Runfessions- September Style

I Runfess…

I am thankful to be back out there running again pain free! It’s been a year of on and off injuries for me. After having Prolotherapy last month, I’ve done a slow reentry. I am taking it super cautiously with interval runs and short distances. I also Runfess that being in bike cardio shape is not the same as being in running shape, Running shape is it’s own animal for sure! It’s humbling to find 4 minutes of running challenging. Fall running is my favorite and I am planning on enjoying every minute of it no matter how slow I go.

I Runfess…

I am super disappointed that I won’t be traveling up to Corning, NY next weekend for the Wine Glass Half Marathon. A group of 4 of us were planning an extended girls weekend and racing. I am obviously in no shape to run a half marathon so that part is a relief. The Wine Glass has a virtual option and I plan to do it my way. I will be splitting it into 3 runs + 1 walk next week to complete the 13.1. I won’t feel right about wearing the half zip if I don’t at least accomplish the miles in some way. You know what they say, “Run your own race” and that’s what I plan to do September Style. Looking forward to a redo next October with the Runner Girl Gang.

Runfessions| Rock your sol| Thankful for running

Tell me have you ever split up a virtual run to reach the mileage safely? Can I still wear my half zip?

Hope to see you next Friday and Saturday for the Ultimate Coffee Date!

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Of course you can wear the half zip! I haven’t split up a virtual race but I’m not saying I wouldn’t. Run your own race!

Definitely that’s where I am right now 🙂

I’ve heard great things about the Wineglass race weekend and it’s on my list! I was considering it this fall but obviously it didn’t get farther than a thought in my head haha. I think the ability to split up a virtual run makes it fun since you still complete it but if you aren’t in shape or coming back from an injury so that you don’t have to completely miss out.

I runfess I have only finished one run this week. My knee has been acting up so trying to take it easy. Enjoy all of the fall running weather while pain free!

I hope we both get to run it next year in person! Take care of your knee

I’ve never thought to split up a virtual run but now that you mention it, it sounds like a good idea to me! I had two girls’ running trips planned for this fall that thankfully got canceled before any arrangements were made. We were headed to Amelia Island for the ZOOMA half and then NYC to cheer on a friend in the marathon. Sigh. Thanks for linking!

      09/25/2020 at 12:24 pm

Yeah total bummer I hope we both get to go do them next fall

I think that’s a great way to tackle the virtual half!

      09/25/2020 at 12:25 pm

      That’s my plan!

Well, I biked a virtual 20K a few weeks ago… definitely had to make that “my race my way.” This is a perfect year for doing things on our own terms 🙂 I’m so glad your running is feeling good (pain-free)…the speed & endurance can come on their own timelines.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/25/2020 at 12:25 pm

      You are very right! thanks

I like that idea about splitting up your virtual half marathon! I may think about trying that as a way to tackle my October half – thanks for the suggestion 🙂

I’m so glad that therapy paid off for you and you’re enjoying some pain-free running!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/25/2020 at 12:25 pm

You got it! Have to do what works best for you right now

Running shape is its own animal. I found that out when I was injured and tried water running, doing the elliptical, swimming, etc. NOTHING is like running. So glad that you are able to start running again. You are doing it the smart way!

      09/26/2020 at 7:54 am

Fingers crossed I can keep it up thanks

Good idea to split up your race. Yes, I think you can still wear your 1/2 zip! It’s too bad you can’t go on your trip but it sounds like it works out considering you are just coming back from an injury.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/26/2020 at 7:54 am

Already looking forward to next year

I think you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do in order to stay healthy and splitting up the half into segments is genius! And if you do the mileage, you earn the right to wear the 1/2 zip! Have fun and stay healthy!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/26/2020 at 7:54 am

      Thanks Deb!

I would split up the race in a heartbeat! I think the only requirement is that you need to have a glass of wine at the finish of the race. I ran a race at a winery once and the wine afterwards was to die for.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/26/2020 at 7:55 am

      Already planning the wine!

I’m so glad your return to running is going well! It is hard to see planned event dates come and go. I was going to be in San Diego this week, instead, I was on Zoom overload for the virtual edition of that conference. Wear the half zip with pride for getting through this crazy year.

      Thanks Coco! 🙂

When I read about the BAA Challenge, knowing I don’t want to run a half, I considered running some and walking some although in the end the entry fee is just higher than I want to pay. I think anything we do this year counts, and I love that you’re still planning to cover 13.1.

I never really thought about biking shape being different from running shape, but of course it is.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/26/2020 at 10:17 am

It is so different! Working my way back slowly but surely.

  13. Liz Dexter says

    09/26/2020 at 11:53 am

Yes of course you will earn that top! I have done a couple of challenges including a marathon in a week and I’m sure some people did it in one go but not me!

I really want to go to the Wineglass one day. It’ sa bucket list for me.

I may have to split up a half marathon coming up in a few weeks. I hate to do it, but I’m really nervous.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/27/2020 at 7:48 pm

you we have to do what we have to do!

That’s such a fun and unique way to earn your swag
I walked one earlier this year and did Kim’s, but other than the Zooma one on tap, I’ve not done any of the virtuals. Partially bummed as they’ve been fun, but partially glad for the break. Corning would be amazing though. I’d love a fall colors Half
