It’s hard to believe that it’s that time again…Our monthly coffee date. I can’t believe a month has gone by already. Why does June must fly by when February last forever?! Want to have coffee with us too? Link up with the hostesses Jill, Lynda and Nikki
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I just put my 17 y.o. daughter on a plane to spend the summer in Spain. She will be studying and living with a family over there. It was so hard to let her go but I know she will have an incredible experience and be able to be a little more independent. I already miss her though!
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I had a fabulous time in Vermont last weekend with my old college room mate. It was so great to spend some quality girls time together without husbands and kids. The weather and the scenery were beautiful. I loved running and hiking there. You can read more about it here.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I did a 4th of July 5k with my 14 y.o. son yesterday. He doesn’t really love running and I know he did for me. I probably don’t have that much more time before he won’t want to be seen in public with me so I am enjoying every minute of it. I also got to meet up with some MRTT moms from some of the other chapters so that is always fun. They all like to get decked out in costume.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I am doing the Foam Fest obstacle course race next weekend. This is way out of my comfort zone. I am embarrassed to admit that some of the obstacles look kind of high and scary. And lets not even mention the getting completely dirty part! I’m sure we will have lots of stories to tell after that one!
If we were having coffee I would tell you that we will be meeting up with some friends in Aspen at the end of the month. I love going there in the summer when I think it is even more beautiful. We will be hiking, white water rafting and biking. Sometimes the altitude bothers me there so I have to try to remember to ease into the athletic activities and give myself time to adapt. That’s not really my style-I usually like to jump right in on vacation.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I’m really happy that my running is slowly coming back post injury. I was really worried that my stress fracture injury might linger longer than I anticipated. I have my first Ragnar race in September and I want to be ready. I’ve just accepted the fact that I am not running as fast as I was. I am just happy to be running pain free and to be adding the miles back in slowly.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I have a few days to myself this week without any kids or husbands. I’m not quite sure what to do with myself. I guess as they get older, this will happen more and I will get used to it. I feel like I should take on some sort of project or clean out my closets. Or maybe I should just let all the laundry pile up and walk around naked-LOL.
If we were having coffee…What would you tell me? Have you ever done an obstacle course race? Have you ever had the house all to yourself?
Heather says
That obstacle course looks amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
I don’t know-kind of freaks me out. I will let you know! Thanks for stopping by-have a great one!
Laura@ Fit Running Mama says
A month in Spain… now that sounds amazing!!!
Deborah Brooks says
I know she doesn’t know how good she has it! I’m jealous 🙂
Linda @ Fit Fed and Happy says
Oh my gosh that foam race looks so big and like it’s so much fun! It looks like something from a water park. I would totally run that!!
Also, sending your teenager on vacation alone sounds great, it gives her time to reconnect and your time to reconnect too 🙂 as a 17 year old myself, I would appreciate that.
Deborah Brooks says
It does look like a fun race-I’m looking forward to it and hope I don’t kill myself. I’m sure my daughter is having a great time!
Coco says
I would let the laundry pile up, watch whatever I want on TV, read, and go to bed ridiculously early with no one around to make fun of me. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
That sounds like a fabulous plan!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
DEFINITELY let the laundry pile up and walk around naked. YOLO. Your husband might be a bit jealous though, haha. Good luck to you with your daughter being abroad. It will be quite a transition, but you know as well as I what an incredible experience it will be for her. I love when my mom gets to have time with her college roommates–she always has the best possible time, and it is great to see her feeling like a 20 year old again!
Deborah Brooks says
I know she will have a great time-I’m a little jealous I think! My husband is in Vegas so he can’t be jealous. I’m going to put my pj’s on now-LOL
Mary Beth Jackson says
I will admit those foam obstacle races and races with mud scare me! Walking around naked while the hubs is gone is way more my speed! Enjoy your time!
Deborah Brooks says
They scare me too but that will be our secret! I’m going to put my pj’s on before dinner-LOL
Laura @FitMamaLove says
How fun that your daughter is living in Spain all summer. I always wanted to be an exchange student and regret that I never did. I hope my kids will want to, but I wonder if I’ll have a hard time letting them go. They’re so small right now, it’s hard to imagine out that far.
Deborah Brooks says
oh it is hard to let them go-everytime. I know it’s a great experience for them and hope she learns a lot. Thanks for stopping by!

If we were having coffee I would tell you that we survived 4th of July with my husband being at work until 7 and were able to have a nice evening in the pool, catch a glimpse of fireworks and everyone sleeping through the night. I love this post!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks it was fun to write! You should join in next month. I wonder what it would be like if we all had coffee for real?? Sounds like you had a great 4th in the end too. Sleeping thru the night is big!
Kimberly Westrich says
Your virtual coffee date blogs are always my favorites! Good luck next week – those obstacles look a little scary to me, too. You are brave to do it and I know you will rock it!
Deborah Brooks says
Ah thanks I think it will be fun!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
OK, so you are doing Ragnar in September and so am I. We HAVE to plan to find each other an meet up at some point over the weekend. As of right now, I’m running leg eight for my team. Wouldn’t it be great if we actually ran together at some point? I know it’s highly unlikely, but one can hope!
If we were having coffee, I’d probably talk your ear off about my son’s upcoming wedding four weeks from today! I’m so excited to finally have a daughter! 🙂
And speaking of daughters, how cool is it that yours in in Spain for the summer!
Deborah Brooks says
I know our paths have to cross at some point! I am doing leg 1 I think. We are an all MRTT team. I will follow up with you as we get closer. Weddings are so exciting! Can’t wait to read about it. Daughters can be fun-enjoy!!

I miss my daughter when she goes to her dads, and that’s only 30 mins away, I couldn’t imagine how much I would miss her when overseas. I know it will happen one day.
I’ve done 2 tough mudders, (got my 3rd in December), I missed out on my spartan race due to getting sick, but I do plan on doing a spartan race eventually too.
Bummer about the stress fracture, but at least you are taking it easy.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I don’t think this is anywhere as intense as a tough mudder-you rock! I do miss my daughter but I know she is having a blast. Thanks for stopping by for coffe
Christine says
What an amazing opportunity for your daughter to spend the summer in Spain. My daughter is only 4 months old, but the thought of her leaving makes me already sad 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I do miss her but I know she is having a great time and is learning a lot. Enjoy your little girl! Nice having coffee with you today
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
That foam race would be a no go for me! That slide looks scary! I’m also very clumsy, and I can just picture myself wiping out in the foam and hurting myself. I tend to stay away from novelty races for this reason! But I look forward to hearing your take on it!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh that slide looks scary to me too! I may just kill myself. You will have to read the post next week to find out!! thanks for having coffee today
Michelle @ Blogs Like a Girl says
That course looks like so much fun! You’re going to rock it!
Deborah Brooks says
I am excited to do it and a little nervous!! Thanks for stopping by for coffee today

I plan to! Thanks

Girls weekends are so important! I’m glad you had such a nice time in Vermont. It’s such a beautiful state. Also very glad to hear your running is slowly coming back! I think the most important thing to remember post-injury is that any run is better than no run, even if it’s slower or less mileage than what we want. Your health comes first!
Deborah Brooks says
It was a great weekend! And your right sometimes we have to give up some goals to stay healthy
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Oh my gosh, I can’t wait to hear about the foam fest obstacle course! That sounds so fun! And wishing your daughter all the best in Spain – she’s going to love it! If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that the long weekend wasn’t long enough and that I wish we still had summer vacation like we did when we were kids.
Deborah Brooks says
I’m excited to do Foam Fest too!
