Celebrating Global Running Day in 2020

Today is Global Running Day! While it might look and feel a little bit different this year, there is still so much to celebrate. Global running Day is a worldwide celebration of all things running. A day that encourages all of us to keep moving and connect with other runners near and far.

Celebrating Global Running Day in 2020

Celebrating today definitely feels and looks a lot different amid a global pandemic. However, this has made me realize what I do love most about running and that is the running community. I’ve made so many lifelong friends through running and I appreciate them even more now. I cannot wait to hug them all in person soon.

How I am celebrating today

I have set up a virtual Relay Race for our MRTT group. We will run from sunrise to sundown and virtually hand off to each other. While we may not be able to run together physically, we do still “run this town”. I hope that this will help us to feel connected when doing so is so important right now. Stay tuned for details!

Other ways to celebrate

Shop local. Patronize your local running store and show them a little love. Many are offering big discounts on running shoes and summer running gear. New shoes anyone?

Join a virtual run There are numerous free virtual events to participate in today. Brooks Running is hosting one and they also have some fun running related coloring pages to print out.

Create a running race wish list. Races will eventually return and we need to be prepared. Which races will be at the top of your list?

Run a new route. Running somewhere new always gives me a little boost. Where will your shoes take you today?

Send a little love to your BRF. Send a note or text to your Best Running Friend letting them know how much you love running with them.

While Global Running Day 2020 might not feel the same this year, there are still many reasons to celebrate our love of running and feel connected to those we love running with. How will you be celebrating the day?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Not going to lie: it was hard to feel any kind of celebratory emotions this year. Things are hard, and awful right now. I am grateful for the bright spots, though. We need to keep clinging to those, wherever they may be.
