This week has been all about finding ways to get it done despite the heat and humidity. I am doing my best to have a more positive attitude about summer training. I ran much less this week and instead embraced other activities that kept me cooler. This Weekly Wrap is all about Water Water Everywhere.
Water Water Everywhere
Sunday- 5 mile run and 500 m swim
Got my butt out and up early to meet the ladies for an early run followed by a swim and breakfast. It was tough going out there for sure and boy did that swim feel amazing.
Monday- 30 m elliptical + 90 min strength training/kick boxing + afternoon easy swim
Switched up my longer strength training day this week due to the holiday on the 4th.
Tuesday- kayaking 1.5 hours + afternoon easy swim
It was ridiculously hot today so opted to hit the water again for some kayaking. I forgot how much I enjoy it and the water was so peaceful.
Wednesday- 5 mile run + 60 min strength training
Our annual Independence Day run into Georgetown had a great turnout despite the crazy heat and humidity. Even starting out at 7:30 was pretty brutal. Thankfully we ended our run at a bakery and I cooled off with an iced tea and lemonade combo. I highly recommend that post run.
Thursday- hot yoga sculpt + SUP class
Why I thought going to hot yoga in this heat was a good idea I don’t know. Loved the class and the teacher and as you can see it was quite a sweatfest. We had a group SUP class at night that was lots of fun until the thunder rolled in and we had to cut it short. Good times were had by all and we will certainly try it again soon. The water was calm as could be and super easy to balance on.
Friday- rest day
I woke up so tired today and I decided to take another rest day.
Saturday- 5.5 mile run
Oh what a difference a 20 degree temperature and humidity drop can make. Today’s run was just what I needed to get my mojo back. Now just need to make it until September. 🙂
Did you have a break in the heat this weekend too?
Linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap
It felt so good to run in cooler weather yesterday! I’m sure the heat will be back soon but it was a nice break. Sounds like a smart plan to do some other activities to get you through the heat!
It was such a nice treat this weekend
Your SUP and kayaking pics make me want to do it.
Yes the heat has broken and it feels wonderful. Ran 7 miles yesterday without sweating.
Hope you have the chance to do some water sports this summer as well. Yes yesterday was amazing!
You certainly made your way around the heat and still got it done.
Thanks I sure tried!
We did have a big break in the heat this weekend! It’s going to heat back up, but not as bad as this week was.
Hot Yoga in a heatwave? Really?!
I don’t know what I was thinking with that one but it felt good afterwards 🙂
I can’t wait to get out and SUP! We’re going to Wisconsin in a couple of weeks and that’s top on the list. Glad you got to try it. Isn’t it fun? I wish we had time to SUP while you’re here in Chicago.
It was really fun and a lot easier than last time I did it in the ocean in Aruba.
It was so hot on the 4th, I opted for Orange Theory to have the a/c. You do look cooler in the kayak and SUPping! This weekend was gorgeous!
I tried to get in the water as much as possible this week!
You really had a bunch of variety in your workouts this week! I haven’t tried SUP yet but I would definitely try it on vacation – it looks like fun.
I have no idea how you were able to do hot yoga with the 90+ temps outside – you’re amazing!
I don’t know what I was thinking with the hot yoga but it sure felt good afterwards
I’m still waiting for my break. We’re in a good heat wave, and even with dark clouds and thunder, we haven’t had any rain.
We have not had any rain for a while. I would actually love a good rainy run this week!
You look FIERCE in your weight training photo! I’ve never tried SUP bt it looks so fun (and hard!)
ah thanks! I love my Bosu so many possibilities to do with it
I find it so hard to go to hot yoga in the summer, even though I still need it just as much. I’m going to try this week, you’ve inspired me 🙂
Ha thanks! I thought it was kind of nutty but it felt great afterwards. Good luck 🙂
I don’t know how you handled hot yoga in the heat. That’s crazy, lady! 🙂 I opted for time on the bike rather than running this week. Almost every run was a slogfest!
I think we are all feeling that way about running right now!
You had a great week! I can’t believe you took on hot yoga given the weather – brave woman 🙂
I am a little crazy sometimes! 🙂
Last week was brutal, and as you know, I’ve had the same delightful weather you’ve had this weekend and it couldn’t have come at a better time!
I need to get back on a SUP!
This weekend was a nice treat too bad we cannot bottle it!
Sounds like everyone had a less humid Saturday! I actually got out and did a longer than usual run that morning.
Did you find it to be more hot out on the water in that kayak?
The day we went kayaking it was super hot in the 90’s so yes it was hot but still more doable than running that day
I do not blame you one bit for choosing “cooler” activities than running. The heat has been brutal. Looks like you had a really fun week changing it up! When we got off the plane from Florida we were pleasantly surprised by how nicely things cooled off!
Yes it was nice for a few days and a much needed treat!
Looks like a gorgeous place to SUP. I so need that turtle sign. Funny how many of us are in the same weather pattern. Some one earlier made me thing of the old alka seltzer – plop plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is 😀
Yes we are all struggling in this heat together!
Yes, a big break in the heat this weekend! An I was a tired, exhausted mess on Friday, too. I finally got a nap Saturday after my race (and I seldom EVER take naps)
I am so not a napper either! I think the heat is just draining
When it comes to surviving the heat, water activities make all the different in the world! The SUP looks like so much fun. I have yet to try it and I’m not even sure why that is! LOL. Sadly, no. We didn’t have a break in the heat and won’t until…October? Thanks for linking!
OH October sounds fantastic!
Gah! I desperately want to get back out on the board! It’s bee way too long, but I have a few tentative dates coming up for it.
I love seeing all your swimming!
I am enjoying the swimming right now as it’s so hot. Best place be for sure
I can’t imagine doing hot yoga in this weather haha. I avoid heat like the plague when I’m indoors. Swimming must be amazing when it’s hot outside! I’ve been wanting to get to the pool in my townhouse complex but there are always kids there…and I can’t stand kids at the pool lol.
Yes having to navigate kids in a big pool is tough. Maybe early morning or evening would work?
Great minds think alike …I hit the pool yesterday for some pool running in order to beat the heat! I’ve only SUPed once and loved it. I love your varied workout routines!
Thanks! The pool is where it ‘s at lately
I’m sure your break from the heat felt great! Meanwhile, it was our first really hot weekend here.
ha figures!
I am all about water, water, water in the summer. I haven’t been kayaking in a while, but at least once a week I get the SUP board out for some active rest day workouts.
They are really fun to use wish I did it more often!
What a beautifully varied week you had!! Well done for looking for other cooler options to keep active!
I am sure trying!
Ah! I love summer with all of the water sports! Your week looks amazing – swimming, SUP…my favorites!
It was a fun one!
I had two really hot runs and one early morning slightly cooler one last week; thank goodness by the time I’m catching up with all these posts it has got a little fresher here. What a lovely variety of activities you’ve been doing, and how nice to have that water near to you!
Thanks I am enjoying mixing it up a bit this week for sure
