there with you!

  3. Debbie says

This is great! I know better but I have been having a tough time staying hydrated. And I get headaches when I’m dehydrated so you’d think I’d be super motivated. I need to have more fruit on hand because if it’s in my fridge I will eat it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/13/2018 at 7:26 am

I have gotten a few headaches the last few weeks as well. I am drinking a lot but I guess not enough

I have been eating a lot of cucumbers this summer. I like the baby ones. I think I almost ate a whole watermelon the other day. Well its like 95% water right so it’s ok….haha.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/13/2018 at 7:26 am

      Yep definitely ok by me!

  5. Kim G says

I love cucumbers and watermelons! Some other summer fruits I enjoy are all the berries – blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, etc

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/13/2018 at 9:32 am

The strawberries are so good right now. Going to be hard to eat them in the winter again

  6. Megan @ Meg Go Run says

    07/13/2018 at 7:41 am

All year long I eat a lot of tomatoes, bananas, and sweet potatoes. I guess tomatoes are the only ones that help hydration!

In the summer, I eat the same things but include lots of zuke and yellow squash! I planted so much this year and can’t wait until they’re ready to pick! I see pictures of friends that have huge zukes already but I have nothing!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/13/2018 at 9:33 am

All of the squash is so good right now too!

  7. Lesley says

    07/13/2018 at 9:15 am

Peaches too! The Palisade peaches in Colorado are just starting to hit their season. I can’t wait!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/13/2018 at 9:33 am

Oh yes the peaches and plums are delish right now!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/14/2018 at 6:32 am

It’s easy to pile up on the summer fruits

  10. Darlene says

Love watermelon and tomatoes. I don’t think of them for hydration purpose.

    Also love cherries and strawberries.

    • Deborah Brooks says

The strawberries are so delicious and sweet right now aren’t they?

  11. Kimberly Hatting says

You mentioned grilling watermelon? I’ve never thought of that! I’m trying to learn to like cukes…I never thought of dipping in hummus, either. Will you give me a crash course next weekend ? LOL

  18. Hannah says

I like watermelon when it’s good, but I end up with sad flavorless ones too often! We have better luck with cantaloupe.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/14/2018 at 9:41 pm

Cantaloupe is great right now as well

  19. Esther says

    07/14/2018 at 8:24 pm

I love ALL these fruits and veggies! One way we also love watermelon is cutting it into cubes then freezing it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/14/2018 at 9:41 pm

Oh yes that is great too!

  20. Chaitali says

Tomatoes and cucumbers are among my favorites! For some reason, I’m not a big watermelon fan but even I have to admit that they’re refreshing in the Summer heat 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/16/2019 at 12:38 pm

I am all about tomatoes and cucumbers as well so good

  21. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    08/16/2019 at 9:03 am

Any melon but watermelon, LOL — not a fan — except in my watermelon feta salad. Cucumber is very hydrating too.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/16/2019 at 12:40 pm

I do love cantaloupe as well if it is sweet. I have been eating a lot of it this summer

  22. Laurie says

    08/16/2019 at 11:39 am

That tabouleh salad looks so yummy! I think I would switch out spinach for kale (not a big fan), but wow, it looks good!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/16/2019 at 12:44 pm

You can certainly switch out spinach for the kale. Hope you give it a try!

  23. Sandra D Laflamme says

    08/16/2019 at 12:30 pm

I definitely love watermelon and tomatoes. Blueberries are a must too as well as cherries. I didn’t realize carrots were good.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/16/2019 at 12:48 pm

Watermelon and tomatoes are my faves too. Have you tried grilling them?

  24. Kimberly Hatting says

    08/16/2019 at 1:04 pm

    • Deborah Brooks says

  25. Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says

I love watermelon. It is so refreshing. I always tease my friend because he can’t stand watermelon nor cantaloupe. How could you not?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/17/2019 at 10:46 am

I know they are both so good!

  26. Wendy says

  27. Dominique Cheylise says

    08/16/2019 at 9:36 pm

Good thing I love all of those except tomatoes 🙂 Cucumber water is my favorite! Even though summer is technically coming to an end, it’s still been super hot here lately so this is really helpful. Thanks for sharing!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/17/2019 at 10:47 am

Still so hot here too and looking for ways to refresh!
