Spooky October Runfessions Halloween Edition Spilling on all the scary details

Wow another month of the year checked off! The days can feel so long while the weeks and months fly by. October’s mostly fantastic weather helped to raise my spirits (Halloween pun intended) and energize me. I am ready for some Spooky October Runfessions Halloween style. Thanks to Marcia for hosting.

Spooky October Runfessions

I Runfess…

I am over joyed that I have been back to pain free running this month. The 4:1 intervals are serving me well and I am plugging along on the mileage. I don’t see any reason to stop using intervals at this point. Recently, I ran 5.5 miles while chatting away with one of my BRF’s. Doesn’t get much better than that! I am optimistic I will be able to complete my virtual 10K turkey Trot in a few weeks. ( In case you missed it, why I think it’s more important than ever to run a local Turkey Trot this year).

I Runfess…

I mentioned a few weeks ago what I’ve learned by logging all of my food onto My Fitness Pal. Almost 6 weeks into this program  and I am  feeling fantastic. Admittedly, I was skeptical about increasing my protein intake and cutting my carb intake. Previously, I was all about the carbs! Surprisingly, I have tons of energy and my workouts and runs are feeling fabulous. Those jeans that were feeling a little snug last month, are sliding right on. I think I’ve even caught a glimpse of my abs in the mirror this week. It sure helps not to have any Halloween candy in the house either! Stay tuned for a full review of the Stronger U program after I finish my 12 weeks.

I Runfess…

I really miss decorating the house for Halloween and dressing up with my kids. While this year feels especially different, I am thinking that my Wonder Woman costume needs to make it’s year appearance. Planning on wearing some version of it on my run today. How about you? Dressing up this year at all?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I am so, so happy for you that you’re running pain-free again, Deborah! Well done.

And yes, you absolutely need to take that Wonder Woman costume for a run today. Please take a photo! So much fun.

Thanks and yes I did pull that costume out! 🙂

I always pull out my WW costume for work! The kids love it. But I’m not working on Halloween this year, so no costume. I do miss the days of taking the boys out trick or treating.

I know it was so much fun to do when they were little

I love your Wonder Woman costume! My husband put out our halloween decorations and insisted I bought candy, even though we barely get a few trick-or-treaters in a normal year. I’m so glad your running is still going well!

      10/30/2020 at 10:46 am

Thanks me too! It’s great to feel good again

A bunch of us at work were going to dress as “old ladies,” but a couple have been out sick, and another took a spontaneous vacation. So…I might just wear my spider web shirt LOL SO glad you’ve had a great month of pain-free running!

It’s so nice to be back running pain free again. You will be back there soon too

So glad that you have been running pain free this month, that’s awesome!

I’m wearing a pumpkin costume to my OTF class tomorrow for Halloween. It’s been hard to get into the spirit for the holiday this year with everything going on.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/30/2020 at 10:47 am

It is hard to get into the spirit this year for sure but it’s a nice escape for a day

So happy you’re running pain free! You reminded me to sign up for the virtual turkey trot too so I appreciate that haha.

No dressing up this year unless I throw something together super quick. I’ll have to check the costume bins my parents have to see if there’s a good mask to wear for trick or treaters. Not sure how other towns are handling it but where my parents live, sent every house a red and green sign so homeowners could put them up. Green means yes for trick or treaters (masks are required for people trick or treating and people handing out candy) and red means you don’t want anyone knocking on your door. I think that’s the best scenario for the holiday

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/30/2020 at 10:50 am

That sounds like a good plan! We don’t usually get many at our house anymore so I am not buying candy this year

  7. Marcia says

    10/30/2020 at 8:31 am

This will be the first year I do not have a trick or treater in the house. With the whole Covid thing, I’m grateful that’s the case. I runfess it did not even occur to me to dress up. Hooray for feeling fantastic! Thanks for linking!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/30/2020 at 10:54 am

It is weird not having kids in the house for Halloween anymore. Yes I am happy to be feeling good out there again

    We’re twinning on the 4:1 intervals 🙂 I’m so happy that you’re running pain-free!

This is the first year we haven’t done any decorating for Halloween – I just couldn’t muster the energy. And, without little ones in the house, it just doesn’t feel the same.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/30/2020 at 10:54 am

I am so happy that we are both running pain free!

  9. Chocolaterunsjudy says

Even as a kid I wasn’t much into dressing up for Halloween. So no regrets there. I suppose it might’ve been different if I’d had kids, but then again, my parents really weren’t into Halloween that much either.

Congrats on running pain free & seeing your abs!

    • Deborah Brooks says

Halloween doesn’t real feel like Halloween this year anyway! Yes happy to be running pain free

  10. Jessie says

    10/30/2020 at 3:05 pm

It’s been good not to have the candy, but tis the season for cozy baking! My husband made some delicious chocolate chip cookies yesterday. 🙂

Protein does make all the difference though!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2020 at 3:38 pm

Those sound really good! Yes higher protein has been a great change for me

  11. Jenn says

    10/30/2020 at 7:46 pm

I am also glad you are running pain free!

I love Halloween, so I will be dressing up. I can’t wait!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2020 at 3:48 pm

Hope you all have a great time today!

  12. Laurie says

I have been thinking about reducing my carbs and increasing protein too. You have convinced me – I am going to do it. I don’t eat sugar anymore (well, except for occasional cheats), but I still eat bread, pasta, etc. I think reducing the carbs would give me more energy too.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/31/2020 at 3:50 pm

I am happy to chat about it with you but I was surprised at the difference it has made for me so far

I put out our fall decorations in late September and put up a couple of cute little Halloween ghosts in my kitchen window seal. Decorating for Thanksgiving is on my todo list for this afternoon. I love that you’re running pain free and that you wore your superwoman costume on your run on Friday!

So so happy to be pain free running!
