Weekly Run Down Walking into November

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down this week. I am unfortunately still experiencing some hip and Psoas pain that is preventing me from running. Don’t worry, I am not taking this lying down and I am doing everything I can to keep moving. Here’s how my week went down with lots of walking into November.

    • After a little more than 2 weeks of hip pain and no running, I finally caved in and made an appointment with my Ortho for tomorrow. I suspect he will have to send me for an MRI to figure out what is going on. Fingers crossed it’s not too serious. This wasn’t how I envisioned November starting off but I am trying to make the most of it. To end on a positive note, I am looking forward to some birthday fun this week. What are you looking forward to this week?

Walking into November

Monday- 30 min Peloton + 60 minute strength training

Cycling doesn’t seem to make my pain feel any worse, so as long as I don’t stand up I am peddling ahead. Did mostly upper body work and stretching today. I did still put on my Zappos x Brooks birthday shoes for a little walk. They are so cute with the sprinkles.

Tuesday- 30 minutes elliptical + 60 minute hot yoga class

Hot yoga was exactly what my body needed. The warm stretch felt so good.

Wednesday- 30 min elliptical + 90 min strength training and boxing

While I was not able to do my usual kicks, we did lots of punching today. Tons of abs and upper body moves were a big part of my workout. This is one of my favorite post workout stretches.

walking into November

Thursday- 3 mile walk

It was a beautiful day for a walk but have to admit, I was getting a little frustrated. It felt great to get some fresh air but I need to sweat to feel like I’ve accomplished something.

walking into November

Friday- 4 mile walk

Luckily, one of my besties offered to walk with me this morning. Our miles flew by and even had a nice stop at our favorite coffee shop. It’s a lot colder when you are walking instead of running.

walking into November

Saturday hot yoga class 60 min

Hot yoga felt good on a cold chilly morning. Working on my dancer’s pose. Some days you are flexible and some days not so much.

November

Sunday- Peloton 45 min cycle

Always feels good to sweat it out on my bike.

After a little more than 2 weeks of hip pain and no running, I finally caved in and made an appointment with my Ortho for tomorrow. I suspect he will have to send me for an MRI to figure out what is going on. Fingers crossed it’s not too serious. This wasn’t how I envisioned November starting off but I am trying to make the most of it. To end on a positive note, I am looking forward to some birthday fun this week. About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Lovely leggings and glad you’ve been able to be somewhat active. Hope you get to the cause of this pain quickly and resolve it. I’m looking forward to … lots of work this week so I hope I get all my activity in. I will see a friend when I run to collect some cheese from her …

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/10/2019 at 1:33 pm

running for cheese sounds good! Have a great week

Here’s to hoping that there’s nothing serious wrong with your hip and that you’re back on the road soon. Injuries suck! At least you can cycle and do your strength training.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/10/2019 at 1:37 pm

Yes I am kind of afraid to find out but I need to know. Grateful I can still do my other activities yes

I’ll keep my fingers crossed you get some (positive) answers tomorrow. Being side-lined is a buzzkill. Even if we have other fitness options, not being able to do the one favorite activity is tough. Yes, it is much colder walking in compared to running…a lot of well-meaning people thought I was nuts to be so cold in those late summer months (a couple years ago) when I was “only” walking and not able to run LOL Hope your birthday week goes well 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/10/2019 at 1:49 pm

Yes it is hard to be side lined especially birthday week. I am trying to do all that I can to stay active. Thanks!

  4. Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says

Aw I love the shoes and the leggings. I hope your hips get better soon, fingers crossed that the doc will figure it out. IMO some of the best posts on WRD are the ones that deal with injury. It’s just a sad fact that it’s something that we all deal with from time to time and we need to hear from each other how to get through it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/10/2019 at 4:34 pm

Thanks it’s just the nature of running and being active isn’t it? I am going to write about missing my race later this week

    11/10/2019 at 2:01 pm

I am just looking forward to being home for a week (fingers crossed). I’m sorry you’re still in such pain. It’s really hard. But glad you were able to walk with a friend. I always have the dogs to walk (although they’re not great conversationalists).

Definitely hope your results come back not too serious! Good luck, Deborah! And your dancer looks awesome, but yes, we are not the same day to day.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/10/2019 at 4:36 pm

Ha I guess if you talk to your dogs you will be always be right 🙂 Perhaps I will improve my yoga while I heal

  19. Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says

Ick sorry to hear about your hip pain. It’s no fun. I had a hip labral tear back in 2014 and hot yoga definitely helped me rehab it faster than if I hadn’t done that. Hopefully you find answers and keep up with the cross training…I know it’s not running but its better than nothing. Also those Brooks are so cute. I really love them. Wish I’d waited to order my Ghosts until those came out…I got my latest pair like a week prior lol.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/11/2019 at 8:42 am

Oh I did not realize you had a hip issue before. I don’t think it’s that one but if it is I will be giving you a shout out for help. You really bounced back well though!

  20. Zenaida Arroyo says

    11/11/2019 at 6:59 am

Oh no! I am sorry to hear you are still experiencing pain. Hope it isn’t too serious and you can get back to running soon.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/11/2019 at 8:42 am

      Me too me too thanks

  21. Jenn says

    11/11/2019 at 8:50 am

Ugh. Good luck with your appointment. I also hope it’s nothing serious.

Is the bike working out ok for you? Whenever my hip freaks out, I know that’s the one workout I can count on.

Love that you have such a great variety, even when injured. Take care of yourself and fingers crossed it’s an easy fix.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/11/2019 at 8:57 am

Yes the bike is really helping me keep up my cardio. Thanks I hope it goes well too

slowing down isn’t much fun but those floral tights are so cute!! And I feel like slowing down at least gives us an opportunity to do all those little things that we normally like to skip as runners…or maybe that’s just me? haha! I meant to link up sooner but missed the deadline I suppose! 😀 hope you are on the running road soon!!

    • Deborah Brooks says
