Well, this month sure flew by! It’s that time again to get some of those confessions or as well like to call them Runfessions off of my chest. Thanks to Marcia for hosting. Let’s get right to it.
Spooky but not so scary October Confessions and Runfessions
I Confess and Runfess…
Now that races are back in the mix, I am feeling the need to make up for the lost time. I am looking at squeezing in a few more before the end of the year. So far, I have the Chicago Hot Chocolate 15K next weekend, a Turkey Trot, and a new Hannukkah 8 mile race. I can’t pass that one up because A- I celebrate Hannukkah and there are not that many races for it and B- automatic PR for an 8-mile race distance!
I Confess and Runfess…
You may have noticed I have a little bit of an athletic wear obsession. Signing up for those races has me all excited to start planning out my fun holiday-themed racewear. I have my Halloween leggings ready to go for this Sunday. Oh, it is the little things like that keep me motivated.
I Confess and Runfess…
Halloween was always so much fun when my kids were little. I loved dressing up and going all out with the decorating at home. Since my kids have grown up and gone off to college, we don’t really do Halloween anymore. In fact, I did not even buy any candy this year. I know I would just end up eating it if it was sitting around. The house we live in now does not have any kids around and I don’t think we will get any traffic. If we do, I guess they will get a protein bar or a banana! I really do miss it and hopefully one day I will get to experience it all again with some grandkids.
Holiday themed races? Yes or no? Halloween costumes and candy? Yes or No? That’s all I’ve got for today’s Spooky Runfessions and Confessions.

I’m with you on Halloween. We don’t usually get a large number of trick or treaters even though I live near the school. There is a section of ‘big’ houses in my neighborhood and they all hand out full-size candy bars, so everyone seems to go there, lol. It was fun when the boys were little, tho.
I can’t believe you’ve never done an 8k! You’ll have to come here in March to do the Shamrock Shuffle. It’s a fun one!
Deborah Brooks says
It is an 8 mile run for the 8 nights of Hannukah so I’ve never seen one of those. I must run it however I am not a fan of the course
Marcia says
By the looks of the school bus stop in our neighborhood, there are more kids here now than ever. I bought candy and I made the mistake of putting it out. I’ve resisted it but mysteriously all the chocolate seems to have disappeared. Love the Halloween tights!
Deborah Brooks says
I know if it is here I will eat it but if it is not here I really don’t miss it
Darlene says
Our Halloween themed race went virtual. I run in Sunday I’ll add the appropriate running outfit.
Our neighborhood has changed over the year. Young couples have moved in. I hope I have enough candy.
Deborah Brooks says
I used to run out all the time and it seems like there are more kids than ever around!
Coco says
I love giving out Halloween candy and hope we get trick-or-treaters. Being at the top of a hill on a sidestreet cuts down our traffic, but my husband insists on buying a lot just in case — or that’s how he justifies it.
Yay on all those races. I’ll have to look into the Hannukkah one.
Deborah Brooks says
I used to love it too but we don’t get much traffic here at this house so I am skipping it this year
Jenny says
This is the first year I won’t be going trick or treating with my kids (my daughter is now going with a group of friends) and i’m a little sad. i’m looking forward to grandkids too!
That’s the first Hannukkah race I’ve ever heard of! Yes, you have to run it!
Lastly I love those Halloween leggings- you will be a hit at your race!
Deborah Brooks says
I know I really miss halloween with the kids now that they are grown up. I must do the Hannukkah race! No race this weekend just me looking goofy in my Halloween tights 🙂
Kim G says
Those Halloween leggings are amazing! I love that you were able to sign up for the Hannukkah 8 mile race. I’ve noticed that there aren’t any Hannukkah specific races here – I hope that’s something that changes soon. We usually have a Jingle Bell jog race but I don’t think it’s happening this year.
Deborah Brooks says
I’ve never seen a specific hannukkah race either but I am so excited to run it!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Wow! A Hannukah race! That’s so cool. I’ve never done an 8 mile race either.
We did give away candy until we moved here — that’s 24 years of candy giving but no kids. It was time for a variety of reasons! We do have a fair amount of kids here, and even more have moved in in the last few years (and some of course have moved away). I usually bought something I didn’t really like. Candy isn’t a huge weakness (unless it’s reeses) but why bother trouble?
Deborah Brooks says
Yeah having Reeses here and not tasting a few would be hard! I am excited for the Hannukah race
Black Knight says
Here Halloween is not so popular and for this reason the houses are not decorated.
About the events, as far as I know, there are not Halloween and Hanukkah races around here nor in Rome.
The only theme raced is the Run of the Saints in Rome on Nov. 1st with the start in St.Peter square.
Deborah Brooks says
OH that would be a fun race to do in Rome!
Kimberly Hatting says
Not much for Halloween in my ‘hood either. Our neighborhood is slowly turning over with school-age kids, but we never get much traffic for trick-or-treaters. I have not bought any candy yet, either. I’m loving those leggings!!!
Deborah Brooks says
I cannot wait to wear them 🙂
CAri says
Did you do a July 4th race one year? One of the first things I remember “knowing” about you through your blog was your awesome outfits, and I feel like it was sooner than Halloween or Thanksgiving given I joined the linkup in spring, but p ossible your fall game was just that memorable. Looking forward to my Halloween shirt. Trick or Treat isn’t really a thing in the city, but it’s cute to see the kids out and about and the decorations.
Absolutely on the Hannukah race, for both reasons!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, we usually do a 4th of July run into DC and I am sure I was decked out in some sort of patriotic gear. It is the little things that make us smile
Jenn says
YES for everything festive!
We don’t a ton of kids on our street, but that’s ok. A is going to take our leftover candy to his troop this weekend and that will get rid of the rest of it.
I am skipping a Thanksgiving race, but doing a few Christmas and New Year’s ones.
Deborah Brooks says
That will be fun too!
