Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. October is always my favorite month and I’m happy to see it arrive. Instead of my usual spring into October, I’m easing a bit slower. This is the first time in years that I don’t have a race in October so I am just going with the flow. Here’s a peek into my week.
Easing into October Weekly Run Down
Sunday- 4 mile run + 1 mile walk
I slept in a bit and totally regretted running at 10 when it was already very warm. Funny, I bumped into Coco and her husband while doing my cool down walk and snapped their photo for them.
I felt kind of off after my run and was having a lot of arm soreness most likely from Friday’s intense upper body workout. I’ve gotten much better at not imagining worst case scenario of what could be causing these types of things the past few months but some days it just happens.
Monday- Tread walk 3 miles + barre
I felt totally fine this morning but decided to take a lesser intense day.Waiting for a service appointment so the tread walk and barre was perfect.
Tuesday-3 mile walk + core + stretch + Peloton foam rolling
today was scheduled to be a run day but I opted to sleep in just go for a walk. It was 85 degrees! Since I am not training for anything right now, I am giving myself grace to take extra rest when I feel like it. NO regrets here.
Wednesday- 3 mile walk + lower body strength + strength for runners and stretch
I was feeling rested and ready to get back to strength training today. We are still in the mid 80’s today and it was nice to do my walk outside again.
Thursday-4 mile run + stretch
Plugging along with my internal runs. Each one is continuing to feel better albeit a little slower to comeback than I would have liked. We are missing the cooler temps we had last week. Rumor has it, they will return this weekend.
Friday- 3 mile walk + stretch + mobility class
I had a nice morning walk with a friend after it stopped raining then we met another friend who was in town for lunch. Later, I got my covid vax which threw me for a loop this time. After 5 shots with no reaction at all, this one had me up for a few hours with a fever that night. Needless to say, I felt pretty crappy on Saturday.
Saturday- 3 mile walk
I was pretty tired this morning after last night’s fever situation. I never get fevers so this was very unexpected. I forced myself to go out and walk and definitely felt better afterwards.
This week had me easing into October but that’s okay there are still 3 more weeks of my favorite month to enjoy!

Sorry to hear you had a feverish reaction to your vaccination (but glad you were able to get one). I’ve had some sort of fever and definitely all my glands up from each of mine – it was interesting to find all my glands came up just the same when I properly had Covid this time. Matthew now has to wait 28 days to get his vaccination as you have to leave a space after you’ve been ill! Good work and nice pics for the week!
Deborah Brooks says
I was surprised as I had not had any sort of reaction previously.

I’m so sorry to hear about those weird arm pains. Let’s chalk it up to a hard workout, umm, ok? <3
I got my sixth Covid shot this week too and yep, I reacted! No fever, but I had body aches and a headache. I was prepared for it and took tylenol. Thankfully it only lasted 24 hours. I guess that means it worked!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it was short lived but unexpected.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I got my 7th with no reaction. Sorry you had one but at least you are protected.
Glad your running is continuing to improve. One step at a time, right?
We have rain and more rain. But our summer temps have left and this week will be cooler.
Deborah Brooks says
I am not sure it’s actually improving but I am doing it.
Melissa says
so sorry about the reaction you got. I am getting my next shot this week and hoping I don’t have any strange reactions. I did for all but the last one so fingers crossed this one is easy too?
Deborah Brooks says
I never had a reaction before but who knows! Good luck with yours
Debbie says
It’s good to hear that your runs are coming along nicely and that you’re feeling stronger with each one. How fun to bump into Coco and her husband and be their photographer! I love randomly bumping into friends while out running or cycling.
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it was fun to run into them!
Coco says
I always keep my eye out for you if we’re on the W&OD on Sunday morning. Thanks for the photography services. 😉
You are setting a good example listening to your body. I am trying!
I should get my covid booster this week so it has time to kick in before my next trip ….
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it is nice to bump into you! I wanted to get mine before I go to Vegas in a few weeks so at least I won’t have to worry about that
Jenny says
Yep, the Covid shots made me sick as well- how do these people have no reaction to it???
It’s probably hard to fully appreciate your favorite month when it’s still so hot- I hope you’ve cooled down by now!
Glad your runs are feeling better- gradual progress is the way to go.
Deborah Brooks says
I never had a reaction to the first 5 or 6? Who knows! I am fine now. We have actual fall weather this weekend and it’s fabulous 🙂
Kimberly Hatting says
EVERY Covid shot has knocked me out…much worse than my two episodes of the actual virus itself. Hoping your ideal October weather returns, meanwhile I’m hoping my October weather plays nice, LOL. It was a bit evil after the summer-like conditions we’d had for a good 10 days prior (IMO).
Deborah Brooks says
I would still rather have a few hours of feeling yucky than actual covid but it was unexpected. Today was just gorgeous and looks like we have fall weather all week

I’m sorry about the vaccine reaction. I only had one were I didn’t get a reaction (it was marvelous, as you can imagine now).
I’m with you — no races here, either, so it was easier not to run this week. Although I wanted to (it was cool in the mornings). Alas my husband is not a morning person & someone had to tend to Bandit.
So fun to bump into Coco!
Deborah Brooks says
I never had a reaction to the first 5 so not sure why it was different but I am fine now. Thanks! Always fun to bump into Coco 🙂

It sounds like a solid week, Deb. And I am glad to hear that you got your Covid booster. We got ours this week too (I have heard about so many new infections recently). I am sorry you had a reaction to the booster, but happy that it was short-lived. I had a bit of a headache and felt a little tired on the day after but luckily that was it.
Deborah Brooks says
I was surprised as this was the first time I felt anything. I guess that means it’s working
Black Knight says
Sorry about the reaction you got.
I got into the troubles after the 3rd shot and now I have problems again (tinnitus).
Have a good week.
Deborah Brooks says
getting older is not easy is it!?
Jenn says
Ugh, I’m sorry about your fever and reaction. I need to get that vax soon.l
How fun that you saw Coco and her husband!
I know how frustrating slow comebacks can be. I hope you start feeling more like the old you soon.
Deborah Brooks says
I believe it is going to take longer than I would like!
Jessie says
sorry you had a mild reaction, but glad people seem to be getting the booster! I wish it were available here, hopefully soon. The cold I had last week was bad enough, I’d prefer not to get Covid again!
Wow, it’s still quite hot there! Stay safe and hydrated Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
Hope you are able to get the booster over there soon too.
