April is usually one of my favorite months here in the Washington, DC area. April is supposed to be for long runs and Cherry Blossom races. April is for the spring season of Girls on The Run and outdoor lunches with friends. April is for outdoor biking, triathlon training and the start of baseball season. This April was for none of that and I suspect we are all ready to see it end. I sat down to write this Runfessions post thinking I didn’t have anything to Runfess.
Just When you think you don’t have anything to runfess
I Runfess…
I have drank more wine these past 6 weeks than I have drank in the last 6 years. Honestly, I have never really been a big drinker (unless you count college) but there is something about #QuarantineLife that makes you want to drink on a daily basis.
I Runfess…
I am doing a lot more baking because “the kids are home” and “they like muffins” and cookies apparently. At least having everyone home gives me a great excuse to bake right? Yesterday’s chocolate chip cookies.
I Runfess…
I am doing way more strength training and yoga and loving it. I am really enjoying finding new classes to try on Peloton to mix up my workouts more and challenge myself in new ways. Despite my daily wine and chocolate consumption, I am starting to see some changes in my body. I may be onto something here! When we are finally “paroled”, will I want to go back to my personal trainer or not? These are the important life decisions I am mulling over.
I Runfess, my Runfessions are not very running related this month. Thanks for reading them and thanks to Marcia for hosting! Mark your calendars for the May Ultimate Coffee Date next Friday, May 1st. I will try to bring my coffee cup instead of my wine glass.
Catrina says
Haha, I am drinking more wine, too! And prosecco.
Nice that you’re feeling the effects of strength training and yoga. Well done! Looks like you don’t need a personal trainer!
Deborah Brooks says
Cheers to that! 🙂
Maureen says
The tweet about being the designated driver is hilarious. I read a statistic about how much alcohol sales have increased 40% during March and considering how many zoom/facetime happy hours I’ve seen or done it makes sense.
I runfess that quarantine doesn’t make me want to run. We’ve also had a ton of rainy weather and since there’s no races on the schedule going out in the rain doesn’t sound very appealing.
Deborah Brooks says
We had a couple of really nice weeks but yes we have had a lot of rain this week too. Not as appealing for sure
Kimberly Hatting says
Good for you on all the workouts on your own!! It’s amazing what we can get done in the confines of our house when left to our own devices. The wine glass pic is cute 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It sure is amazing how much we can do
Marcia says
You know your fession don’t all have to be of the running kind! Haha! By the looks of the shopping carts I’m seeing at Costco, I’d say you’re not alone in your wine consumption. Apparently marijuana use is way up as well, not that I’d know anything about that first hand. The change up in workouts has definitely done you good!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha no Mary J over here either! I think I am doing really well without my trainer too. wonder what he would think?
Laurie says
Oh. Those. Cookies. If my kids were home, that would give me all the excuse I would need to bake more too. Those cookies look so yummy! I have to admit, I have been scared to get on the scale recently. As in, for the last month. Good for you for doing all the strength and yoga workouts. Today is a running rest day for me and I am getting antsy. I may have to do some yoga and/or Body Pump just to get the blood flowing!
Deborah Brooks says
Check out some of the Peloton strength or yoga classes
Jenn says
Drinking more? Check (although part of of that has to do with me being off the hardcore meds, so yay)
Baking more? Check again. Not sorry.
I have ventured a little away from strength, as I’ve turned my focus back to Couch to 5K, but I started back up again yesterday. I need to pay attention to that.
Deborah Brooks says
Since I am not loving running solo, I am doing more ST
Kim G says
Those cookies look delicious! This is the one time I’m happy that I’m not a good baker because I would no doubt be baking and eating nonstop (I have a weakness for muffins, cakes and cupcakes)!
I don’t drink during the week but I’ve caught myself drinking on Fridays and Saturdays the past few weekends. I think it’s a good stress reliever for sure!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s a good thing I don’t know what day it is 🙂
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
I’m down for a virtual happy hour. I have plenty of wine to be consumed! Haha!
I’ve also done my share of baking and am presently really trying to refrain myself from baking some blondies that I really want to try. It stinks being the only one in the house to eat the goodies. I’ve been delivering to my neighbors to prevent TOO much noshing.
As a personal trainer, your trainer will probably think it’s awesome that you’re doing so much and seeing a change on your own! If you do decide to return to him, that’s a conversation definitely worth having. Perhaps his programming for you needs an upgrade or you need to move forward more? Great job doing all that on your own!!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Jenn! I totally think you should bake those brownies too
Michelle D. says
Oh yes on the wine consumption…I’m going to blame it on all the Zoom/FaceTime cocktail hours catching up with friends.
I runfess that I’ve been enjoying my strength workouts more than my runs – I may just have to stick with the Peloton app when the 90-day trial is up!
Deborah Brooks says
I am so glad you are loving the Peloton workouts!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I was doing great the first four weeks of prison, but have gotten very loosey-goosey these last two weeks. I think it was because I was sick at first and didn’t have an appetite and it took a while for it to come back.
How great that you’re seeing such great results with your new variety of workouts. The body needs new challenges to see results. It sounds like you’re doing it right!
Deborah Brooks says
I agree that one of the positives that came out of this for me is that I am doing different types of ST workouts and loving them
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I’ve been much more consistent about getting ST in during the day and I’m starting to see some changes as well. I’ll drink to that. Cheers!
Deborah Brooks says
Well let’s definitely drink to that!
MCM Mama says
I am still doing the weight program I’ve been doing, but suddenly I’m running a lot more again. Apparently whenever I’m struggling, I turn to running. So here we are.
As far as alcohol, I’m not drinking any more often, but one of those nights I’m drinking more. One of these days my body will remember it’s not in college anymore…
Deborah Brooks says
I am enjoying cycling and weight training a lot right now. Running is not as much fun for me solo.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
It’s funny I had so many things I could have runfessed (not that I’m really running that much).
That’s wonderful that you’re seeing positive changes in your body despite the extra baking. Wish I could say the same. But I haven’t really been able to work out as much as I wanted to, Spring is just a hard time for me (even when it’s normal).
Decades ago I worked out with a personal trainer. I loved it. Then she had some health problems, we moved, voila! No trainer.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am not sure what I am going to do about that whole situation. I am enjoying doing my own thing right now
Payal says
Kids are home these days and I run a business from home. Schools are closed so they wake up late. I get to finally squeeze in a treadmill run. That’s the most I can do at the moment.
But, it was a good read. Thanks for the write up.
Coco says
Hah! I love that tweet. I pretty much always had a glass of wine or ^one^ beer every evening, and that hasn’t changed. My husband rarely drinks, but he has started to have a glass of wine now and then — I think from watching so many old movies with people having cocktails. 😉 I think I would go back to using a personal trainer — he came to your house, right? I am struggle more with the concept of going back to my studio classes …. I’m putting off thinking about it until I have to!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh no I don’t see myself going back to a studio class for a long while. Yes he comes to me. I have gotten really into doing the Peloton ST workouts and I really like them. Just not sure if I “need” him as much
Cari says
I’m also not that much of a drinker, but as I was just saying to another running friend you’d never know it during running meetups. We seem to default to wine, or at least evening meetups due to morning runs mean wine easier than coffee.
I just found my cookie sheets while looking for a place for my pyrex bowls. That could be bad.
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha on the cookies!
