Weekly Run Down Hitting the Jersey Shore

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. I promise I will never complain about the weather in the wintertime! But, wow it’s been another humidity and storm-filled week around here. MId-week, we were invited to stay with some friends on the Jersey Shore for a few days. While, the weather is not much different, It is always nice to get away for a few days.

weekly run down

Hitting the Jersey Shore

Monday- core + upper body strength + strength for runners + cycle

Starting my Monday off strong with a little bit of everything. I am really enjoying the Peloton strength for runners classes as many do unilateral drills. I like the focus on one leg at a time. Also, hit my 650th strength class!

Tuesday- 5 mile run + core + stretch

Another 95% humidity run had us sweating the moment we started our run. My shoes were soaked as if I had gotten caught in the rain! It’s getting kind of old just saying.

hitting the Jersey shore

Said goodbye to my son as he headed back to college for his last year. Empty nesters again!

Wednesday- core + full-body strength + 2-mile walk on the boardwalk

I got up extra early to fit in a quick workout before we got in the car to drive to the Jersey Shore. It is about a 3-4 drive for us up I-95 to Margate, New Jersey. My hubs is from Philadelphia and this is where he and his friends used to go growing up.

Walked around on the boardwalk in the afternoon. We happened to see the Thunderbirds up in the sky as part of an air show. Had one of these soft-serve cones with a chocolate shell. yup, as good as I remember.

Thursday- 7-mile run + core

I must have brought all the heat and humidity with me! It was a nice change of scenery to run with views of the ocean to my left. I made sure to stop at Lucy the Elephant for some photos. She was originally part of an old hotel decades ago. Now, she is a local legend and frequent photo stop.

Ate way too much Italian food and drank way too much wine. Not what I am used to!

Friday- core + stretch + 6 miles walking

It was a rainy day here. It probably was not the best beach weekend with a tropical storm heading up the coastline. Did my daily Peloton core and stretch and spent a few hours walking around town in and out of various shops. I did catch a beautiful sunset as the first storm cleared.

Saturday- 11 mile run + stretch

Up with the sun (or lack thereof) this morning to meet one of my running friends who was also at the Jersey Shore. We wanted to get our run in before the impending storm. With 96% humidity, it was not easy but we got it done. We ran along the boardwalk from Margate into Atlantic City and back. Longest run in a while!

It was such a humid week! Seems like this coming week won’t be any better. Looks like a nice place to get away. I grew up going to the Jersey shore and we still go most summer to Wildwood. Great job with those 11 miles!

Wildwood is a crazy place but fun for kids. Yes, it was nice to getaway and great to run on a flat boardwalk for a long run too

We had a nice break from the heat and humidity, for a few days, but it all came rushing back this weekend. It is what it is LOL At least it wasn’t snowing 😉 Glad you had a great time at the Jersey shore…looks like a beautiful place!

The storms wouldn’t be so bad if they broke the humidity, but they are just bringing more with them! Glad you got to enjoy the beach. How great that your BRF was there too!

I am so over the humidity but apparently it’s not over us

Yea it’s getting old. Humid hot rain.

Nice that you could get away. Love the beach. I hope to do the same next weekend.

You’ve really ramped up your long runs. Congrats.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/22/2021 at 8:17 am

Yes I have been slowly ramping up for my half in 6 weeks. It’s finally coming together

    I’m so over this humidity!

Great job on your 11-miler! I’m sure it was nice to get away for a bit!

It was nice to get away even in not the best weather. So ready for fall!

  6. Jenny says

    08/22/2021 at 10:25 am

Ha ha, I like how you said you brought the heat and humidity with you. That seriously always happens to us- if we try to get out of the heat of Florida for a bit, the place we go to is having an unexpected heat wave! We’ve given up.
Sounds like you persevered and got it all done in spite of the weather. Don’t despair! Fall is coming.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/22/2021 at 4:58 pm

Yes, the same thing happened when we went to Nantucket. “never been this hot here in June” lol yup it’s me!

    08/22/2021 at 10:25 am

The first storm. So true of this week.
The change of scenery even with the same weather is so true. Vermont was not at all Vermont weather but something about the mountains made it manageable and way more pleasant than the sauna here. Congrats on 650!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/22/2021 at 4:58 pm

The mountain views are always so spectacular and special. Hopefully, I won’t bring the heat to NYC with me

That’s a riot that your hubby and mine frequented Margate in their younger years. I’ve never been. Gosh the humidity is getting so very old. I not one to rush summer away but I think I’m about ready to welcome fall.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/22/2021 at 5:01 pm

Don’t tell either one of our husbands, but I don’t see what is so great about Margate! Yes, I am ready for fall as well

Too much Italian food and good wine sounds like a great vacation 🙂

I had no idea New Jersey was so beautiful! Amazing pictures. Love the elephant!

The beaches are always pretty even in cloud cover and humidity. I did really like running on the flat boardwalk too

Great job on your 11 miler! Looks like a lovely time in New Jersey. I’ve only been there once and only for a race. 🙂 I can imagine you must be tired of the heat and the humidity. Fall will be here in a few weeks.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/23/2021 at 6:17 am

      I sure hope so!

sounds so fun Deborah! even with that humidity and maybe too much food and wine! love it! man, I could sure use a beach break about now!

That Adirondack chair (which seems out of place in Jersey, LOL!) is about to fall into the ocean! We actually do enjoy the Jersey shore, but alas, like almost anywhere on the ocean, a long drive for us — and a tense one battling Jersey traffic!

Beautiful sunset! Sounds like great fun, Deborah! Especially the software with the shell. 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/23/2021 at 2:14 pm

thankfully the traffic was not too bad this time! We did make a mad dash to exit ahead of the storm

You are doing great with your training 🙂 Very inspiring. I am still trying to get back into running again and it is such hard work. Thanks so much for hosting.

I’ll try again… I replied yesterday while your blog was transferring over, but it looks like my comment got lost…

It sounds like you had a nice little getaway and how fun that your friend was also vacationing there so you two could run together!

Try to stay cool this week!

yes it was a nice getaway even if the weather did not cooperate
