Every month I think that I will not have anything exciting to spill for the Runfessions post. Every month, I then cannot stop spilling all of my Runfessions. Ha! Today I am sharing a few of the things that are on my mind and sharing my review of the Brooks Glycerin 17’s. Thanks to Marcia for hosting.
March Runfessions and Brooks Glycerin Review
I Runfess…Unfortunately, I am still having some ankle soreness post run. Of course, it is not great timing. Injuries never are. With the Cherry Blossom 10 miler just 10 days away, I know it’s going to be a challenging run. However, I am going to take a bit of my own advice about coming back from injuries and adjust my expectations and goals. I am going to focus on the other things going on that weekend.
I Runfess…I am so excited to have Kim (Running on the Fly) and Linda (Accidental Marathoner) coming into town to stay with me for a Runcation Girls Weekend. I have lots of fun activities planned all weekend. Should be a blast. Really looking forward to seeing them both.
I Runfess…I am embarrassed to say that I have amassed quite the running shoe collection. #RunnerProblems for sure. Or, as my husband likes to say, “out of control”. Hey, we all have our vices! I donate the older pairs a few times a year but they just seem to pile up. Speaking of shoes…
Brooks Glycerin 17 shoe Review
I received a pair of Brooks Glycerin 17’s in conjunction with my role as an ambassador with BibRave. All thoughts are my own, Check out all the race reviews and find more info on BibRave here.
From the moment I slipped my feet into my new Brooks Glycerin 17’s, I felt like they were hugged by the “Ortholite sock liner”. It’s a gentle welcoming hug that cradles your foot. The cushioning is like walking on clouds! I had been running in the previous version of the Glycerin and the cushioning was the selling point. As someone who is prone to foot and ankle issues, I enjoy a softer landing.
The Brooks Glycerin 17’s are a neutral shoe available in 5 color choices. Important for me because I often like to have 2 pairs to switch between in differing colors. Designed for road running they weigh in at 9.2 ounces with a 10 mm drop. (source) These are slightly lighter than the previous model with the same drop. My steps feel smooth and supported. I know I will also enjoy the mesh breathability once the temps start to warm up. So far, these are a keeper. I plan to #RunHappy with them for many miles and smiles.
Wendy says
I runfess that I just took a giant bag full of used running shoes to Goodwill! It was almost embarrassing! Those new Brooks look sharp. Nice review.
I also runfess that I am feeling all.the.FOMO about Cherry Blossom. Have a blast for me…
Deborah Brooks says
It is kind of embarrassing with all the shoes! I am enjoying the cushioning of Glycerins so far. We will miss you next weekend for sure
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
I’m so sorry to hear you’re having pain post runs but taking precautions now and you’ll make it through the 10 miles.
Like you, I have so many running shoes. I always keep one back up pair in case of bad weather or if my current shoes are soaking wet after a run but try to donate a pair whenever I get a new one.
Deborah Brooks says
They really do pile up and it gets to a crazy point of having so many shoes!
Kim G says
Sorry that you’re still having some ankle soreness 🙁
You’re going to have such a fun weekend for Cherry Blossom, especially with Linda and Kim visiting!
So glad that you are enjoying the Glycerins!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes just trying to manage the ankle thing as best I can. So excited for them to visit next weekend
Erica @ Erica Finds says

Very excited for cherry blossom weekend just hoping my ankle holds up enough to make it through. Loving the Glycerins and their cushioning
Kimberly Hatting says
Brooks shoes are awesome!!!! I need major support & stability, though, so I have to go with the Adrenalines & Ravennas. Totally love all things Brooks (and not just shoes LOL). I am beyond excited for next weekend, too!!!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s going to be fabulous see you soon
Chaitali says
That’s great that the new shoes are working well! I switched to the Brooks Adrenalines last year and have really been liking them.
Deborah Brooks says
Happy feet are everything!!
Laurie says
There are plenty of worse problems than a massive running shoe collection! 🙂 Did I say massive? I meant ummm…substantial. Hope your ankle behaves for you at the Cherry Blossom. Have fun with your girls’ weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
I had a whole other pile I was just too embarrassed to post them all! ha ha it will be our little secret
The Accidental Marathoner says
I’m so looking forward to CB weekend! I wish I could spend more time, but my work and business travel schedule is getting crazy again. I’ve never run in Brooks but I know many people who love them!
Deborah Brooks says
Can’t wait to see you soon! We will make the most of our short time
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I would have more shoes if Newtons weren’t so hard to find grumble grumble.
I’m sure you guys will have a blast & that will make the race even more special.
I tried glycerine once but they felt clunky to me — that was quite a few models ago though.
Deborah Brooks says
I have never tried newtown’s but I know people like them as well. Yes I am excited to have the ladies visit
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You all are going to have such a fun race weekend – I’m so sorry I couldn’t make it work! Hope your ankle gets better.
Nice review – I have been eyeing the Glycerin. I’m thinking the extra cushioning could be a welcome addition once I start marathon training later this year.
Deborah Brooks says
I really do appreciate the extra cushioning! You are welcome to come visit anytime you can work it out
Coco says
LOL on the running shoes! Glad you are liking the new Brooks. Not glad to hear about that ankle. 🙁
Deborah Brooks says
yes I am just going to have to tough it out until after CB 🙁
Smitha says
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Brooks, but I’ve never run in them. Cherry Blossom will be so beautiful (minus all the pollen. lol.)
Deborah Brooks says
Oh you are telling me the pollen is awful today! We have to take the good and the bad I guess
Renée says
color me so envious that you will be with Kim and Linda soon!!! so fun!!
my husband has the same shoe issue… I just told him to make a donation SOON. Not only can he not wear all those shoes anymore, they STINK!!
(my blog is finally updated and moved – I’m over at runlaugheatpie.com now!)
Deborah Brooks says
OH good so glad that your blog is fixed! How frustrating
Marcia says
You girls are going to have so much fun! I runfess I may be a bit of a shoe horse myself. The Glycerins look great! Thanks for runfessing!

Deborah Brooks says

Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I ran in the Glycerin 14’s and loved them. The 15’s not so much. Then I was back in the 16’s and loved them, so I hope to love the 17’s too! I’m also into the Ghost…I tend to amass shoes as well as I have 3 pairs of the Ghost 11.
Deborah Brooks says
I am new to the Glycerins but so far I am really enjoying them. I know lots of people like the Ghosts as well.
Esther says
I can not wait to hear about your runners girl weekend! I bet you ladies will have SO much fun!
I hope your ankle feels better and that the Cherry Blossom is a great race!
Those shoes look and sound comfy and beautiful!
Deborah Brooks says
I am just ignoring my ankle until after the race! Smart idea huh? 🙂 Excited to see them
Sandra D Laflamme says
Sounds like you will have a fun time with your blogger friends! Love the shoe review. I haven’t run in Brooks in awhile but may have to give these a shot.
Deborah Brooks says
As you know, meeting up with your blogger friends in person is always fun!
Rach says
Thanks for the review! The Brooks Levitate was a shoe I was fitted for – it was my first time in a neutral shoe. I am thinking of trying them out during tri season!
Deborah Brooks says
I recently switched to a neutral shoe as well so far I like it. Now I just need to get rid of my ankle soreness
Liz Dexter says
They sound like good shoes! I tried some Brooks Adrenalin on when I was buying my MORE Sauconys at the weekend, but there was a bit less drop than the Sauconys. I would try them though, and definitely these, if we can get them here.
Deborah Brooks says
Ah the quest for the perfect shoe!
