Travel-Friendly Fitness Essentials
Fitness does not have to be left behind while traveling. Bring along a few key pieces of equipment and you can keep up your momentum while traveling.
Running shoes
Of course, I take along my running shoes! Exploring new places on foot is a favorite of mine. I also take along a walking shoe and make an attempt to walk more. I. have made the mistake of walking in flip-flops and it’s not good!
Packable Yoga Mat
A great foldable yoga mat fits easily into your bag. Keep up with core work, stretching, and yoga in your hotel or anywhere.
Resistance Bands
The perfect take-along fitness accessory. They require no space and are so versatile. I love resistance bands for keeping up with hip and glutes mobility exercises as well as creative strength moves when you don’t have weights.
Jump rope
Probably the most overlooked and very beneficial piece of fitness gear. Jumping rope for just a few minutes is a great cardio workout. Check out my jump rope circuit workout here.
Travel sized Foam Roller/Theragun Mini
Keep up with your maintenance and injury prevention while on the road. No one wants to come home hurt. A quick daily foam roll goes a long way. Take along this travel sized roller. My Theragun Mini has become my #1 recovery tool. Yes, I did sit on a plane a few weeks ago and use mine. I even shared it with a fellow passenger.
Peloton App
My go to for all strength, yoga, stretching, cardio, and more while traveling. Pre-download your favorite classes or stream them anywhere. Peloton continues to offer free trial memberships check the website for current promotions.

I pack light. Just running stuff. But when I traveled for work I could use the hotel gym.
Deborah Brooks says
I like to have some of my go to pieces with me for longer trips

Interesting post. I travelled a lot for work. In my bag running stuff were always present.
Sometimes, for the oldest running shoes, it was the last trip because I left them there to have space for the gifts I have bought.
Deborah Brooks says
that is a great idea to bring the older pairs and leave them there!

I have a travel Yoga mat, too, and it’s always in my bag when I go to my mom — I use it, too. It’s one I bring a large bag for just a few days, often, LOL!
Most of the time I bring one of my Triggerpoint balls instead of a foam roller because it takes up less space. I do have the tiger tail (really tiny portable foam roller), which I’ll use before exercise, but it’s not as good after.
I don’t think my list is much different than yours!
Deborah Brooks says
the travel yoga mat is great! Good idea to bring the triggerpoint ball as well. I am terrible over packer!

The jump rope! I need to stash mine in my January goody bag(s) 🙂 I have not used my bands in forever…those are such great take-alongs that take up zero space.
Deborah Brooks says
exactly! And now you have the Peloton app as well
Jenny says
These are all great. It’s easy nowadays to take along some light gear like this and get in a great workout anywhere. Especially with the Peloton app- what did we do before Peloton???
Deborah Brooks says
I really don’t know!!
Coco says
No weights this year? 😉 I do like packing bands. I hate jumping rope, though. I’ve traveled with my mini foam roller, but usually just take a lacrosse ball these days.
Deborah Brooks says
I will have access to a gym for the second week of the trip. They now have a 10# set here so I will have to make do! 🙂

Resistance bands, running shoes, and the Peloton app always make the trip. I like your packable yoga mat – great idea!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks it is nice for core and stretching
Jenn says
Bands and a jump rope are both brilliant ideas! They are small and light and so versatile!
Deborah Brooks says
yes always easy to pack in your bag
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
We’re leaving for the farm again today and you can bet that I packed my running shoes and travel sized foam roller! When I’m staying longer, I pack bands and tubes.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I am sure you are an expert at packing fitness gear as well It is always nice to have that foam roller
Debbie says
Last year I purchased a small bag filled with an assortment of tubes and bands that I can easily take to clients’ houses. Now that I have that it’s so much easier to take workout equipment with me when I travel. And you can bet that I always pack my running shoes and travel sized foam roller!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s great you are packed and ready for adventure!

A foldable yoga mat is a great idea! I always end up using one of the hotel towels as a makeshift mat (I don’t use it in the bathroom afterwards!). But this is a much better idea!
Deborah Brooks says
Sometimes the hotel floors are so hard!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great ideas! I always like to bring resistance bands with me when I travel. And of course my running shoes:)
Deborah Brooks says
The resistance bands are always great to have for a little different workouts
Wendy says
Having traveled with you, I can attest that you are a great packer! Good suggestions here and a reminder that travel is no excuse not to keep working out!
Deborah Brooks says
ha definitely! 🙂
Darlene S Cardillo says
Good suggestions but most likely I just will just pack my shoes… if I want to work out, I’d use the hotel gym.
Deborah Brooks says
that also works when you have access to it
Kimberly Hatting says
Well you know my Theragun goes almost everywhere I do. It’s my favorite recovery tool as well (and it’s great for a quick warm-up too)!
Deborah Brooks says
I ordered a new attachment on black Friday-stay tuned for a report
Jenn says
You had me at foldable yoga mat! How cute is that???
Deborah Brooks says
It really is useful!
