Jumping in for another week’s recap with the fabulous Tricia and Holly. This week’s Weekly Wrap Taking it Easy pretty much sums up my week. I mentioned in my Runfessions post that September was my highest bike and run mileage in a long time. I also realized after last weekend’s 10K that I needed a bit more rest than I was giving myself. This past week was about taking it a little easier. Getting hurt is not in my plan with Ragnar quickly approaching.
Weekly Wrap Taking It Easy
Sunday- 10K race
First 10K of 2017! It was fun to meet up with Kathryn and Mar and Erika for a “net downhill” race. While the race was net down hill the last 2 miles were on a highway of sorts on an upward trend in the blazing mid 80’s heat. I did not feel it until the next day, but my achilles and shins were not happy with me afterwards. So happy to feel like I am “back” with my running.
Gotta love the sweaty boobs pic right? ^^^^
Monday– 1 mile treadmill run, 60 min strength training
Tuesday– 4 mile run
As soon as I started my morning run I knew my achilles was tight. Cut my planned 6 miles down to 4 and called it a day. Lots of rolling and stretching ensued.
Started my Girls on The Run season. My nervousness about having so many girls (almost 70) to corral was unnecessary because everything really went so smoothly. I have some great girls this season who seem to really be excited about running and being there.
Wednesday– 1 mile treadmill run, 90 min kickboxing and strength training
Thursday-4 mile run
Shins and achilles still feeling tight. Cut my planned 6 down to 4 again. It was a really windy day which caused me to notice this American Flag flapping in the wind. I stopped to take a photo and realized that there was a 9-11 memorial right there that I had never noticed before. Funny how we can pass by something hundreds of times and never notice it until you do.
Girls on The Run coaching.
Friday-Celebrated National Coffee Day with my friend and then headed to an (easier) hot yoga class. I was looking for a class with a lot of stretching and not too much holding poses. Feeling much better afterwards.
Saturday-rest day
Took another rest day and it just so happened to be a holiday for me so perfect timing.
Sunday– on the plan group run. Will see how the legs feel today.
Upcoming this week:
Meatless Monday: Overnight Berry French Toast Bake (serious yum you do not want to miss).
Ultimate Coffee Date: Next Saturday please join me and Coco for our monthly coffee date. Details here on how to join.

Sometimes a little rest and taking it easy is much needed! Your coffee in the pic looks delish.
One thing I’m looking forward to this week is getting my hair highlighted, it’s much overdue!
Deborah Brooks says
A very important necessity enjoy the salon time 🙂
Kimberly Hatting says
I couldn’t help noticing your cup “overfloweth” on National Coffee Day LOL It’s great to see your running getting back on track…too bad about those achy shins/achilles…ouch!!
Deborah Brooks says
oh it was certainly over flowing and my chocolate biscotti was so good with it. I am back on track with running and my achilles was much better today. I probably over reacted but better safe than sorry as you know
wendy@takingthelongwayhome says
Today’s run taught me the same lesson. I too need to take it easy. Clearly, it’s a tough lesson for me to learn. Looks like you enjoyed your week!
Deborah Brooks says
It is a tough lesson for me as well. I want to do all the things all the time.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
That coffee looks so good! I hope the achllles/shins are feeling better. Great job with your workouts this week.
Deborah Brooks says
The coffee was delish! Yes thanks my shins are feeling better today. Just needed a little more rest

Great week of workouts even though your Achilles was bothering you. Hopefully that works itself out soon! Glad to hear that the GOTR kick-off went well!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes my shin and achilles are feeling much better thanks!
Coco says
LOL! I didn’t realize Mar raced too – how great you saw her. I definitely need an easy week this week – and other plans will actually keep me to it.
Deborah Brooks says
It’s often hard for me to realize when I need a little more rest but I am glad that I took it. I can’t get injured now!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
That shirt was very fitting for that day. Gotta love National Coffee Day!
Deborah Brooks says
sure do! thanks
Shannon @GirlsGotSole says
Sounds like a great week! Love hearing about GOTR from those of you who coach. Love that, “Just Be You” top!
I’m looking forward to my last long run for NYC this Saturday! It’s going to be a long morning, but will be happy to get it done. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
That’s really exciting! Race day is almost here the hardest part is done right?!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Downhills are rough! My knees can’t take it anymore. I’d rather go up any day. Well, within reason. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
I was surprised by how sore my shins were afterwards!
Kim G says
Sometimes a little RnR is just what the doctor ordered. I think we’re so used to training that we don;t really realize what we put our bodies through!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes exactly! I feel better already thanks
Teresa says
Sounds like extra rest was the theme of the week for most of us! My shin has been talking to me a little lately as well. I need to get reacquainted with my roller as well! You had a good week of strength training too…. My strength training routine has gone MIA since the move, I’m ready to get back at it!
Have a great week Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks and yes a little extra rest was just what I needed. Hope you get some this week too
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great week and congrats on the 10K! You listened to your body – always a smart move. I had a weird Achilles pain when I ran my half marathon the other weekend…definitely need to do more rolling!
Great to hear the Girls on the Run group is growing. They have an awesome mentor 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Aw thanks I do love working with them. Hope your achilles is feeling better too
Chaitali says
Sounds like a fun 10k! And I’m happy that girls on the run went smoothly, 70 is a lot of kids!
Deborah Brooks says
A lot of girls indeed!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
It’s always good to cut back some weeks, but I’m sorry to hear your achilles is feeling tight. Hopefully that feeling goes away! I had tendinitis last year there and it gets cranky with me every now and then, but usually foam rolling and stretching helps. You look great in that lioness skirt! Love the new colors!
Deborah Brooks says
Ah thanks and yes it’s already feeling a lot better. I just needed few extra days of lighter workouts
HoHo Runs says
How fun to meet up with the other ladies at the 10k race. Wow! 70 girls is a huge group! I know you’ll enjoy coaching them. I hope you are feeling better now after taking it a little easier! Thanks for linking.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am feeling better thanks just needed a little more rest!
Jennifer @ Dashing in Style says
I had to laugh at the “net downhill ” course description and the reality of the last 2 miles. Sounds tough! Wise to focus on taking it easy after that!
Deborah Brooks says
I somehow thought it would be easy! Live and learn right
Sharon says
Yay for feeling back with your running! Congrats on your first 10k! Glad everything went smoothly starting off this year’s Girls on the Run season!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks yes so far so good
[email protected] says
Hey it is A-OK to take it easy after some hard workouts! I had to skip out on my Tuesday run last week cause we had a pretty dang hard Leg workout which left me even more sore than normal. How do you even manage 70+ girls at one time, I hope you have a lot of help!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am accepting that some days I need more rest. Yes 70 girls is a lot and thankfully I do have lots of help
