Thanks for joining me and Kim for the Weekly Run Down today. Yup, I am still complaining about the heat and humidity. It was another super hot one this week. A ready, set, sweat kind of week. It also turned out to be a super frustrating week on many levels. My blog is having all sorts of issues that I am trying to sort through and rectify.
Ready, Set, Sweat
Monday- core + full body strength + Peloton cycle
A little bit of everything today. But first coffee, always coffee first. I have slowly been adding back in hamstring strength exercises to see how it goes. Can’t lose too much lower body strength. I was happy to wake up and not feel tired legs at all after yesterday’s 10 miler. The intervals really are magical in that way.
Speaking of magical…I got these now Levitate 5’s from Brooks this week. They really pulled out all the stops with a fun marketing campaign and cool video inside the box. Who will you become in your Levitates?
Tuesday- 5 mile run + core + stretch
Ready, set, sweat before even starting my run. With heat indexes over 100 today it was a toasty one. Motivated by new shoes, I hit the trails and got it done with my squad, We stopped for some iced tea at the end which was just perfect.
I had a follow up with my Ortho today for my hamstring. I feel like it is about 75% better. He took a look with ultrasound and agreed. He said I could wait 3 weeks and see how it was going or be more aggressive and get a second Prolotherapy shot now. Of course, I got the shot. With my races finally approaching, I saw no downside except 3 days of no running. After today’s scorcher, I was ok with that.
We had a giant thunder storm that knocked down trees everywhere in our town. It also knocked out our power for almost 12 hours on a 100 degree day. When the power came back on, our AC had built up a bunch of condensation from the humidity. So, that stopped working on our upstairs level.
Oh, did I mention the power surge somehow messed up our Nest system and it was beeping non-stop for hours. Everything is now back up and running thank goodness. It was just a really annoying 2 days!
Wednesday-core + stretch and foam roll
Forced rest day post Prolotherapy. I got in some good stretching and rolling while dealing with all of the above. No pain at all from the prolo yesterday.
Thursday- 3 mile walk + core
Scheduled non run day due to the prolotherapy shot. I felt really good and wanted to run but following doctor’s orders. I could not believe how hot it was again!
Friday- full body strength + core + Peloton cycle + stretch
Really solid workout today. Glad to be feeling good on the lower body strength again. Can’t wait to run this weekend.
Saturday- Rest day with core and stretch
Did some meal prep and got a manicure. Nothing too exciting.
Sunday- Run 8 miles on the plan
Doc said I could run again starting today but suggested backing down a touch. 8 miles on the plan today.
It sure was a ready, set, sweat kind of week. Hoping for a cool down this week. Thanks for joining us!

The storms this week were crazy! I kept thinking that they would cool things off but nope. Thats frustrating about your power issues. Sounds like a good choice to get another shot and I hope it helps!
Deborah Brooks says
I think it really did. I feel good and I am excited to head out for my run in a few
Kimberly Hatting says
Major sweating in my area of the world, as well. I’m so glad to hear your hamstring is feeling better…now isn’t the time for pesky injuries or weird aches/pains (ask me how I know this LOL). I hope your run goes well today 😉
Deborah Brooks says
agreed and thanks you too!
Marcia Kadens says
Nice week and that prolotherapy shot sounds awesome! I’m thinking I should have been more proactive with this strained high calf/behind-knee muscle. Ugh it’s a nag! We finally got a break from the oppressive heat but it’s supposed to build back by Wednesday. Over it!
Deborah Brooks says
If you have any questions about it happy to help. It’s literally just a few days of down time. If your calf is still bugging you I would consider it
Coco says
Oh, gosh, I didn’t realize you lost power last week. Our went out for a minute on Friday but came right back on thank goodness. I was crossing my fingers during last night’s storm. Glad your hamstring is healing. Good luck with today’s run!
