How is it the end of the month already!? Gosh, I sound just like my mom but time does seem to be flying by right now. Popping in for a quick June Runfessions while soaking up summer. Thanks to Marcia for hosting.
Soaking up Summer
I Runfess…
I am really surprised that I am still feeling some lingering soreness from last week’s trail adventures. My left hamstring is still a little angry and both of my knees feel sore. My body is not used to so much up and down and it’s letting that be known. I am glad I am honoring that and have really cut both the intensity and time of my workouts this week. Hoping I am feeling back to normal by the end of the weekend. Miss my recap? Find it here.
I Runfess…
As much fun as I had out on the trails in California, I don’t see myself becoming a trail runner and giving up the road. I was really nervous about falling and or twisting my ankle while running or walking on unstable ground. The extreme downhills might even be harder than the uphills. I am pretty sure that’s why my knees feel funny. Kudos to you all who regularly run through rocky terrain. That is not easy to do!
I Runfess…
I mentioned last month that I completed my Nutrition Coaching Certification. I am happy to report that I have begun coaching 3 clients for the last 3 weeks. It’s going really well and all of them have already made some progress in working towards their goals. I am really enjoying putting my learning into practice. Know anyone who might be interested in working with me? Send them my way! Tell me, have any burning nutrition questions?
Runfessed while soaking up the summer vibes!
Program note: The Weekly Run Down will be opening at 8 am from now on. Link up whenever you wish on Sundays. Next Friday is the Ultimate Coffee Date see you there!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Congrats on your certification!
I runfess that trail running TERRIFIES me for the very reasons that you mention. It just seems way too easy to fall or get hurt. I enjoy reading about trail running but I have zero desire to leave the road.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, it can be a little scary out there. I am not interested in falling or injuring myself again
Kimberly Hatting says
I have done some trail races, but really cannot call myself a trail runner. I’m a klutz, and I own it LOL The downhills are especially scary. Also, while I love being out there and seeing all the beauty in the woodlands, having to constantly be monitoring my footsteps takes away from the experience a bit. Your Cali adventure sure looked fun, though! Hope your knees and hammy feel better!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, we were talking about just that issue of having to look down all the time. While I really enjoyed it, I don’t think it would ever become my norm
Marcia says
Trail running is definitely a different animal and requires different training. Your adventure looked so fabulous! When I crewed for a friend running the 50 miler in Leadville, I was AMAZED how fast she could take the downhills. It’s all about practice and adaptation. How awesome to have nutrition clients! Congrats!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I am sure if I really practiced it I would not be so scared of the downhills
Michelle D. says
I have always worried about turning an ankle and the such on a trail. I still need to pop over and read your recap!
Congrats on the nutrition clients! I need to connect with you on the whole macro thing I’m trying to master.
Deborah Brooks says
I would love to help you out w the macros I am all about them. It has made a huge difference for me happy to give you a few tips
Jenny says
I know I said your adventure is my dream vacation, but I have idea how I would deal with the hills. It’s so flat here, I would have no way to train for it. I’m sure that’s why you’re sore, but sounds like everything will calm down soon (especially since you’re taking it easy.) hope you feel back to normal soon!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I am not used to that type of altitude either. I knew I could do it but it’s a different kind of muscle use than I am used to
Darlene S Cardillo says
That’s cool that you got your certification and you are earning $$ with some clients.
Hiking and trail running are tough on the legs but sooo pretty.
I will not turn into a trail runner either and definitely not race on trails.
Deborah Brooks says
It is pretty to be out there but yes, it is not easy on the legs
Kim G says
Congrats on the new nutrition clients! it’s great to be able to put all of that knowledge into practice.
i agree with you about trail running – I’m just way to nervous about tripping and falling, especially on the downhills.
Deborah Brooks says
I know the downhills are scary!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Wow! So impressed that you already have clients! That is something I would also love to do, have considered, but finding clients? I’m not good at that! Kudos.
You did a LOT of trail running. Day after day. You might find it a different experience if you just throw in a trail run once a week!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I am happy to have some clients to practice on! You are right, perhaps I would not have been so sore if I had only done one day
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I bet trail running is so hard! The only trails I have ever run were pretty flat. I would definitely be nervous about tripping!
Deborah Brooks says
I was so nervous about twisting my ankle or falling. I am going to stick to road running for now
Coco says
You covered a lot of miles on your trek and you’re right, the steep descents can take a toll. I’m glad your nutrition coaching is off to a good start. I’m just so tired of meal planning and shopping — I need to hire a chef.
Deborah Brooks says
ha that would be nice! meal planning does get tiring. I find it is so much easier once the kids leave
Zenaida Arroyo says
I also do not see myself as a trail runner. I enjoy it here and there but that’s it. I hope you feel better soon. I can imagine it taking a toll on your knees.
Deborah Brooks says
I do already thanks
