We are in full blown Summer Running conditions for better or for worse. It can be tricky to find just the right gear that is practical, comfortable and of course fashionable. Over the last few years, I’ve become a huge fan of running hats. Not only do they protect your face from sun damage, but they help keep you cooler and can absorb sweat. These are my picks for Summer Running Hats That Go the Distance. (This post contains affiliate links)
Summer Running Hats That Go the Distance
My all time favorite hat is this Lululemon Baller Cap. Why I love it? It’s very comfortable for running, wicks away sweat, and is universally flattering. I’ve actually given it as a gift to a few friends. It’s 100% Nylon with a customizable fit that’s great with a ponytail. I also think it’s perfect for a rainy run. Multiple colors are currently available.
Brooks Propel Hat is another go to with a built in headband that wicks away sweat. A combo of nylon and spandex provides a great fit and is machine washable. It’s super light and breathable, fast drying with reflective details. Unisex fit.
Running in low light or just want a little more reflective features? This Brooks Carbonite unisex hat it perfect for a rainy run and has 3M reflective details.
After reading about the Buff Pack run cap in Kim’s review here, I knew I had to try it out. It’s so light that I barely remembered I was wearing it. It’s packable and folds up into a small size to take along anywhere and can easily fit into a pocket. The polyester material wicks away sweat and provides 50 UPF sun protection. Reflective tab and an adjustable cord in the back. Available in multiple colors.

Nice review, Deborah!
After reading Kim’s Buff Pack run cap review it occurred to me that I never wear hats. And yet it makes total sense to start wearing one, especially with the sweat-wicking qualities and providing sun protection.
Deborah Brooks says
I am getting lots of sun on my face despite my aggressive sunscreen efforts so I am trying to wear hats more
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
This is great list! Honestly I only have hats that I’ve gotten for free, and I really only wear them if its raining. I should probably invest in a good quality hat for summer running. I especially like the Run Happy one!
Deborah Brooks says
I love that one too you won’t be disappointed
Wendy says
Nice review of some really great hats! After seeing Kim’s review on the Buff hat, I was intrigued. I’m not one to wear hats on the run but you’ve got some great options here.
Deborah Brooks says
I have noticed that I am getting lots of sun on my face despite my use of sunscreen so I am trying to wear hats more often
Maureen says
Hats are a great option! Thanks for the reviews, I’ll need to see if any of these come in visors to check out
Deborah Brooks says
The headsweats visors are really good I have a few of those as well
Kimberly Hatting says
I prefer visors over hats, but I do LOVE hats for rainy days (or if the skies are threatening rain). That Buff hat has me intrigued…..
Deborah Brooks says
For visors, the headsweats are super solid
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I prefer a visor in the summer (so I can pour that water on my head). But now that you’re the second person to mention the Buff hat — I did check it out after Kim mentioned it, now I may just have to get it. 🙂
Some of the other recommendations look interesting, too!
Deborah Brooks says
The buff hat is super light I wore it yesterday on my paddle boarding
Rachel says
Interestingly, I’m not much of a hat girl. I have approximately two that I’ll wear when it’s raining. Otherwise I tend to get too hot!
Deborah Brooks says
I never used to wear them but I am getting too much sun
Andrea says
Nice information for someone like me that Never runs without a hat. It was so hot last Sunday that I wore a head sweats visor so that the top of my head could breathe 🙂
Thanks for the great information.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks Andrea!

I started wearing hats and visors more frequently about 3-4 years ago. It is a necessity for Summer running. Now I wear one in almost all of my runs. My favorite is from Headsweats. I love the different colors!
Deborah Brooks says
They do have great colors!
Michelle D. says
I have always been a huge fan of Headsweats – I think they are the majority of hats and visors I own. I’ve been running in the Buff Pack Run Cap lately and love how light it is.
Deborah Brooks says
I was really surprised by how light it was
Jen says
I do like the Brooks hat, but I prefer visors. They are just a little more comfortable for me and easier to manage with my ponytail.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes the pony tail management is key!
Darlene S Cardillo says
I always wear a baseball hat. I can keep the hair out of way by sticking through the back.
I love my Brooks Run Happy Hats.
Deborah Brooks says
They are great options I do love mine as well
Kim G says
I always run with a hat, even in the Winter months, so thanks so much for this roundup!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks for checking it out
Angela Campos says
These are all such cute hat ideas! I am more of a visor gal, but I am going to give the Peloton hat a try!!!
Deborah Brooks says
You will love it!
