I am not a New Year’s Resolution girl. The holiday season is so hectic and exhausting. To me, January just does not feel like the right time to make changes. However, after the carefree and relaxed days of summer, fall feels like the perfect time to Step into a September Reset. This post is sponsored by adidas. All opinions and ideas are my own.
Step Into A September Reset
Kids are back in school, schedules are a little more regular, and the temps are starting to drop. As September subtly slides in, it feels like a natural time to make a few tweaks with health and fitness. Here are a few tips to help you Step Into a September Reset.
Realistically Meal Plan
Summer’s lack of structure can leave even a master meal planner a little off schedule. Ease back into meal planning by starting with 2 nights a week. Head over to Pinterest and type in a healthy ingredient you love. Pick out a recipe, print it out and stock up on the ingredients. Starting with just 2 nights a week feels doable.
Plan your workouts
Just as you schedule work commitments, school events and kids’ activities, pencil in your workout goals for the week. Seeing them on your calendar gives you that extra incentive to get them done. It sure feels good to put a check mark next to that completed workout. Be realistic about your time commitments each week and set yourself up for success. Always wanted to check out that new yoga studio? Do it!
Dress the part
When I put on my workout clothes and shoes, I am much more in the mood to exercise. Pick out your gym or running gear the night before so you are not scrambling around for that sports bra. Charge your watch and pull out your jacket. While you’re at it, pick up some new fall fitness wear to get you in the mood. I am loving this new adidas Tailored Track Jacket that takes me from run, to errands to coffee dates with friends.
Fitness Dates
Speaking of friends, having a fit crew to keep you accountable and motivated is huge. Plan to meet up with a friend for a gym class or a run. Schedule a “healthy date” with your significant other for a bike ride, walk or hike. Fall is the perfect time to get outside and take advantage of the weather.
Prioritize sleep
Late nights and lazy morning of summer can get us off track with sleep. Back to school time is a timely opportunity to rethink your own sleep hygiene habits.
By making a few tweaks you can seamlessly step into a September Reset of your own. What tips do you have for a fitness reset?

Nicely done!
I always think of September as my reset time after being in education so long, then working at a university, then working for a library supplier that did renewals on subscriptions at this time of year, then working at a university again! I’m apt to make changes at this time of year and have to watch out they’re not changes for change’s sake!

Yes, September has long been my time of reset and renewal as well after a more carefree summer

Great tips! I love that jacket…the cropped cut is so cute! I agree, fall is a great time to reignite the planning and regroup in many aspects of life (and fitness)!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I do love the fall reset and the fun cut of the cropped jacket

I love the idea of a September reset! Since I get so sad when summer ends, it’s a great idea to get back into a routine. New clothes (and that is such a cute outfit!) is definitely a must! I mean, how can you start fresh in old clothes? :p
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely a great excuse for a new outfit. New workout clothes always give me a little more motivation
Cari says
Totally with you on realistic meal planning. Granted, mine takes the form of MealPal, but it’s so nice to know lunches for the week. I need to grocery shop though as I’m lacking in dinner
Deborah Brooks says
I find just a little bit of meal planning and prep really helps me a lot
Kim G says
This is a really great idea! You’re so right – once the holiday timeframe hits, we all get so busy. Better to get a good handle on everything this month to prepare for the upcoming busy season.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I always find that a September reset and refocus works well for me

September can totally be used as a RESET and RECHARGE month for sure. After a summer of overindulging or relaxing a bit too much, September can be seen sort of like January 1st in away! 😉 Love your suggestions! PS: I always dress the work out part, even if I am not planning on working out, hahaha!
Deborah Brooks says
I much prefer a September reset over January. Always dress the pard right?!
Annmarie says
OK I need that outfit. That jacket is SUPER CUTE!
Deborah Brooks says
I am really loving it now I just need actual fall to arrive so I can wear it

I just started a Thursday morning weekly workout session with the dads in our area. I needed a way to workout and talk with other people who probably understood what I was going through.
This is a good reminder to use friends and make commitments.
Deborah Brooks says
Running friends really are the best and we can never have too many of them

You look adorbs as always.
I, too, need a fitness reset. So far I’ve completed three non-running workouts in September. It helps that I’ve started leading my fitness classes again. Haha. But I already feel better!!
Deborah Brooks says
Funny how just getting back on a schedule can make us feel so much better.

I am hoping to reset a little bit this weekend. Little man will be away on a camping trip and we are going to just have a few days to ourselves. It will be good to do things like clean the house, purge the fridge and just quietly exist.
Cute outfit!
Deborah Brooks says
That should be a productive weekend. Hope you have some fun stuff planned as well
Debbie says
I could use a bit of a reset right about now. Great idea. I love that jacket! It’s so cute on you!
Deborah Brooks says
It is my favorite time to reset! The jacket is a great addition to my closet now I just need it to be cool enough to wear it

To me the workout clothes are important. They make me feel good and ready to run or get on the bike. I love your tip on starting with meal planning for 2 nights a week.
Deborah Brooks says
New clothes always make me feel good as well. Yes meal planning does not have to be all or nothing

Even though I don’t have any students in the house, September does seem like a start of a “new” season and a good time to reset habits that may have slacked over the summer.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I think so too!
Black Knight says
September is the start of a new “season” for me. Now my only duty is to accompany my grandsons to school and after I have all the morning for me, so I can plan the workouts as I like.
Moreover the heat is going away and (I hope) a new racing season is coming.
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds like a good time for you as well!
Leslie says
I totally agree with you! It’s much easier to get in good habits this time of year vs in January!
Deborah Brooks says
It sure can be for me as well
Angela says
Oh yes! I could definitely use a reset. One thing I really need to work on is prioritizing sleep!!
Deborah Brooks says
I have not been sleeping well lately either!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
All great suggestions! I have often looked at September as an “unofficial” new year – there’s something about fall that makes me want to take a fresh look at things.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes exactly!
Laura Oswald says
Honestly hunny, making sure my room temperature was exactly 17C has helped me sleep so much – it makes getting up for an early working incredibly easier.
Great tips!
Deborah Brooks says
WE like to keep our room cool for sleeping as well
