While the winter weather does not usually throw a wrench into my outdoor endeavors, it certainly was challenging this week. The weather woes were real this week. Joining in with Wendy and Hoho for the weekly wrap.
Weekly Wrap Weather Woes
Sunday-Rest Day
I did it! I took a real rest day. In case you missed my post a few days ago about the rest day paradox, you can read it here.
Monday- 45 m Peloton bike + 60 m strength training
Never miss a Monday. Always like to start the week off strong. Normally, I would have gone out for an afternoon walk but the windchill was below zero. Weather woes begin!
Tuesday- 4 mile run + 60 m hot yoga
Dressing for the very frigid temps has gotten easier and I felt like I was appropriately clothed. I bought a new shirt with a built in balaclava which should have been perfect for this weather but it was not. I don’t know what happened but I had a hard time breathing and just could not regulate it. Any one else ever have this happen? Any tips? Weather woes again! That hot yoga felt amazing though.
Wednesday- 90 min kickboxing + 3.5 afternoon walk + 5 min stretch
Worked on lots of balance and plank variations. When you do them correctly (and try to hold them for photos), they can get tough fast. We were able to reschedule our walk for today. Got in a nice hilly 3.5 walk with friends.
Thursday- 45 min Peloton bike + 3.5 mile walk
Woke up to torrential rain and gusty winds. While warmer, it was not an outdoor run day. I hopped on the Peloton for a great 45 min class with my secret crush Denis. Later in the afternoon, the rain stopped and we decided to just head out for another walk. I felt bad about missing my run but needed to get the steps in for my RunBet. Weather woes again!
Friday- 45 min Peloton bike
Early morning bike ride. Ready to kick it into high gear for a busy weekend ahead. Helped out a friend teach a Challah bread making class to some younger kids. Lots of fun and I learned how to make it myself too.
Saturday- Run 6 miles
Looks like many of us are about to get hit with some crazy weather again this week. How are you handling the weather woes?
Darlene says
That challah looks amazing. Teach me.
Our weather has been a challenge. I will run outside as long as it’s not snowing or raining.
The problem is finding a path to run in without ice.
I’m done with winter. But it’s not done with me.
Deborah Brooks says
The challah was more complicated than I expected! It tasted amazing though. The weather has been challenging one more bad month I think
Kim G says
You had some really great workouts this week! Just reading ’90 min kickboxing class’ made me tired lol
How fun that you helped teach a Challah bread making class! I love challah bread and the loaf you made looked delicious!
Deborah Brooks says
The challah was so good! A lot harder to make than I expected but lots of fun to do with the little kids
Jessie says
Oh, that Challah looks delicious! It does remind me though, we recently bought some from a bakery and Tilda (our dog) snuck the WHOLE loaf. She didn’t feel so good afterwards…that’s a lot of bread!
Nice mix of workouts this week, 90 minutes of any class is pretty hardcore!
Deborah Brooks says
OH wow at least your dog has good taste 🙂
Wendy says
Your challah bread looks professional! Did it taste as good as it looks?
Speaking of amazing–your legs in that side plank! Wow! So strong.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes the bread is so good and it’s hard not to keep grabbing a piece every time I walk by it. Bread is my weakness for sure and chocolate 🙂 And Thanks on the legs 🙂
Kimberly Hatting says
My best solution for handling weather woes (or ANY woes, for that matter) is to just find humor in it. Honestly, I cannot control what Momma N throws at me, but I can choose to laugh or cry…and laughter always feels better LOL That bread…..I could eat the entire loaf, it looks so yummy!!!!!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I do try to make the most of the weather as well. I just accept that it might not be the longest or fastest run but that’s ok it’s still a run. It’s ok to take inside and do different workouts sometimes. The bread really was so good!
Coco says
That Challah looks amazing! I know cold air can be a trigger for asthma, and even if you don’t have asthma I guess it could be hard on your lungs. This was definitely a week for indoor workouts – and hot yoga. Great planking!
Deborah Brooks says
It was a week of more indoor workouts. Last year was so mild we were kind of spoiled!
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
That Challah is just beautiful!! I haven’t made a loaf in ages and now I want to. 🙂
Thursday’s weather was just awful! How high did the winds get up there? We had gusts up to 50mph down here. Disgusting. I took my car to get an oil change in that mess. Drowned rat is an appropriate description of what I looked like from the brief trek from my door to the car. Ugh.
I struggle with the balaclavas too. I think it has a little to do with my claustrophobia and a little that I’m still learning to use it. That’s kind of cool that it’s attached to the shirt, though. No chilly gaps on the neck!
Deborah Brooks says
I thought it was a great design bc it was attached to the shirt but maybe just not the right fit for me. We can get some serious winds here on some days. This week looks like it’s going to be a chilly one
HoHo Runs says
The Peloton is definitely a great solution for those winter woes. I’ve never had to wear a balaclava on a run. I did take one to a half marathon once but ended up not using it. It seems it would have the same affect as breathing into a paper bag. It’s got to be tough! Your Challah bread looks delicious. Thanks for linking!
Deborah Brooks says
It was a little bit like breathing into a bag for me you are right. The bread was so delish it’s my weakness for sure
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I used to make Challah from scratch when we were first married — I don’t eat a whole lot of bread anymore though, and have little control when it comes to Challah — I’ll eat the whole damn thing one chunk at a time.
I walked in the pouring rain Thursday. Because, you know, I had to figure out where I could run on Friday! If it had been cold I definitely wouldn’t have done that.
Deborah Brooks says
Challah is one of those breads that is hard to stop eating. I have not made it before myself and was surprised how complicated it was
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Yum on the challah bread! My husband makes some delish challah bread, but our bread machine recently broke. I think we had it for 24 years!! So, we’re waiting for our new one to arrive. I really miss it!
Deborah Brooks says
Challah bread is so good! It’s probably a good thing that I don’t know how to make it
angela @ happy fit mama says
I think I could eat that whole loaf of Challah bread. YUM! Nice work! The winter weather has been crazy here. My run on Tuesday was tough in the sub-zero weather. My breathing was all over the place but I think it had more to do with the snowshoe running. That sucks the life out of me!
Deborah Brooks says
The snowshoe running is so much harder than you would think!
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
OOOH I would love to go to a bread making class, sounds so fun! My weather woes are pushing me to the treadmill.
Deborah Brooks says
It happens to the best of us!!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Good job getting out there in the cold! I have to admit that earlier last week with the extreme cold, I wasn’t missing not being outside running at 5 AM.
Deborah Brooks says
I am never missing not going out at 5 am! It is usually a little better when the sun comes up
Renée says
so many of us sticking to indoors last week! it is annoying to not be able to get outside! I feel a bit of a wimp as I now know you guys have it way colder than we do!
I can’t run with a balaclava. I just can’t breathe properly! So I totally get you on that.
your challah bread turned out AMAZING. I have a friend in Israel who used to post her challah bread pictures in the mornings on Fridays! Made me always want to eat it up!
Deborah Brooks says
Nothing like a fresh loaf of challah! I hope I don’t have to run with the balaclava again I was not a fan
Marcia says
Great week for you! That bread looks fabulous. I’ve never made challah. I’ll be on the mill for the foreseeable future. The next few days here with record cold will be interesting.
Deborah Brooks says
It looks like it is going to be brutal out there be careful!
Hannah says
I feel like balaclavas are a necessary evil – I can never get them adjusted comfortably, but I don’t know of any better headgear for super cold weather.
Your bread looks amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
I know they are a necessity on some days glad I am not the only one who struggles with them
