Runfessions Black Friday Edition

It’s the last Friday of the month and that  means it’s time for a Runfessions post with Marcia. Not even Black Friday can stop these baring of the soles (souls) posts. What’s an injured runner to do for a Runfessions post? I am going to use it to whine a little. Here it goes.

Runfessions Black Friday Edition

I Runfess…It’s been 5 weeks since my last run. That is like 5 months in “runner time”. I am doing everything I can to speed up my healing from PT exercises to cupping to dry needling to infrared heat. I am feeling a lot better 80% maybe? But honestly, wow am I frustrated and a little sad that I missed my favorite season to run in.

Runfessions

I Runfess…I had a DNS on a 10K a few weeks ago, I am missed my favorite Turkey Trot and obviously won’t be able to run the 15K I signed up for next weekend. Right now, I am thinking about walking a holiday 5K next weekend with some ladies from our MRTT walking group. I think it will make me feel like I am in the race atmosphere with the holiday hoopla. Funny, we don’t celebrate Christmas (as we are Jewish) but I love the whole holiday dressing up for races thing. Plus, I think my Garmin misses me.

I Runfess…After telling the PT this week that I am feeling a lot better, we agreed that I would try a test “run” on Sunday. He said that I can try 40/20 intervals. So that means 40 seconds of running with 20 seconds of walking. Sounds almost silly to get all suited up in winter gear for that but I am excited about it. I miss all of my running friends! So stay tuned to see how it goes on Sunday.

I Runfess…Next week is the Cherry Blossom 10 miler lottery for the April race. Who knows what my status will be but I am entering. Anyone else? We had so much fun last year and it was a blast having Kim and Linda stay with me.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I hope that your test run on Sunday goes well! I totally understand the frustration when you can’t run but everyone around you can 🙁

I know it’s been really hard the past few weeks

Good luck with your rehab. It’s hard to be patient.

I am not and though my foot hurt I ran 2 races yesterday.

Icing today. But I plan to walk my next 5k if it doesn’t feel better.

Someday I want to run in DC!!!

      11/29/2019 at 9:02 am

Thanks and I do hope you come to do DC for a race sometime

Oh Deborah, I understand that frustration and impatience so well! That pic of the little boy with his nose pressed against the window sums it up.
You’re doing all the right things to recover from your injury. You’ll be back soon!
I hope your 40/20 intervals will go well. And yes, you should absolutely walk the holiday 5k to feel part of it.

Thanks I know we have all been there at some point. Hope to be back out there soon!

I am so sorry you are out of your running routine! I definitely think you should walk the holiday 5K. Nothing like being at a Holiday race to raise the spirits! -M

I agree I am going to do it!

I’m sorry you’re still on IR. I hope the rest of your road to recovery is short! As I shared, I am gun shy about registering for anything right now, but I will have to give the CB lottery some thought …. Hope you are enjoying family time at least!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/29/2019 at 8:56 pm

I am going to enter the lottery and figure I can always transfer it to someone. I have no idea how I will be in April

That’s exciting that you’re going to ease back into some mild running! YOU are SO wise to take things slow (though I know how frustrating that can be). All the PT stuff you’re doing will pay off big time 😉 The Cherry Blossom was so much fun!!!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/29/2019 at 8:57 pm

I sure hope so! I know you have been there. I am going to do my test run tomorrow stay tuned to see how it went.Fingers crossed

  7. Marcia says

    11/29/2019 at 10:13 am

I’m bummed FOR you that you missed out on fall running. I so hope your test run is a successful one and you are well on your way to a full recovery!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/29/2019 at 8:58 pm

Thanks Marcia. I think it just comes along with the territory. We have to expect to get injured from time to time.

  8. Laurie says

    11/29/2019 at 1:59 pm

I am sure your Garmin misses you. Not running for 5 weeks would be tough! I think walking the 5K sounds like a good idea. Hope you feel better soon!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/29/2019 at 8:59 pm

      Thanks so much Laurie!

  9. Jenn says

You can whine to me anytime. I missed the Turkey Trot and probably won’t be cleared for walking for quite some time which means missing two great holiday races, a New Year’s race, the relay for the Children’s Hospital and maybe my BDR challenge. It’s maddening.

Just follow your recovery orders (easier said than done, I know) and listen to your body. You’ll be back. <3

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/29/2019 at 8:59 pm

Right back at you Jenn. We will both be back out there soon enough. I will be thinking of you

Woohoo for a run Sunday (hope the snow doesn’t reach down that far). Slow & steady on the comeback.

Cherry Blossom sounds like so much fun! Right now is just not the right time for me to even enter the lottery. Hope you get in — that sounds like a fantastic comeback race.

I’m not a costume girl. I love looking at everyone else’s costumes, though!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/29/2019 at 9:00 pm

I am going to enter but have no idea if I will be up to it! Moving my test run to Saturday fingers crossed!

  11. Wendy says

    11/29/2019 at 6:45 pm

I detect no whining! I’d love to throw my name in the hat again for Cherry Blossom but I don’t know how I’ll be feeling then. Hang in there, friend!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/29/2019 at 9:01 pm

I haven no idea how I will be feeling either but I figure I can always transfer. You know you are welcome to stay w me anytime!

  12. Cari says

    11/30/2019 at 10:00 pm

I’m going to enter cherry blossom. It’s kind of crazy as I have a conference the weekend before and travel the following week, but I so loved it last year. Would love to meet up if we both do it — or if your schedule allows either way.
Was glad to see your run on IG today – yay.
And totally re: holiday dress up. I’m not a Christmas person, but there’s something about holiday outfits. I’m doing a jingle bell jog in two weeks and really need to find something – thanks for the reminder.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/01/2019 at 10:42 am

Yes you should enter! Would love to meet up. I am going to enter too but have no idea how I will be by then. Yes you should dress up too!
