Thanks for joining Sarah and me for Meatless Monday today. When I was younger, I avoided Brussels sprouts like the plague. What was I thinking? Those babies are delish! Now, I can’t seem to get enough of them. I came up with these Crispy Sweet and Spicy Brussels Sprouts on a whim. They came out so tasty that I had to share.
Crispy Sweet and Spicy Brussels Sprouts
If you are looking for an easy weeknight side, this is it. These Crispy Sweet and Spicy Brussels could not be easier to throw together. With just a few pantry staples, you can have these into the oven and baking away. They will be on your dinner table in under 30 minutes.
Why Brussels Sprouts? They are low in calories and high in fiber. They’re also high in vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps promote iron absorption and is involved in tissue repair and immune function (Source) Brussels sprouts contain small amounts of vitamin B6, potassium, iron, thiamine, magnesium and phosphorus (1).
Roasting Brussels really brings out their flavor and makes them even more delicious. These Brussels are tossed with a little Siracha, a little honey, salt and pepper and topped off with some Panko Bread Crumbs The Siracha gives a little heat while the honey balances that out with a subtle sweetness. Panko Bread crumbs are added at the end for a nice crunchy texture.
Cooks notes: If you like spicy foods, try using this hot honey instead of regular honey. I am kind of obsessed with it and use it on all kinds of veggies and tofu.
These Crispy Sweet and Spicy Brussels Sprouts are vegan and can easily be made gluten free by choosing GF Panko. Next time you are looking for a quick and easy side, this is your go to. I hope they become one of your favorites as well.

As a kid, I used to hate brussel sprouts but now I love them! I like them oven-roasted best. I think I would like the spicy-sweet combo! (And if it weren’t meatless Monday, I would probably throw in some bacon as well…)
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha on the bacon. Go ahead I won’t tell anyone. I hated them as a kid too but I can’t get enough of them now
Kim G says
Yum! I love sweet and spicy combos so this is perfect. I just discovered using my air fryer to get brussel sprouts nice and crispy but have been looking for a new “flavor” option and this is perfect!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh great let me know how they come out in the air fryer!

I love topping roasted brussel sprouts with a mix of balsamic vinegar and honey but haven’t thought about adding a spice element to it. Great idea!

Sounds delicious! I love brussel sprouts 🙂 I haven’t tried hot honey yet, though I’ve seen it at a couple restaurants. I’ll have to give it a try one of these days. I’m worried about it being too sweet for savory stuff but it sounds like that’s not the case.
Deborah Brooks says
No it really pairs quite nicely I use it often
Sarah says
We love crispy brussels! Love the sweet and spicy idea and just had hot honey over the weekend. Will have to give this a try and make 2 batches next time (Baby G can’t have honey until he’s 1), maybe this weekend for the “big game”.

I am kind of obsessed with the hot honey I use it on tofu a lot too.

Brussels sprouts are my FAVORITE veggie. I was never one for cooked vegetables (my family used to boil them to flavorless mush), but once I started roasting and steaming and experimenting on my own, it was crazy how delicious they could be. Saving this one for sure!
