Thanks for popping in for the weekly run with me and Kim today. Yup, still sweating it out over here and making the best of it. Here’s a peek into my week of fitness.
Sweating it out
Sunday- Rest day
I took today as a rest day but did get in my Peloton core and stretch for that blue check mark ✅. It was another day at the pool with a friend. That’s how we do a heat wave.
Monday-Peloton hikes + upper body strength + core + stretch + swim
I always like to hit it hard on a Monday. You m ay have noticed I am seriously obsessed with the Peloton hiking classes. The mix of speed and incline intervals keeps me entertained and is quite a low impact workout. It’s perfect for a strength day. Today was upper body pull day week 2 with JJ. Later, the pool was beckoning me in for a few laps to finish out the day.
Tuesday-run 3 ish miles + walk 1 mile + core + lap swimming
I got up earlier (for me) to meet my group at 8:30 and it was still so hot.🥵 I’m definitely taking extra walk breaks and slowing down to hydrate. I was back in the pool for an afternoon swim. It was a 2 shower day :).
Wednesday-Peloton hike + core + barre + lower body strength
We are pushing 100 degrees again today and was glad it was a strength day over here. I have finished my week 2 of JJ’s 3 day split. Now, trying to decide what to do for the next week until we go on vacation.
Thursday-3.6 mile power walk + barre + core + lap swimming
I honestly couldn’t get myself to run in this heat again but I did have a great power walk with a friend followed by some lap swimming. I forgot how much I like swimming. Happy National Sunglasses Day!
Friday-Peloton hike + Lower body and core split training
I completed Emma’s crush your climb 4 week hike program. (Review coming soon). Ever do a strength class and immediately realize you are going to be sore? Yep that was me today. For whatever reason, my legs were shaking today. Thank you Andy!
Later, Cari and I had our bi monthly virtual book club/travel club phone chat. While I could never aspire to read the amount of books that Cari does, we share an interest in an authors. It’s always fun to chat about them with her and also catch up on our travel adventures.,
Saturday-core + stretch + lap swimming
It was another sweating it out kind of day over here. Lap swimming was perfect.
Are you sweating it out this week too?
Darlene S. Cardillo says
So what book did you both read?
We’ve had rain off and on. This week wasn’t as hot as last.
Glad you have that pool option.
Deborah Brooks says
we both read Elin Hildebrand’s Swan Song and next up is the New Daniel Silva book coming out next week
Wendy says
The weather has not been conducive to doing anything outdoors except water sports! Gack! I woke up to 62 degrees and am looking forward to running in some more pleasant conditions. Then off to the engagement extravaganza!
Deborah Brooks says
It is already in high 70’s in the morning with terrible humidity glad I don’t have a fal race this year. Have so much fun at the party! Congrats again
Melissa says
Ooh a virtual book club! how fun. what books are you/she reading? Glad you have been able to get in some swimming too to stay active. nice week!
Deborah Brooks says
We just finished the Elin Hildebrand book “Swan Song” next up is the new Daniel Silva book coming out next week. She encourages me to read more
Debbie says
How fun to catch up with Cari on the regular. I can’t wait to read all about her most recent trip and half marathon. Where are you off to next?
Deborah Brooks says
we do love to catch up regularly! We are off mid week somewhere picturesque passport required. Check back next week! PS having trouble commenting on your site again but I tried 🙂
Kimberly Hatting says
It was a chilly 57F here this morning! I was scratching my head as to what to wear for a walk. Had I been running, I would have been content in a tank and shorts, but walking is a different game (sometimes). The Callie glutes/core workout, Friday morning, had me dreading the DOMS, but they were over and gone by yesterday morning (whew!).
Deborah Brooks says
well those are my fave temps for outdoor walks and runs enjoy while they last
Jenny says
In the summer our rule is always “be done running by 8:00.” I broke that rule today, but I wasn’t going far. Since you don’t like getting up early (neither do I, by the way!) it’s good you have lots of options. And, I do know that feeling of finishing a strength workout and already knowing you’re going to be sore. I kind of like it- it really makes me feel like I did something.
You’re the second person to mention National Sunglasses Day. i guess there’s a day for everything!
Deborah Brooks says
No I am not a done by 8 am person at all! So I will just complain until October 🙂
Susanne says
Nice week! I know that feeling of knowing I’ll get serious DOMS. It always happens to me when I’ve been away from the gym or when I switch program intensity. I like the feeling though.
Congrats to living where there’s summer weather in the summer. I’m happy if we get over 20C! Good for you to have swimming as an option when it’s extra hot!
Deborah Brooks says
I do like the feeling of knowing I worked hard too!
San says
Ugh, sounds like you’re having a terrible heat wave right now (and then all the humidity!). We’re expecting a week of tripe digits over here, too.
Glad you were able to work out early and take advantage of the indoor hiking options. That hike program sounds really, really cool. I wanna try some hiking classes at the gym sometime.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes we have had some killer heat and humidity but it’s to be expected in the summer here. Glad I am going out of town soon 🙂 stay cool yourself
Liz Dexter says
We were in the 80s last week and I just didn’t run, can’t do it, don’t need to, don’t. I’ve been getting a lot of steps in campaigning for this week’s general election anyway. Cooler again this week but mad allergies! Well done on doing what you did!
Deborah Brooks says
I am with you-I jut don’t need to do it right now and I don’t enjoy it
Cari says
We had a one day break in the heat this morning and it was lovely to walk to work and not be a sweatball. Love our book chats and can’t wait for the next.
Pools do make summer manageable
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, we are gifted with a gorgeous day today too! Looking forward to our next chat
Jenn says
Every day is sweating it out day over here. It’ sjust… if you’re outside, you’re sweating. The end. I’m tired of it.
Deborah Brooks says
It is physically draining for sure!
Shathiso says
It sounds HOT, HOT, and more HOT! Well done for getting it done in those kind of temperatures! Luckily, we are a few months away from that so I must admit I’m enjoying the cool, winter days! You looked awesome in those sunglasses to celebrate National Sunglasses Day!
Deborah Brooks says
enjoy your cooler weather while it sticks around!
