This past weekend I participated in the Run 10 Feed 10 Fun Run in Washington, DC. If you are not familiar with Run 10 Feed 10 it is an organization dedicated to providing meals to those in most need in the US. The concept is simple:
Run a 10k and feed 10 hungry people in your community
I first found out about the Run 10 Feed 10 organization through my involvement with Women’s Health magazine as one of their 2015 Action Heroes. One of our main goals is to increase awareness of the races in and around our own communities to help those most in need right in our own backyards.
How great is it when you can use your passion for running to help those in your own community who need it the most?
The Run 10 Feed 10 runs are held all over the country and you can check here to see if there is one near you. The official races are in New York, San Francisco and Chicago with Fun Runs in 12 other cities. The Wash DC run was “fun run” meaning it was untimed.
This races was special for me for a few reasons:
I had the opportunity to run through DC starting in Georgetown, passing The White House and running by many DC landmarks before crossing over the Roosevelt and Key Bridges. Living in the DC suburbs, I tend to take for granted all of the amazing sites and landmarks there are and rarely make the trek into town to run. In fact I was so distracted that I forgot to take pictures of the White House.
I was able to run with my fellow Action Hero & MRTT chapter leader Colleen (Live Free and Run) and one of my MRTT BRF’s on one of the most gorgeous days we’ve had so far.
I had some injuries this past winter and spring and have really kept my mileage down. This fun run was my longest run of 2015 and it felt amazing! The course was not actually at 10k but a 6.5. I’ve had a hard time resisting the urge to pile on the miles and have been really conservative the past few months. I’m thrilled that my foot didn’t bother me at all after this run. Bring on the fall running!
This was a super low key fun run for an important cause that often gets over looked. What a great feeling to know that my registration helped provide 10 meals to those in need. If you’d like to find out more info about Run 10 Feed 10 check it out here.
Have you been able to use your passion for running to help benefit others?

Yes absolutely! I never get down there to run 🙂

How fun! I thought about doing this race when it was in NYC, but I had a conflict that weekend. I’ll have to look into it for next year. Thanks for linking up 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I hear the NY race is great! Maybe next year I can get up there to do it
Jenn says
This is awesome – a great cause and a great course.
I have been involved with the I Run 4 Michael group for over a year, which is fantastic, and I do try to pick races that have an awesome charity angle: I just did Pink Up the Pace for breast cancer, The Great Candy Run for the Fetal Health Foundation and I love the Wolfson Children’s Challenge, with proceeds going to our amazing local children’s hospital. I also just enrolled little man in a running group that benefits YMCA, Police Athletic League and helping underprivileged children get their start in the sport.
Deborah Brooks says
I was in the Run 4 micheal group for a while and then my person dropped out so I have not been paired up again. Great group to run for

You really need to get into DC more often! Sounds like a great cause!
Deborah Brooks says
I know I never run in DC! It just adds an extra hour onto the run but I could and should
Coco says
This is a great cause! I wish your run weren’t the same weekend as the ATM!
Deborah Brooks says
I know! Bad planning but it seems like there are big races every weekend in October.

What a great cause. I have never heard of this run.

Run 10 feed 10 sounds like a great cause. I like to run some competitive races but I make sure to run several charity run as well. There are some great local races that draw huge crowds and the money raised stays local
Deborah Brooks says
Yes those are the best races to do right?!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I just learned about this recently! Maybe if I don’t do a fall marathon next year, I could participate!
Deborah Brooks says
That would be fun! I’d like to do the NY race next year

We do a lot of charity fun runs with the family. They are a great way for us to do something together and help others.
Deborah Brooks says
Exactly!

I have wanted to do one of the run 10 races for a while but it never fits in my schedule. Speaking of DC races, have you ever done rnr dc? I am thinking of maybe doing that in March.
Deborah Brooks says
2 times I have signed up for it and gotten injured and had to bail. People do really like it and I think it’s a really fun race to do.
Kristy @Runaway Bridal Planner says
What an awesome experience and great cause! You know, the fact that its low key kind of speaks more too it, that likely means they are more interested in their cause, than making money and shelling out all the bling and t-shirts and other stuff that eat up a lot of a race budget.
I did a charity run event once, it was to raise $ for cancer patients/research. It really put a whole new meaning into the race for me.
Deborah Brooks says
It does put a different meaning onto the run for sure.
Sharon says
Awesome to run for such a great cause! Great to hear that your leg did not bother you and ran your farthest this year! Congrats!
