Jump Rope Workout For Runners

Admittedly, it had been a while since I picked up a jump rope. I forgot what a hard workout it is! In fact, jumping rope is a great cross training exercise for runners. During this time where we are unable to make it to classes or have access to gym equipment, jump rope workouts can be a fantastic option.

I received this Crossrope back in December to test out and I just pulled it out last week. It has interchangeable handles that offer the option of 1/4 lb or 1/2 lb weights. While you can use any jump rope for this workout, using a slightly weighted rope actually feels more controllable.

If you find jump rope workouts are for you, CrossRope pairs with a fun app that has a ton of guided workouts. Workouts range from beginner to more challenging jump routines.

I was pretty surprised by how challenging just a few minutes of jump roping can be. I think I found a new workout to add to my routine. It’s perfect to do at home inside or out. Hope you Pin it or print it for later!

I need a jump rope!! Just yesterday I saw a guy doing it outside and I thought what a great workout it is. I will check right now where I can get a good one online. Maybe we have CrossRope, too. Thank you for the great workout ideas!

It’s been a very long time since I picked up a jump rope! I actually found one in my basement a few months ago but it hadn’t been touched in so long that it no longer straightened out lol. This looks like a great (but tough) workout!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/08/2020 at 8:01 am

It had been a long time for me too! I was surprised by how hard it was

I’m not quite sure where my jump rope is, so that answers your question. 🙂 Interesting that the weighted rope feels better!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/08/2020 at 8:04 am

I felt like I could control the weighted rope a little more. I was surprised as well

We do a lot of jump roping in CrossFit–their big thing is double unders. I cannot for the life of me do this. My brain just won’t let me, lol! So I keep on practicing. Jumping rope is such a good exercise!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/08/2020 at 8:04 am

It’s so hard! I used to do it all the time and have no idea why I stopped

  5. Kimberly Hatting says

    04/08/2020 at 7:08 am

Jumping rope is one exercise I never think of doing…but I should rotate that in! It would be a great move to add into a HIIT workout 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/08/2020 at 8:07 am

      It’s the original HIIT workout!

  6. Darlene S. Cardillo says

It is a lot harder than it sounds! Let me know if you give it a try

Love this workout! I just need a jump rope LOL…this would definitely tire me out once I’m done. I’ve heard good things about weighted jump ropes, I’ve gotta check it out!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/08/2020 at 8:24 am

Thanks! It had been a while for me too and it was a lot harder than I remember

I’ve jumped rope just last week with my kids. But if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t touch it. It’s a great exercise but there’s something about it that makes my head feel weird. I love this workout though! I’m recruiting my kids to do it. 😉

Oh wow! This workout sounds like a toughie. I stink at jump roping lol. Never could get the hang of double unders at crossfit lol!

    • Deborah Brooks says

I don’t do the fancy stuff just regular jumping and I am loving it again

  11. Jenn says

I love these! I tried to do a workout with jumping jacks today and it was so scary! I ended up having to modify them, and I was so sad the whole time. We always had a station of jump rope at 9Round and it was always one of my favorites.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/08/2020 at 1:02 pm

You will get back there before you know it!

  12. Laurie says

Wow! This looks like a killer workout! I do have a jump rope somewhere. I will have to look for mine, dust it off, and give this a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

I used to incorporate jumping rope in my routine until I started having soreness in my shins while running 😔. Maybe it was my shoes that lacked support. 🧐

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/08/2020 at 9:15 pm

I stopped doing it too but now I am ready to begin again

  15. Debbie says

    04/08/2020 at 3:11 pm

Jumping rope is hard! Somehow when you’re a runner you expect most cardio work to be easy. 🙂 This looks like a fun workout.
