It would be impossible to pick just one favorite city to run in! I’ve always believed the best way to see a city is on foot and why not put those feet into running shoes and log some miles? Sharing a few snapshots of my favorite running cities.
Oh the places you will go…Favorite running cities
Chicago
Even though it was pouring down rain for most of my stay in Chicago, I loved running the Rock n Roll 5K and 10K there last summer. Of course, the race and the run were made even better because I got the chance to hang with my blogger friends.
Philadelphia
Nothing beats having the chance to run up the famous Rocky Steps. I did a solo run there last fall and this weekend I am headed up to do the Philly Half. My first official race in Philly.
Vancouver
Only having one day to see Vancouver, I opted for a City Running Tour of the city. My guide was terrific and I saw way more by foot than I ever would have seen on my own touring around. What a fun and vibrant city. Hope I have the chance to go back some day.
Alaska
When you are blessed with warm September temps and spectacular views, how can you not throw on your running shoes? One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
San Francisco
I was lucky enough to run over The Golden Gate Bridge twice in a year. Last year when our Ragnar race was cancelled, a City Running Tour took a friend and I on a spectacular running adventure through San Fran. This year, we went back for our Ragnar and again had the amazing opportunity to run over the bridge. The 2 experiences were like day and night ha ha.
Hometown runs
Living outside of Washington, DC, I tend to take for granted all of the beautiful monuments and sites we have to run by. When we do venture into the city, I am always reminded how lucky I am to live here.
My most favorite runs of all are the everyday runs with my friends on the beautiful W & OD Trail. That’s where all the magic happens.
It’s so much fun to look back on the places and races that my running shoes have taken me. How about you? What are your favorite running cities?

I’ve only ever run in Chicago but I loved running along the lake. My cross country team used to run there in the summer and it was amazing to jump in after!

I bet it was-it gets so hot there

Chicago is my absolute favorite running city – I just love everything about it!

it was so much fun to be there with you all. We may need a do over

I’d love to run in DC! Or any of the cities you mentioned. Running is the best way to discover a city. I have run across the Golden Gate Bridge a few times, once on my own and several times in the SF Marathon. It’s quite an experience. I’ve also been lucky enough to run in Paris and Florance, two of my favorite places to visit and run.

Come run in DC you are welcome to stay with me anytime! Cherry Blossom lottery opens soon 🙂

Alaska would be AWESOME! I would be so distracted by the scenery, that I wouldn’t even think that I were running, ha!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes that is a benefit indeed!

I wish I could’ve run in Alaska. It never worked out, and I’m actually kind of glad. Most of the towns we went to were crowded with tourists and I wouldn’t have had a good run at all.
Deborah Brooks says
Ah too bad! We had gorgeous weather while there and it just worked out
Annmarie says
You got to run in Alaska?! SO jelly! Definitely a place I want to cross off my bucket list!

You have definitely run in some beautiful places! When we cruised to Alaska, there wasn’t a lot of time for running (and it wasn’t as warm, although not too bad). I did get to run a bit in Victoria, which is also a lovely city.
Deborah Brooks says
WE were beyond lucky in Alaska with the weather!
Abbey Sharp says
These are all such great running cities… and also food cities. I’m all about the post workout meal 😉
Deborah Brooks says
You and me both!

San Francisco, Philadelphia and DC are the only ones on your list I’ve had a chance to run in! I’ll have to try to add the others to my list 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Cannot have too many places on your running list!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I haven’t run “in” a lot of cities so I’d probably list Chicago as my favorite city for running. We visited there enough that I was able to go on quite a few runs while exploring.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope I have the chance to run in Chicago again some day since it was raining the whole time I was there.
Farrah says
Out of those, I’ve only ever gone running in SF! I definitely wouldn’t mind exploring Vancouver or Alaska on foot though! <3!

All great cities to play and run in

So fun!
Philly and San Francisco are both great running cities. I would love to run in Alaska.
I love Savannah, and Jacksonville is an incredible city to run in as well – it’s flat and the local community is amazing.

The Chicago photo is even more fun now that I’m more into the Wrap — I can recognize and feel like I “know” at least half.
So many fun cities

It was so much fun to meet them all last summer!
