Jumping in for another edition of the Weekly Wrap with Wendy and Hoho. As we, in the DC area, were hit with a bigger than usual snow storm last weekend, this week is all about surviving “snurlough”. Weather people love to name the storms around here and because so many in this area are also hit with furlough, the storm was named “Snurlough”.
Weekly Wrap Surviving “Snurlough” Week
Sunday- snow shoeing + 10 min Peloton stretch class
We woke up to about 10 inches of snow Sunday morning which is super unusual for us here. While it was supposed to be a rest day for me, I could not pass up the chance to strap on my snow shoes and take a little walk through our winter wonderland.
Monday-30 min Peloton ride + 60 m strength training + 3 mile afternoon walk
Never miss a Monday! Enjoying the bike rides to warm up before strength training.
Tuesday-Snowy 3.2 mile run + 10 min post run peloton stretch + hot yoga 60 m
It was icy and a little dicey from Snurlough but we got out there and got it done. Helps when the sun is shining.
Wednesday- 90 min strength training and boxing + 5 min Peloton stretch + 4 m afternoon walk
Trying to keep up with the RunBet challenge has me doing afternoon walks on non running days. I would not have gone out today had it not been for the challenge and my friend Sue.
[In case you missed it- Rope Assisted Stretches for runners]
Thursday- 4 mile run + 10 min Glute stretch Peloton
The Snurlough snow has stayed on the ground all week long. Thankfully, our trail is in pretty good condition with just a few icy spots.
Friday- 45 min Peloton ride + 10 min core class
These bike classes are challenging but I do love that I can sing at the top of my lungs and no one hears me. Today’s 80’s rock ride was a blast.
Saturday- 5.5 mile run + hot yoga
It was a dreary morning with cold, icy rain on the way. A run with a friend is the best way to brighten the day. Hit up a new Ramen noodle spot with the hubs to warm up post run.
Kim G says
Great week Deborah! I was so surprised that DC got so much snow last weekend but it looks like you made the best of it!
I think one of my favorite perks of the Peloton bike is the ability to sing and rap out loud as the instructors are kicking my butt lol
Deborah Brooks says
WE did make the best of it. Most of it melted last night w all the rain. I also love being able to sing out loud and thanks for getting into that January challenge. It is forcing me to do the stretching classes
Darlene says
I am happy to get all my runs in before today’s snowstorm. Then we’re getting wind and sub zero temps.
There will be little running this week.
Hope things warm up by Saturday.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes you all are getting it this time! We will have the sub zero temps tonight and tomorrow but then looks better. Fingers crossed for you
HoHo Runs says
Your snow is so pretty, but I definitely do not the piles of snirt! How fun you were able to enjoy a snow-shoeing excursion. I’d love to give that a try! Thanks for linking!
Deborah Brooks says
It is fun for a change!
Shathiso says
A winter wonderland indeed! Looks absolutely stunning. Well done for keeping up with all your workouts. You really lived up to that slogan on your top this week – “Fierce and Focused” 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
You are very sweet!
Thanks

So much snow, and then the dreaded “snirt” LOL That is so funny and so true. I hate the snirt look.
Deborah Brooks says
Thankfully it all melted last night during our rain storm. Back to freezing temps today
Wendy says
Hehe! I love all the nicknames but snirt has to be my favorite! We’ve had snowmageddon–snurlough is kind of clever. Glad to see you made the most of your weather. I was really wanting snowshoes yesterday. I’ve never bought them because we don’t get enough snow to justify it!
Deborah Brooks says
we really don’t really get enough either but I have to use them when I can
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
We saw a flake or two last weekend. Ugh. I guess I shouldn’t complain but I kinda feel like it. LOL. Like right now, storm is coming but all we got is rain and cold. Good times. 😉
LOL at “Snurlough.” (although, I mean, it’s not really funny.) It took me a minute to get the reference. I may or may not need another cup of coffee. I’m really impressed with how much you were able to get out even with the snow sticking around! How do your feet survive the snow? Do you have weatherproof shoes?
I would love to get my husband a Peloton bike. I need to make that happen!
Deborah Brooks says
I highly recommend the Peloton it’s fantastic! You really don’t need snow proof shoes. I tried running in trail shoes but did not like them so switched back to my regular ones. We don’t normally get so much snow but it is fun once a year!
Akaleistar says
Looks like you are making the best of the winter weather! I am staying inside as much as possible, ha ha.
