Summer Running Through The Decades Playlist

I have had the hardest time updating my summer playlist this year. It seems to me that we don’t have as many catchy, stick in your head, want to sing out loud songs as summer usually does. You know the ones I mean? The songs that you sing out loud while driving with the windows down. The songs you and your girlfriends sing on your girls night out.

Summer Running Through the decades playlist

While there are a few songs from this summer that I do find catchy (“Castle on the hill” and “Despacito”), I realized that many of the quintessential summer songs are a bit older. So what did I do? I went back and picked all of my favorites from the 80’s through today and piled them all into one Summer Running Through The Decades playlist. I can’t wait to share it with you.

Summer Running Through The Decades Playlist

I’ve got over 3 hours of sing out loud, summer classics for you all to sweat it out to. Which ones do you remember?

The 80’s were full of some of my faves: Irene Cara’s “what a feeling” and Kenny Loggins “Danger Zone”

The 90’s just make you want to “jump” with Kris Kross and dance it out with Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract”.

The recent 2000’s had us “never ever ever getting back together” with Taylor Swift and how about those sweat worthy Flo Rida songs? I do so miss early Britney and all her drama.

I can’t wait to sweat out today with my new Summer Running Through the Decades playlist. Hope I have given you a few new (old) songs to update your playlist with. It would be so fantastic if you all could let me know some of your faves you’d like to see me add. I’d love to update the playlist with all of our favorites and it could become a Community Playlist we all could sweat it out to.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

There is a local band that plays in Virginia beach and they play nothing but 80s songs. So good!

You’ve got a lot of fun songs on that playlist! My tastes tend more towards rock and alternative. Running music is so personal!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/09/2017 at 8:02 am

I do love lots of the classic rock songs as well but that’s another play list

  4. Cyndi says

I have zero playlists! I don’t listen to music when I run. I do like your idea of 80’s and 90’s music. One song I always love hearing is Safety Dance by Men without Hats:)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/09/2017 at 8:03 am

Admittedly, I use this music more for my gym workouts. I do love Safety Dance I will add that one thanks

Now Danger Zone will be playing in my head for the rest of the morning! Which is actually okay, though it’s been so long since I’ve heard it only the chorus keeps repeating. Over and over again. 😊

Thanks so much I get so bored of my music too and just needed to sit down and make up a new one

  8. Kimberly says

    08/09/2017 at 8:07 am

Like you, I much prefer older songs form the 80s and 90s vs the new songs coming out today, lol

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/09/2017 at 8:08 am

I know they were so much more catchy!

I was just thinking about how fun Call Me Maybe was a few years ago, lol!

You missed the funky 70s! You need K.C. & the Sunshine Band [Boogies Shoes] and Kool & The Gang [Jungle Boogie] How about Long Cool Woman (by The Hollies). Anything by Stevie Wonder. I could go on and on. Oops…I think I’m telling my age.