Deborah Brooks says
It feels great now glad I got the second shot. Yes, I am over the weather
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I have been out of the loop – you got a Prolotherapy shot? I have never heard of that treatment. I’m quite intrigued, seeing as how I tend to plagued with hammy issues. Have you been happy with the results so far? Was it a lower cost alternative to PRP, either time wise or financially?
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I have had prolo before with great success. I find it to be a miracle shot! I had a hamstring strain from that Cali hike I did in June. Got it 4 weeks ago and it knocked it out about 70% just got another one and feeling amazing. I would check it out to see if it would work for you
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I hope your Prolotherapy shot does the trick and your hamstring is back to normal quickly! Those rest days are so hard, but so important!
Yes, it was HOT! We had crazy storms this week, too. Ugh on the lost electricity – I heard about the large outages on the news. Our power lines in our neighborhood are buried so we didn’t lose power.
Here’s hoping you have a better week!
Deborah Brooks says
I feel so much better and running felt great today. I hope I have knocked it out. Yes, the weather was horrendous this week. So ready for fall
Wendy says
Looks like you had a really good week! Glad you’re able to run again.
We had some really bad storms by us–there were even a few tornadoes. Crazy, crazy weather. Right now though, it’s calm and beautiful. Perfect running weather, sniff sniff.
Deborah Brooks says
I know it’s really hard for you! You will be back soon and in the better weather for running
Darlene says
We’ve had crazy storms. My friend lost power. We did not.
But hot and humid. Probably not as bad as you.
Hope your hamstring behaves.
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely over the weather! Yes, thanks it is feeling so much better I am happy I got the extra shot
Melissa says
We had some crazy storms last week too, but thankfully we still have power. A few years ago we lost it for 5 days! It was brutal and we had damage to our house too when a tree fell onto our power lines and ripped them from the house. Glad you’re doing ok!
Deborah Brooks says
Thankfully, no damage at our house just a lot of tree branches to clean up. I. cannot complain as so many people near me had serious damage
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh no on all the electrical challenges! I have had those sorts of things happen, but not all at once. Glad you are cool once again!
75% is fantastic. Here’s to the other 25%!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, it was a really annoying week on lots of levels. All is good now thanks. I am glad that I did the 2nd shot. I felt fantastic out there this morning
Jenny says
I’m very intrigued by these prolotherapy shots you’ve been getting! I remember you mentioned them before as well. Sounds like everything is going well- i hope you had a great run today.
12 hours without AC would make me very, very cranky. Glad everything is working again!
Deborah Brooks says
I am convinced prolotherapy shots are magic! If your issues come back, it might be something to look into.
Michelle D. says
Ugh that storm and power loss is definitely a bummer – especially in that heat!
Great to hear your hammy is making such good progress and the prolotherapy is helping. Have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
So much better thanks!
Kim G says
Totally agree about running intervals. I have really enjoyed doing that for my runs the past few weeks.
Yikes to the power outage! There’s nothing worse that no AC in the summer. Hopefully there won’t be any powerful storms like that for the rest of the summer. We didn’t get a lot of rain here but a ton of thunder and lightning – it was scary!
Deborah Brooks says
it is scary! we have has crazy storms the past few weeks!
Jessie says
What a week Deb! Crazy storms… glad you’re okay.
Good thinking with the shot- good to stay on top of that stuff!
Deborah Brooks says
I figured why not? I am so glad I did-much better already
Renée says
good to hear you are really on the mend with your hamstring issue… and with the heat it seems the shot was perfectly timed! I can imagine you want to be sure you are race ready soon! Good week!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, afer 1.5 years of no racing, I’d like to feel as good as possible on my race days
Zenaida Arroyo says
Ugh, more awful weather! I remember a few weeks ago you lost power as well. No AC on very hot days is awful.
Glad things are back to normal. That is great the hamstring feels better!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, we have had some pretty bad storms this summer for sure. Hamstring is feeling much better-so glad I got the second shot