Deborah Brooks says
You know, even on really cold days I feel so much better just getting some fresh air
Kimberly Hatting says
Not sure if there’s any official name(s) for the snow here…I think I heard someone calling last Monday’s frost a “hoar frost.” That was a new term for me to grasp LOL Glad you were able to get out and be so active in the elements. You definitely are a true sole sis…wish we lived much closer to each other!
Deborah Brooks says
I know except for the 5 am times! I am with you in spirit though 🙂
Cari says
Snirt, yes! Love it. This is why I don’t love city snow, it’s muddy slush in a matter of hours. Snurlough is also great. We were snowfail, all rain.
I love the ability, motivation, attitude sign. So amazing.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes usually we don’t get this much snow and when we do, it usually melts very quickly. It hung around until today really now we are just cold again!
Cari says
Yeah I was shocked when my DC/NoVA folks were posting snowmageddon last weekend when we had nothing. Current storm is bizarre too
Deborah Brooks says
Current storm is a little bizarre!
Marcia says
Wait? You’re getting rain after your snow and we’re getting sub-z temps?? What gives? Looks like a fun and active week despite the weather challenges.
Deborah Brooks says
WE had rain yesterday and last night and it all melted. We now have the super cold temps as well here. Hoping it warms up for my Tuesday run
Coco says
I think 99% of the snow is gone today, but there was a surprising amount on the ground yesterday. Love that you got to snowshoe! LOL on singing on your Peleton.
Deborah Brooks says
It was fun to have the snow stick around for a week. I am glad it’s gone now so it’s not icy for this week. I am loving singing on my Peloton 🙂 Also have a little crush on one of the instructors
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
Snurlough? What a weird name, ha! And weird weather too. You certainly did a great variety of workouts this week for all the different temperatures!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I really tried to hit it hard this week despite the snow storm
Hannah says
We barely got a dusting of snow – waiting for the rest of the country to share! It looks like you had pretty runs, even if cold.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Wow you guys got so much more snow than we’ve seen. Looks like a great week of workouts for you!
Deborah Brooks says
It is unusual for us to get that amount and for it to hang around so long. It’s fun for a few days but ready for a little warm up over here
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
Good for you for getting out for so many runs in this wintery weather! I was visiting my father-in-law in South Jersey 2 weekends ago, and we woke up to a winter wonderland that came up from your area. It was bizarre though, because once we drove out of the area, there was no snow at all in the rest of Jersey, NY, or CT!
Deborah Brooks says
It was odd that we had a huge storm for a change. It was pretty though!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I love snow!! We got a bunch of snow in Ohio, but my family drove to NY for a ski weekend. The new snow was great on the slopes! You all look so pretty in your winter running gear. I have never worn snow shoes but it looks like a great workout.
Deborah Brooks says
I bet you had a great time skiing with all of the fresh snow!
Renée says
I’ve never done anything like snowshoeing! I can’t believe you guys got so much! It’s supposed to snow here tonight/ tomorrow, but I’ll believe it when I see it…
it’s the worst when the snow turns to snirt. I hate that!
have you been doing hot yoga for long? I’m so curious about it but I just don’t dare going into a class!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I have been doing hot yoga for a while now. The one I do is not Bikram it’s more of a vinyasa flow but the room is about 92 degrees.I find I get a much better stretch w the warmth. Hope you have a chance to try it sometime
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I don’t think this storm was named, or if it was, I didn’t hear it. There was one meme about Winter arriving. On one day. All at once — that kind of summed it up!
It’s supposed to warm up mid week so I’m definitely hoping for some melting. Not sure everything’s gonna melt and where the heck I’ll be running for those long runs now!
So do you own snow shoes or did you rent them?
Deborah Brooks says
Thankfully the trail we run on gets plowed so it sure helps to get those runs done. I purchased the snow shoes at Costco a few years back. Only get to use them maybe once a year but it sure is fun
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I need to get snowshoes. They seem like fun! How did I miss that the storm was called Snurlough? And snirt – that’s great!
Deborah Brooks says
I only really get to use about once a year around here. They sure are fun though when I get the chance.
Jessie says
Wow, that’s a lot of snow! It’s cold in Minneapolis, but no real snow right now.
Snurlough 🙂 I love it. You definitely got out and enjoyed it!
Deborah Brooks says
We did enjoy it for a few days. All gone now!
