Thanks for the reminder, Deborah! I don’t protect my skin in winter and I need to change that!
We have just arrived in Cape Town and I should really get some lip balm with SPF. I’m going to buy some Burt’s Bees today!
Deborah Brooks says

Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
These all look great. I usually wear a moisturizer with SPF but haven’t been wearing anything just for my lips. I should look into trying one of these.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, it’s super important
Wendy says
So many lip balms! Who knew Jack Black had a lip balm? I stick to the tried and true, ChapStik. I’ve had problems breaking out with a lot of lip balms. It’s pretty random, but there must be an ingredient that my lips don’t like!
Deborah Brooks says
Interesting I’ve not heard of that before
Kimberly Hatting says
Uber dry skin here, so I’ve always been adamant about moisturizing as well as sun protection. There’s a few brands here that I haven’t seen before, so thanks for the recs!
Deborah Brooks says

I once ran on a cloudy day and decided not to wear sunscreen. Was shocked to come home and find I had a tan line. So its sunscreen throughout the year for me too! Thanks for all these lip balm options. I like most neutrogena products so will look out for that lip balm too!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh yes it’s so important! I have already had a few things removed which is not fun at all
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I actually like Babo tinted lip balm because it’s got some SPF in it. Although I do usually start out with a mask on, so I’m generally not using it these days! Darn Pandemic. Even before, though, I’d kind of stopped using lipstick at all — this is pretty much all I use!
Deborah Brooks says
As long as you use SPF that’s good. I know the mask gets in the way of everything!
Cari says
Team BurtsBees, but I might have to look for Supergoop on name alone!
For me it’s as much about the wind protection as the sun. The skin on our lips is so thin that winter just destroys it
Deborah Brooks says
Yes winter does do a number on your skin. I use the Supergoop sunscreen on my face year round it has a tint and spf 40. They have a bunch of great products even hand cream with spf
Julie says

Deborah Brooks says
great! hope you find some that work for you
Kimberly Hatting says
Yes!! We gotta keep those lips kissable LOL I’m always in lipstick, of some sort, so I got my lips covered most of the time. Not all lipstick has SPF, though, so I layer it over the lip balms that do have SPF. Nothing wrong with a little shimmer, am I right?
Deborah Brooks says
I also like a little color. I put the spf on first then the color!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I like Burt’s Bees but will check out Neutrogena as well!
Deborah Brooks says

Well I’m always in lipstick, so I’m covered in that sense :-). I do need to pay better attention to making sure to layer the SPF under it, though.
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it is super important!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Yes, there are actually more steps in Summer! In Winter I really do feel I can get away without the sunscreen (except my face) because seriously nothing is the least bit exposed.
I like Babo Lip Balm, which does have SPF. That I have no trouble doing year round!
Deborah Brooks says
I will check that one out too!
Jenny says
Ooh… I want to try that Jack Black! I haven’t been using any sunscreen on my lips, oops. I’ll check it out.
Deborah Brooks says
They are great lip balms you definitely need spf in Florida

Like Kim, I usually wear lipstick. I need to remember to add sunscreen.

Warren Footz says
yes, year round……some of my worst have been winter runs in the sun…..
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I agree I also wear it year round so important
Michelle says
I use a moisturizer with SPF, otherwise, I’d probably never remember sunscreen on its own. I always keep lip balm handy – Burts Bees and Fresh Sugar are my go-to’s.
Jenn says
Brilliant topic! I like the Burt’s Bees. I think any of the glosses would be too sticky in our humidity.
Deborah Brooks says
It is so important to keep ours lips protected as well
Catrina says
We had our annual dermatologists appointment in February and he recommended the same brand as your first lip balm: Aquaphor. I just saw it’s made by Beiersdorf, a German company.
I bought the skin care, but not the lip balm. I will do that, though!
Deborah Brooks says
I really like that one all year around their products are great
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I feel like I rarely get to run in the sun/daylight anymore but this is a good reminder for when I do!

Debbie says
I’ve become very good about sunscreen since my Mohs surgery but I’m really bad about applying lip balm at any time of the day. I will check these out and try to get better.
Deborah Brooks says
Most lip balms don’t have SPF in them so it’s super important to make sure they do!
Kimberly Hatting says
Great reminders, and nice recommendations! As you know, I don’t leave the house without a little bit of shimmer (dry skin = dry lips), but it’s been awhile since I’ve checked out some new SPF options (for the “base” under the shimmer).
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am a big fan of color as well but always try to remember to use the spf underneath it!
Jenn says
What a great and comprehensive list! I’m terrible with lip balm (the boys always steal mine). Thanks for sharing this info. It’s so easy to forget about protecting your lips!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it is easy to forget but you are in the sun a lot so super important:)
