Love A Holiday Themed Race? Me too

Who loves a good holiday themed race? Hand waving over here! Dress up races bring out the fun side of running don’t they? For me, It’s heart warming to see more “non serious” runners and whole families decked out in matching outfits. Wearing a costume of some sort tends to take away some of the anxiety often associated with lining up at the start line. After all, running is supposed to be fun right?

My Favorite Holiday Themed Races

I had fun looking back at some of my favorite Holiday Races. These are my top picks.

For the love of it 10K

Always freezing cold and super hilly but always a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Will run for cupcakes and cookies always.

Shamrock 4 miler

A net down hill St Pat’s Day race with beer at end is always a crowd favorite. Lots of green!

Thanksgiving Turkey Chase 10K

One of my favorite races each year hands down. A kick off to the holiday season, this 10K is my favorite way to start off Thanksgiving. Vegetarians can still love some turkey day fun. I especially loved getting passed by the guy in the full turkey suit!

Jingle all the way 15K

After running this race semi injured last year, I am excited to train for it this year. All of the costumes are so festive and fun. The whole holiday atmosphere makes the miles fly by so much faster.

Feeling festive? Holiday themed races offer fun for everyone #racing #runningFun

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

YES YES YES!!! I love holiday-themed races 😉 Like you said, it’s fun to see some of the serious runners taking the sport not so seriously….this is a sport we all love, it should be fun 😉 I totally forgot to mention the Cherry Blossom (my bad), but we did rock all the blossoms 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/09/2019 at 1:16 pm

While not technically a holiday we did rock the blossoms!

I don’t mind the themed races, but I’m not into dressing to the them. Case in point – I cracked up when I saw the photo from the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler this year (which I loved)…but who’s the only one wearing black pants in the picture? Ha!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/09/2019 at 1:17 pm

Ha ha but you did rock the t shirt!

  5. Debbie says

We put on a local Turkey Trot but I’ve never actually run one myself. The only themed race I’ve done was the Costume Party Run, which was a while ago. I was a Dalmatian 🙂

I’m not a dresser-upper, but I definitely love watching people in costume. I don’t think I’d be comfortable dressed up and I am really bad at being creative when I want to run.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/10/2019 at 12:34 pm

It is definitely fun to spectate too!
